That auction says that the population of that card is 1 of 1, that's definitely not true.  Sad

It takes a few days after the official grade is given for the population report to update. That may be part of the problem.

MTG cards that are rare have been exploding for a while which is what has happened with the #83 cards we all love.  One large reason is a lot of wealthy poker players from around the world started out playing MTG before poker.  Now said poker players have money to find and buy cards they coveted back in the day.  That has happened to this market.  The early crypto adopters have the funds to run up cards as well.  Bottom line... it looks like upward and onward from here for #83.

That's an interesting perspective. (And good news for us #83 collector-investors.) Thanks for sharing, anonymousminer.

You can see the dip in price of MTG cards after "Black Friday" April 15,2011.  That was the day the Federal Government banned online poker in the US and started freezing 10s of millions of customer money along with 10s of millions in company assets.  The lull on the cards lasts for 12-18 months..... then they really start to take off.  See for yourself.  Then we cross our fingers for similar good fortunes on our little #83.

They mistakenly put population 1.  It is two. Both 10s

I think that $1200 is a conservative number for that card too, it's Christmas time and everyone is spending their money elsewhere, if it weren't around the Holidays, we would have seen much bigger numbers for that card. DEFINITELY a card for the serious collector.  Smiley

Man when the next Brooklyn (/25), Red X (/5), or Glow (/?) shows up, the sky's the limit.  i remember thinking $100 for a red x mini was too much.  Now look.

I'm trying to promote the card where i can. i even changed my avatar on telegram to be the back of a no number card.  The prices have been bid up with only a few bidders (Just 4 for the 83 NNO).  Once word gets out and there are dozens, it goes to the moon!

Agreed on several points.

I, too, remember seeing a red mini and passing because the $100 mark was too high, in my opinion. Now I daydream of those days.

Additionally, I remember reading on the baseball card forum how someone over there was speculating only a few weeks ago (November) that these cards will continue to climb ridiculously high (even more than now), because there are WAY more crypto-collectors than there are Brooklyn/red/silver/black mini cards. Plus, the number of crypto-collectors is growing daily, while the number of cards is not. They will only continue to grow.

At least, that's what the baseball card guys think, and I tend to agree.

Regards,
Chris

So...I just searched the population report on PSA, specifically regarding the Ginter X black mini cards, and the results are interesting.

According to the current pop report, a total of 16 non-cryptocurrency black mini cards have been graded. Of those 16 black mini cards, 11 received the high grade of PSA10. That's a whopping 68.75% of the total population of all non-#83 black mini cards! By that average, at least 6 (or 6.1875, to be accurate) of the registered 9 cryptocurrency cards in the pop report should have received the same high grade of PSA10. Strangely, there is not a single PSA10 cryptocurrency card. WTF?!?

Why are all the other black mini cards receiving the highest grades, but not the cryptocurrency card?

I recall reading in a baseball forum that some collectors suggest that the grading companies know which cards are the most desired/expensive, and they grade those cards a lot stricter than any other cards in an effort to keep the 10-grade population low (which helps to control/regulate the collectibles market).

I don't know if that theory is true, but I do find it quite disturbing that of those 9 graded cryptocurrency cards, an average of 6 should have received a high grade of PSA10, but not a single card received that grade. Again...WTF?!?

Confused,
Me

I was looking over ebay PSA graded black minis and I saw a few 10's for regular players, so I think you are correct. The only other option, ie. Topps diddling with the stock etc etc ... just doesn't seem like it would be right...   Huh

confused as well... I do have one I would send in but I can see one corner has a very small bump on it so I may just keep it ungraded...

Yeah, I went straight to the source with the most current numbers, and the numbers don't lie. Approximately 69% of the 9 graded cryptocurrency black mini cards should be PSA10. It's a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside a baseball card. Huh

It may still get a PSA8 or PSA9. And if no cryptocurrency cards receive a PSA10, then the PSA9 is the best of the best! Grade that sweet 83! Grin

The total count now on the ginter x black mini that have been graded stands at 10. no PSA 10's yet.  Looks like the blades were a little dull when cutting the #83 mini's, oh well.
