Developer Note March 30, 2014Source: http://educoin.cc/developer-note-march-30-2014-2/ Where we are todayForum / Community- Our main forum is up and running. During the first two weeks, the forum settings made it difficult for newbies to post. This has been fixed. - The main developer, Satoshi Edumoto, has started his ground game. Last week he joined several bitcoin meetup groups in the US, pseudonymously of course. If you are in the NYC, Boston, or San Francisco area you may soon cross paths with him! Be sure to increase EduCoin awareness at the meetups near you! Exchanges- EduCoin is currently listed on one US based exchange, CryptoAltex. We tested out the engine on 3/17 and it works well. While this does not count as our endorsement of the exchange, we can definitely say this exchange offers the only opportunity to buy EDU at 1 satoshi. Market volatility will soon takeover and the 1 satoshi price point will be history. - EduCoin is marching up the voting polls at Mintpal, a high volume exchange based in UK. Mintpal has a growing alt-coin following and with its sleek interface and customer support, may one day overtake Cryptsy. - EduCoin is currently 4th in the voting poll at Allcoin, a relatively unknown exchange but it appears to have a strong Chinese customer base. Media coverage- The EduCoin dev team has connected with a diverse number of journalists who cover cryptocurrency on twitter. The dev team will not be pitching stories to any of them directly (as this is frowned upon) but will post press releases and commentary periodically. Connect your twitter network with either the EduCoin twitter here or the main developer here. - China tech news giant Hexun, one of the largest independent online financial websites in China, recently published an article detailing EduCoin and its potential to contribute to China’s massive higher education needs by 2025. - A cryptocurrency blog called Cryptoarticles has posted a write-up about EduCoin. Thank you jdebunt and mshanti for the coverage. Educational Crowdfunding Proof of ConceptBased on the crowdfunding discussion at bitcointalk, we have an exciting development for the community. We informed crowdfunding company Pave about EduCoin and the potential to help organizations like them integrate bitcoin/educoin for donations. They declined. One of our devs thought of the idea to create a proof of concept. We are proud to announce a teaser to http://www.educoin.tips (in beta only) What we are working on. Please help!- The educoin subreddit needs moderators and a design update. To become a mod, the requirement is that you have posted at least 5 times with more than two replies in each post. When you meet the requirement, contact the current mods for a tryout. As for the design, the dev team really likes r/Murraycoin’s subreddit format, but any clean header will do. - This week’s focus is to continue voting at Mintpal (because volume) and Allcoin (because China). We are 2~3 weeks away from getting listed but this could always accelerate! - Anyone interested in making EduCoin (EDU) graphics? Here are the primary bitcoin templates: https://bitcointalk.org/?topic=1756.0 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1631.0 Great proggess so far!

About that, can we change to X11+DGW before the coin starts being raped by Multipools and huge farms?

@kache Thank you for your comment. To clarify our earlier point about X11, we are not considering that or any other fork at this time. Our position is that we started with KGW as a hedge against multipools, and we don't see the need to react to every new feature that pops up in the crypto-ecosystem. In our analysis, forking is not something that is taken lightly. Many new coins seem to be all over the road with forking to what looks good, at the expense of adoption and community. We didn't create EduCoin just so we could be every miner's wet dream. We created EduCoin to move education forward. Also, Litecoin's main developer (Charles Lee aka "Coblee") has made his views known in the link below. As a Scrypt-based coin we agree with his point of view. At a much later time, when EduCoin becomes established and brings aboard higher education institutions to the foundation, developers will consider what technical innovations EduCoin can bring to the education world. On the horizon are all kinds of developments which may come to market such as colored coins, ethereum, public contracts. We could one day see EduCoin's blockchain being used to exchange research data between universities, as a means of retrieving electronically notarized credentials and grades, and as a way to do other educational computing tasks. In regards to X11 we’ve looked at the main discussion at the litecoin developers forum here: https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=18166.0We are leaning toward Coblee’s viewpoint at the moment. Switching to X11 would more appealing if there was solid consensus. And if/when that becomes the case, then litecoin should be the first mover to change. The EduCoin developer’s intent was to deploy proven tech over trendy tech, and we know that this has caused some individuals to label EduCoin as just another clone. There is truth to that, but it’s okay as long as EduCoin is a just another clone that works well for education. We are interested in moving cryptocurrency forward eventually, but right now we are more focused on moving education forward. We can't do that if we create/fork a new class of crypto that only Vitalik Buterin can understand.

No, that litecoin developer explained PERFECTLY why you have to fork right now: because once you become bigger and more established it's gonna be far more difficult and far more problematic.

"That litecoin developer" you are referring to is Charles Lee, the creator of Litecoin. His views are not as you stated, instead, what he said in nearly 1500 words was a thoughtful argument for why litecoin does not need X11. Litecoin Devs are not changing anything. Neither are we. For more information about "that litecoin developer," also known as Coblee on bitcointalk, read a profile of him here: http://www.wired.com/2013/08/litecoin/Charles Lee was a software engineer at Google, spending his days hacking networking code for the search giant’s new-age operating system, ChromeOS. But in his spare time, he rewrote Bitcoin, the world’s most popular digital currency. --EduCoin Dev Team

Hi,
Most exchanges are disabling KGW coins until they are patched to remove the vulnerability.
Do we have an ETA on when EDU will be patched? The coin is currently disabled on CryptoALTeX.

Thanks for your support, Iceker. The message you want to say is: Concentrate on voting. Please vote at these exchanges: https://www.mintpal.com/voting (because it has trading volume, reliability) https://www.allcoin.com/vote (because it is an entry point for China volume)

Thanks for the update. We are examining the security patch and will post the results. 1. We are aware of the security issue experienced by AUR, first discussed here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=504103.0 2. We are following the discussion about the security patch here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=552895.0-Edumoto

We are following the discussion about the security patch here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=552895.0-Edumoto Developer Note April 4, 2014- After a brief PM exchange with CryptoAltex, EDU has been re-activated on their exchange - A closer read of the discussion here shows the community is split about the KGW fix implementation vs. vulnerability - Since EduCoin is a new coin, our bigger issue is the low hashrate (leaving us vulnerable to a traditional 51% attack). This is something we all are aware of--and this can only be resolved with more people joining the network. Follow up to KGW vulnerability In all likelihood we will implement the fix if that's what is required, but we will do this after monitoring the patch discussion a little bit further for any final consensus on the matter. Go read for yourself and share your opinion with the community (respectfully, please) if you feel one way or the other. Increasing ExposureA few buys have occurred at CryptoAltex, which has helped move EDU as high as 66th position on Coinmarketcap. This has allowed EduCoin brief but solid exposure to many traders out there who never heard about EDU. Our google analytics tracking indicates more new visitors as we speak, and we welcome them (you) to the EduCoin community. Please join us at Reddit! -Edumoto

Hm, it's sad to see it has already that many dumps @ 1 satoshi at the existing exchage.
I will keep voting, but I'm afraid that will cause the same effect on these exchanges (a massive dump // no buy orders).
