'Basic Income' is a damned good idea, in a world where more & more 'jobs' are being done by digital automation.

Paulo Freire writes in Pedagogy of the Oppressed, "Freedom is acquired by conquest, not by gift. It must be pursued constantly and responsibly. Freedom is not an ideal located outside of man; nor is it an idea which becomes myth. It is rather the indispensable condition for the quest for human completion".

Quote
Overall, the case study in India suggests that the fears surrounding basic income in creating disincentives have been overblown. It appears the security of  knowing you will always have enough money to meet your basic  needs  encouraged economic agents to undertake more economic risk than they might have otherwise. Others may argue that this is not necessarily a good thing, because people may grow far more reckless with their finances. We would say providing basic income, just takes care of basic needs and no more than this won’t be a problem. People will always strive to go beyond subsistence living  and therefore likely to still be relative risk averse, but  this issue similar to basic income as a whole needs to be debated by the wider public  and governments sooner rather than later.

SOURCE

Could anyone not be sceptical and cynical of governmental authority when the whole economic system of the seemingly entire world is in such bad shape? Especially when these same organisations sanctioned with creating the money supply by government can just conjure money out of thin air. Yet even with unlimited funding they still manage to bankrupt themselves as well as everybody else, it is hardly a sign of authority or confidence building.

All governmental checks and balances, monitoring and regulation, where thrown out of the window and remain that way. With complete freedom given to a banking system that has failed the many, is on going and hardly reassuring or confidence enhancing in its present form.

Trusting these same people to do what is right for the many looks like insanity in the current state of play, based on the evidence we have before us.

Came across this today, on twatter:-

Cryptocurrency Webfont Icon Pack

... and we're not in it Sad

At the bottom it says

Quote
Didn't find the one you need? Ask for it – @AllienWorks #cryptocoins

So I've already twatted a request.

Perhaps it would help if all the Knights, and as many of you as can spare 2 mins to do so, could twat as well?

*******

Getting back to 'basic income',

I said that I thought it was inherently a good idea

I DID NOT say that the current financial/bureaucratic system was the best way to deliver it!

- Are you aware, for example, that in the UK something in the order of 70% of the 'social security' budget is used in the administration of the funds, NOT in direct benefits to the people who need it?

We need to unlearn the lies that we've all been indoctrinated with since birth, tear down the old, corrupt systems & build anew - based on knowledge, truth & collective will.

London:

In May 2009, a local charity decided to give free money — £3000 with no strings attached — to each of the 13 long-term rough sleepers. No, none of the ‘lucky’ men ‘splurged’ their money on alcohol, drugs or gambling. A year later, 11 out of 13 moved off the streets and had a roof above their heads. They began making plans for the future, including taking courses, reconnecting with family, developing independent living skills (such as cooking and paying bills), and addressing physical and mental health and substance abuse problems. Total spending in the first year averaged £794 per person, compared with the £3,000 allowed.

america needs basic income badly just so people will stop abusing welfare. hard to blame someone for doing 0 hours of work and collecting $3600 per month per kid instead.

if anyone is looking to pick up some zeit before it blows up there is 80M for less than 2sats in the cryptopia ltc market

D'ya think the civil service make it easy - or even possible - to see how much they're ripping us off?

So, no. There are no nice, easy links to this kind of thing.

I can't remember where I saw that figure, all I know is that my 'gut instinct' tells me that it came from a source I had no reason to doubt.

I had a reply to my twat about coin icons, dude says Zeitcoin will be included in the next release of the icon pack Grin

Yes you are right, getting real figures is difficult, that's why I am asking but thanks anyway, I don't doubt your figures, it makes sense that there is a significant cost to administration and lets be fair any training provided to the unemployed is almost always done by outside agencies at a cost, rarely of any real use to them, just piecemeal, tokenism for PR purposes, just another distraction from the real scroungers.

Thanks again.

I've been both on the inside, and the outside, of such 'training courses' - and they are NEVER for the benefit of the 'client'.

In the Changing of the FEE News @ Poloniex Exchange
Starts March 20th, 2016
https://poloniex.com/fees/

Quote
Every 24 hours, we will calculate the last 30 days of trading volume on your account and dynamically adjust your fees according to the following schedule:
Maker    Taker    Trade Volume (trailing 30 day avg)
0.15%    0.25%    < 600 BTC
0.14%    0.24%    = 600 BTC
0.12%    0.22%    = 1,200 BTC
0.10%    0.20%    = 2,400 BTC
0.08%    0.16%    = 6,000 BTC
0.05%    0.14%    = 12,000 BTC
0.02%    0.12%    = 18,000 BTC
0.00%    0.10%    = 24,000 BTC

OK, which one of you guys is spending 24,000 btc a month?   Wink

Back to Sanity, I don't know why but it seems like everytime these exchanges get into trouble behind the scenes, they start changing their fee structure.
Could just be a coincidence , but a friendly reminder on Poloniex .

Never Leave more coins sitting on an exchange than what you are willing to Lose!!!

Cryptsy changed their Fee structure to favor traders and in less than 6 months they were done , and now Poloniex is doing something similar.   Tongue
Starting the 6 month timer.
http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/generic?iso=20160920T0001&p0=412&msg=Poloniex+Exchange+Still+Open+or+Forever+Closed!!!&font=cursive

 Cool

FYI:
If Poloniex does follow the path of craptsy, that only leaves Delistrex in the US, and they already delisted so many coins, no one really cares about them anymore.

Why would we give everyone free money?

A new study from The Bank of America Merrill Lynch, reports that within just 20 years up to 35% of UK jobs and 47% of those in the US are at risk of being replaced by machines. This is incompatible with our current relationship to work. It would lead to mass unemployment and destitution. As Callum Chace, author of Surviving AI and Pandora’s Brain says:

There will be people who own the Artificial Intelligence, and therefore own everything else, which means homo sapiens will be split into a handful of ‘gods’, and then the rest of us.

But if we had an unconditional income for citizens, robots will advance as emancipators rather than leaving workers destitute. They could liberate us from menial jobs, rather than strip workers of their means to survive. UBI is a forward thinking policy that would enable us to fulfill our technological potential.

I only leave coins I consider to be pure profit. I made some good profits from Cryptsy and withdrew my original deposit. If I'm not getting a good enough turnover with profits, I usually take some off the table as well. That's how I ended up with more than 22m Zeit stuck in cryptsy, and still made out like a bandit.

It's just a shame that the Zeitcoin wallet still hasn't been released for withdrawal. =/
