Even if you use Bitcoin through Tor, the way transactions are handled by the network makes anonymity difficult to achieve. Do not expect your transactions to be anonymous unless you really know what you're doing.

If I understand correctly you generate new BTC address and you want to receive a certain amount of Bitcoins to that address? You want send to some Bitcoin to that address or someone else should be sent to that address?

If someone else send you Bitcoin then that person should enter your address and amount to be sent, you do not need to do anything about it.

Facing a strange problem after update from 0.4.1 to 0.5.1.

Before the update my total balance was confirmed and available. Now after the update, around 2/3 of my balance is unconfirmed. I have generated only two addresses with the HD wallet and according to blockchain.info all transactions with these addresses are confirmed. The last tx was created weeks ago, so this is really strange.

Does anyone face the same problem?

edit 1: Additionally information; the wallet is fully synchronized.
edit 2: Resolved! After I figured out that the problem is caused by the transactions states which could not be retrieved, I synced the wallet starting from block 0 again. Now all balance is confirmed again.

how is working multibit? i didn't use it in a long time

I am not having a good experience with Multibit HD 0.4.1. Every time I try to run it my antivirus quarantines it even if I add an exception for the .exe. I quit trying and just use Electrum or Core instead. No problems with either one of them. No plans to change my security set up just to please one contrary bitcoin wallet when there are other good choices.

Its the same with me about the antivirus. so i am just using the 0.3 release which still works perfectly fine by me. i really dont want to download gbs of blockchain data. any other wallet which can be used?

New Electrum 2.8.0 is very good. Dynamic fees, RBF and CPFP.

Hi everyone, i need your help.

I use multibit hd by a year, never have problems till today.
As usual I open it, type my password but it says it is wrong (and it isnt).
However I try to restore the wallet through the seed, it is checked corretly, then it give me some backups to restore, i chose one but then it dont create wallet and sync. I try with 0.5.1, 0.4.1, 0.3.0.

Any suggestion?

It's definitely weird, It shouldn't tell you that the password is wrong unless It's actually is and having the seed not working makes things even weirder. I suggest trying to repair the wallet after typing the seed since you said It's only not sync with the network otherwise, you may want to open an issue on the GitHub repository.

This same thing happened to a friend of mine a few weeks ago.
This wallet corruption seems to be a MultiBit HD thing.
As already suggested by OmegaStarScream you can try to repair your wallet or you can to try to load an older backup.
Once succeeded to open the wallet you should be able to see your balance and transfer the coins elsewhere.

if it still does not work and, as it seems, you have the seed words then you have at least two ways to recover your coins.

1) Install the breadwallet app on an Android 6.x+ or an iPhone phone (I also tried Mycelium but, despite the claims, it did not work for me).

-Start the app.

-Choose "recover wallet".

-Insert your MultiBit HD seed words.

-Let the phone sync the blockchain, it may take some time.

Once synced you should be able to see your balance and move your coins to another cold/offline wallet (I am using Electrum right now).

2) Download and use the Mnemonic Code Converter tool ( https://github.com/iancoleman/bip39 ) on an OFFLINE computer to recover your MultiBit HD keys.

taken from http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/40507/how-can-you-extract-private-keys-from-multibit-hd

-In the field "BIP39 Mnemonic" fill in your 12 wallet generation words

-No password

-Coin: Bitcoin

-Under Derivation Path, select the BIP32 tab

-Derivation path (copy paste this): m/0'/0

Your addresses and private keys are now displayed at the end of the page.

You can now swipe the private keys into a different cold/offline wallet.

Sorry for my english.

Hi

I can't log in to my wallet, after typing password, wallet synchronize successfully, reaches 10 peers and loads infinitely. I can only close it and restore password, as you can see ''zakończ'' (unlock?) option that unlocks wallet is greyed out. Anyone has idea what is this about?

http://imgur.com/a/O4lvt

ed: and everytime I type password, I hear this coins falling sound effect, I don't remember this happening earlier. Earlier wallet worked correctly, problems started after I sent 2 bitcoins and closed the wallet.

ed2: I restored wallet after typing 12 words and it seems (IT IS JUST MY ASSUMPTION) 2 btc I sent earlier has been returned to my wallet, then I closed it as I still could not unlock it, opened again and after typing password I've heard again this coins falling sound effect (which is I think announcement of fee payment being send, as this message pops up after coins sound effect: Payment of mB xxx has been sent) and my wallet is empty again. I suppose for some reason when I close the wallet, transaction is canceled and restarted after I log in (but still can't unlock the wallet).

ed3: after trying and trying the unlock option has been finally ''lighten up'', but top bar that shows wallet balance is blacked out and wallet is still synchronizing (not sure if I am supposed to be able to unlock it before it synchronize). I swear to change wallet I use to store my coins, multibit hd is a pile of garbage. Last time I had to wait fucking week to receive coins I send from it, I wonder how long it will take now and I cant even log out cause I do not know if it won't restart sending coins as I sent them like 2 hours ago and now it shows that sending started 20 minutes ago.

ed:4 okay, wallet synchronized and it seems to look good now but I won't close it again before transaction is complete just in case.

ed5: solved

I have the problem that every time I start Multibit Classic, the blockchain is completely resynchronized, so it takes up to an hour until I can use the client. Any idea what this could be?
I run Multibit with the same wallet on two machines. On every machine this is the case.

I was always wondering about this, is Multibit HD actually an SPV wallet? If it's the case then won't that make it somehow centralized because I don't see people running servers (so It must be the developers themselves). If it's the same way as Electrum, they should somehow be able to see the addresses each wallet control.

Do you close your wallets containing addresses before you close multibit itself? Each time you start multibit, then open a wallet containing an address, it has to download the most recent headers from the Bitcoin network. If you leave your wallets containing addresses open when you close multibit itself it shouldn't need to resync when you start it again.

Are you using an older version than 0.5.19? Each new version includes the most recent blockchain headers. Multibit uses those headers to sync up to a certain date, then has to download the remaining headers from the Bitcoin network. If you use an old version of classic that download can be quite time consuming.

Also, if you generate lots of addresses in your classic wallet multibit has to download the most recent headers from the Bitcoin network for each address separately. The more addresses you generate, the longer classic takes to sync.

You can download the latest 0.5.19 version of classic here. I found using the latest version solves most syncing problems.

Multibit HD is based off of Mike Hearn's bitcoinj in SPV mode so it does not need a complete local copy of the entire blockchain but does talk to bitcoin nodes, while Electrum talks to the Electrum server network.

A multibit wallet connects to normal Bitcoin core nodes, and requests details of address balances from them using something called Bloom filters. Unfortunately the Bloom filters implemented in multibit and any other Bitcoinj based wallet are extremely bad for your privacy. According to this quoted blog post Mike Hearn says fixing this problem won't be easy.

The tl:dr is that an attacker who connects to your multibit wallet can find out all the addresses it contains.

https://jonasnick.github.io/blog/2015/02/12/privacy-in-bitcoinj/

Quote
tl;dr If you are using a wallet that is built upon BitcoinJ, such as Android Wallet, Multibit and Hive Wallet, you have almost zero wire privacy. An attacker who manages to connect to your wallet is easily able to figure out all addresses you control. This is not very likely to get fixed in the near future.

I just now realized I have some bitcoin in a really old multi bit classic wallet
that i cannot adjust fee on (version 0.5.18) ahhhh!!
Can someone tell me in laymans terms how to export the keys/transfer bitcoin to my multi bit HD wallet (VERSION 0.4.10)
(I know its not latest) . I don't want to send thru network and have it most likly get stuck  because of fee too low.
Already been down that road.
I can click on "export private keys" in the classic wallet but where to export to? The roaming multi bit HD folder?
The old classic wallet roaming folder has the wallet data file and key file which i assume are the files that are exported.
I just don't see those type of files in the multi bit hd roaming folder. So if i simply export will multi bit HD recognize them?
thanx in advance for any help.

The "export private keys" option in Classic just dumps a text file will all the private keys for your addresses. MultiBit HD doesn't seem to provide any facilities to import private keys... you can only restore "seeds". I guess importing individual private keys kind of defeats the entire purpose of "HD".

So, you would need to use a wallet that supports importing of private keys and has proper fee adjustment mechanisms (like Electrum, turn on Dynamic Fees, RBF etc), import the key(s) into that wallet, and then send the bitcoins to MultiBit HD.

However, with the large number of people currently experiencing issues with MultiBit HD coughing up "Password did not unlock the wallet" errors, I would recommend that you stay away from MultiBit HD altogether and use something else.

ok i installed electrum and just figured out how to import the priv keys. Wont bother with sending to multi bit hd. I'll stick with electrum. Looks like a great wallet. Thanx

Are you getting the "Password did not unlock the wallet" errors? If so, your money may not be lost... (if you have Wallet Seed for HD, or password and multibit classic wallet or key file)...

Your password has not been changed. It is just some newer transactions that are breaking MultiBit Classic and MultiBit HD and result in that error message. I have already helped at least three people recover their coins... My python scripts for extracting keys from multibit classic and HD can be found here: https://github.com/HardCorePawn/multibit_recovery

Once you have your keys, you can import them into another wallet and "rescue" your coins  Cool

Hi, I just switched from multibit classic to hd. And I have a question. A friend sent me some bitcoins (I used the addess from the request window). Blockchain.info says that the payment went through (though still unconfirmed). But multibit hd still shows 0 as my balance.  And at payments tab the status is "you requested" . According to multibit hd's help the status is supposed to change to "unconfirmed" and it's supposed to show this money (as unconfirmed and not available for use but still).

Verify network tells me that wallet is connected and synchronised. Repair wallet doesn't make a difference.
And, yes, I checked the address is correct.
Should I be worried?
