Dan Kaminsky at 2013 Bitcoin Conference (May 18, 2013)- Security Panel
Speaking briefly about ASIC centralization and multiple proof-of-work functions.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=si-2niFDgtI&feature=youtu.be&t=41m

The Unbeknownst Foreshadowing of Myriadcoin?

Dan: "One dude spins up one batch of ASICs and gets double digit percentages of the network. That's ONE GUY. That's not OK."
...
Panel Member 1: "With an ASIC, best case you're going to see a massive industrialization of mining to the hands of a few small players. It's not going to be an ASIC in every garage."
Dan: "If that happens, Bitcoin fails. ... I had a meeting with some people and it became clear that multiple proof-of-work functions operating as a you know, "basket of currencies" kind of thing is probably the path that is going to happen.... I don't know where this is going to go yet. All I know is that bitcoin has a life or death dependency on mining not centralization. ... Look, this aspect of the system has got to change. I'm not sure what it's going to change into, but either Bitcoin changes or something else happens to leverage the hundreds of millions of machine, Because right now if you have a GPU or a CPU you shouldn't be mining."
Panel Member 1: "That's not true. GPU mining, dollar for dollar, pays in the same band it's paid for the past three years."
Dan: "Only because the ASIC guys aren't fully online."

Is Scrypt the best way to mine this coin with GPU?

Skein, Qubit, and Groestl are also very good. You can see the estimated coins per scrypt mh and calculate it from how many GPUs you are running here: http://myriad.theblockexplorer.com/

Thanks a lot! But, my question really is, I don't know what my 2.5 MH Scrypt Rig gets in MH when doing Groest for example. I don't know if my question is clear, for example on Scrypt-N I get 1.1 MH from the same 2.5 MH Scrypt RIG.

Here is the info in case anyone else wants to see it as well:

GPU & Scrypt ASIC:
Coins/Scrypt MH: 1018.0371999305 = 0.00524 BTC/Scrypt mh/day (cgminer)

GPU Only:
Coins/Scrypt MH: 634.70997664325 = 0.00326 BTC/Groest mh/day
Coins/Scrypt MH: 908.35054659959 = 0.00466 BTC/Skein mh/day
Coins/Scrypt MH: 1062.9755392534 = 0.00545 BTC/Qubit mh/day (sgminer)

SHA 256 ASIC:
Coins/Ghash (SHA): 13.964714013937 = 0.072 BTC/Terra Hash SHA256/ Day (cgminer)

The ratio won't be linear, if you have say a 6950, it will be faster at groestl than a similar 500kh/s scrypt card. (like an r9 270x)

It would be nice to have a discussion about Myriad and merged mining. We had one on IRC yesterday and so far concluded that Myriad would be technologically superior at being a merged mining parent and should be utilized as such down the road.

Can the sha256 and scrypt algos be merge mined with doge, digitalcoin or others?

It would be interesting to come to such agreement with other devs.

Vertcoin will have a merge mined coin soon, called monocle.

I still think a scrypt-chacha n factor 14 algo would be nice for equalizing hashrate on older and newer cards and cpus, sort of a people's algo.

Well we hardforked a week ago. I havent seen this warning before. Perhaps sync fully and see how it goes? Your wallet version looks to be correct.

there was a problem with the distribution I posted earlier of my auto-switcher

should fix not switching algorithms automatically
source code unaffected, had to mess around with the .lnk files to make relative ones

The discussion we had was based on the fact that myriad can become a "parent"and open the doors to mergeminable only coins on scrypt such as pesetacoin, huntercoin, etc , and parent to namecoin, devcoin, fusioncoin etc on sha256 ( that are made to be children and cannot be mined directly), dogecoin cannot become a child unless it is forked into being mergeminable (in theory, i don`t know if it can be done in practice to fork a coin that is already a parent into a child). But with myriad having 5 algos , I don`t know if from a coding point of view it can open it`s doors to become a parent for the already mergeminable only coins on scrypt and sha256(I`m guessing it can because the base for sha256 myr is bitcoin and I`m guessing the base for scrypt myr is litecoin). Myr also has the advantage of other 3 algos that can become the first parents ever in existence, there aren`t any mergeminable only coins using skein, qubit or groetsl algos yet(from my knowledge). In theory myriad can become a parent for 5 different algos, each having their own children, boosting the nethash of myriad on all of the algos making it more secure and helping with the overall cryptocurrency power consumption (you are actually mining myriad with the same hash but getting free childcoins). This idea came to me from the fact that Myriad can "absorb'' any algo by changing one of the 5 it already has into a brand new one, but what if it can also become a parent on all 5 algos, accepting 5 different children on each of it`s algos, thus creating the possibility of 3 brand new never before seen children for skein, qubit, groetsl algos. In the end myriad would become a "root'' , with it`s algo`s being the trunk of the tree and the children being the branches, or like an octopus, myriad being the head and all the children being the tentacles, with a crazy spike in allaround nethash. (this is just in theory , i don`t know if it can ever be done..I was just mindfucked by the idea)

OK, here's a thought (please don't flame, it's just an idea):

What if Myriad simplified and become the de facto standard for the crypto community at large?

Not that I have anything against any algo, quite the opposite, by I think Myriad should evolve:

I would like Myriad to become the first coin to have the Triple Crypto Bottom Line (TM) : SHA, Scrypt and X11

So here it is, my pledge to the devs and myriad community: add X11 to the algos, please.

Either as a new one or as a replacement of groestl and  skein, since they're on X11 anyway.
Qubit should remain, as it's almost as minable with CPUs has it is with GPUs.
The fifth algo could be reserved for future use, when X11 also falls into asic land.

This way, Myriad could become the most stable coin to mine: any ASIC, any GPU, any CPU, with whatever algo provides the best energy efficiency.

Again, just a though  Cool

From my understanding X11 is actually groetsl+quark with some modifications... from what I remember foodies saying in some earlier posts when X11 argument came into replacing one of the 3 algos... so a part  of X11 already exists in myriad from the start.. (If I`m wrong please somebody share some light on this)

You're right, but I did above mentioned that too Smiley

There is some overlap:

X11 includes blake, bmw, groestl, jh, keccak, skein, luffa, cubehash, shavite, simd, echo
qubit includes luffa, cubehash, shavite, simd, echo

So, in essence, X11 would maintain the green and orange algos, that exist in myriad today and add the blue algos, that would be new to myriad.

The idea is never lower the complexity and diversity of algos used, because that's what provides for diversity in mining options Smiley
To that end, qubit could remain, as its combination is still simply minable with modern CPUs in a decent hashrate, even though all the algos are in X11 anyway

My point is that myriad would become simpler to the crypto community to understand and thus widely explored and mined.

The wide adoption X11 is getting will make less and less profitable to mine coins that use only one or several of the algos, and to some extend there's the risk of most myriad becoming mined only through SHA and Scrypt, with ASICS on both cases centralizing the hash power

A move to X11 now would simplify things and allow for further development without loosing any algo and keep the number of alternatives manageable (4/5 algos)

It's fine as it is for now...the extra merge mineable skein, qubit and groestl coins idea is great and easily implemented like the vtc folk are doing with monocle.

Anyone mining qubit on gpu???

I get hw no matter what at the p2pool in the op.

Using two 280x cards and 8gb of ram, under win 8 64.

EDIT: nonce pool works fine it seems. 0 HW

Question to the switcher script dude:

Why do I get this? I have api-listen api-allow 127.0.0.1 and api-port 4028 in my settings...

oh I try to quit any current running miners when I start up the script (to make sure you're not already mining since I don't really know), so you get an error that nothing is running
if everything works you can ignore it for now, I'll probably stop it from complaining later

Just a nice little FYI for you guys with Androids:

There is a beautiful Mintpal price checker for MYR, so if you are obsessed with the price just download this app Bitcoin Checker by Mobnetic: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobnetic.coinguardian

Go select the Mintpal exchange when you add a new coin in the app then find MYR on the list. If the list does not have MYR you need to click the little exclamation mark with a circle around it next to the market pair option to fetch the new currencies.
