I have a couple of gridseed's running on a raspberrypi with cgminer 3.7.2 and I seeing

"pool 1 JSON stratum auth failed: (null)"

every few minutes. What is this?

your username / password is wrong.... try again

Well if shares were not being accepted and I didn't see any Kh on the pool then I would say that is the problem but share are being accepted. So it must be something else.

Try a different pool.

Thanks all for your help. Got it working now. Was a misconfig in the cgminer.conf file

I take this isn't like the old GPU limit thing and it's an unkown to a lot of people?

If you don't have any automation software you shouldn't run 100 of these.

It's just idiotic to think that you should run 30+ mhash or 100+ devices on one system.

Spread the control out to 10-64 per control system and develop some automation tools or use the ones I post all over for linux.

I do have software automation setup for alerts, restart cgminer, etc.. so no problem there.

The 127 usb device limit is my problem as stated here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USB_hub

@wolfey2014, you stated if I knew what I was looking for this should be easy to find?

Can you give me some hints? Smiley

I dislike you.

Haha well thank you kind sir Smiley

So maybe using a motherboard with multiple USB controllers will work? Just thinking out loud. Any ideas there?

Though I fundamentally disagree with the idea of trying to run hundreds of miners from a single controller, you can always use one of these:  http://www.ioiusb.com/Host-Adapter/U2X4-PCIE1X01.htm (i'm not a big fan of single points of failure so please at least get a cheap server case with dual power supplies and RAID-1.  And don't forget UPSs!)

Its a 4x1 USB 2.0 card with 4 independent ports that supports 127 devices each, so that'll get you to 500 miners at least.  How the OS will address them is up to you (I have no idea if there are any limitations).

Best of luck,

-EMoomjean

Hello Emoomjean. You seem pretty experienced / educated on USB gear.
Can you point me in the direction of some decent technical information on USB systems and how they work, exactly?
I'd like to read up on their nomenclature - in full. I need to learn this stuff,,,,fast! Wink
I am not fully comprehending how 4 -127 device capable ports are going to help overcome the problem with the semi-unstable performance of all the hubs and ports downstream from there. Again, not arguing, just want to understand, exactly how that works - in detail.
Also, does anyone make an enclosed version of that unit for Win 7 PC's with USB 2.0 High Speed ports.
Thanks

Nice ! I'd like to see more.

But be careful : you need to isolate the red 12v wire you cut from the fan. If for any reason the wire touches the heat sink, your unit will make fireworks.

Cool! it looks like it may take a while to get one of these in so for now i'll probably use mini pc's. Anyone recommend a cheap mini PC on amazon for this?

Raspberry Pi is the cheapest way to go. Get a bunch of 7 port single level hubs, and you can put 98 on one Raspberry Pi. Whether it can support that many, I have no idea.

That's kinda neat. Looks like you could have routed the power/usb in-between the 80/20 rails. I imagine the picture is upside down and that the miners are resting on top. Did you make that yourself?

Wonder if you would have kept the fans on all of them if it would have made a big turbine with a lot of air getting pushed all the way through....hhhmmm, makes me want to rethink a case design.

Nice! I like the layout. Nearly exactly the same as my stacks are going to be when I have enough miners.
One small point though, if you want those single end fans to do some good, they need to be ducted so the air from the fan is pumped through the fins of all the miners in that row.
Otherwise the fan is simply cooling the pod it's bolted to and maybe helping the one next to it a bit but the rest are simply convecting their heat in to the surrounding atmosphere.

Probably best to just have all of them 'fan-less' and be done with it.
Fans look cool but I'm afraid they are wasting 90%+ of their energy in their current role.

I have my current 6 units all being cooled via a small amount of air flow from the pod in the middle of them which has a fan on it pointing downward with the bottom (as with all of them) held about 3/8" or so off the bottom with the fan screws being used as posts screwed in upside down in the fan mounting bracket. The air flowing out and around the middle spreads its air around the surrounding pods keeping them all just at or below ambient - within 1 or 2 degrees F of each other Wink

The more I think about it, the more I dislike the idea of ducting them together like that which will add complexity and ugly the rig up. Also there is dust accumulation over time to worry about if air is forced through the fins. That stuff can get messy and cumbersome.

Running in S-Crypt only they don't really need fans anyway. None of them!
So save that .25Amp per fan and put it to use making you a bit more money! Wink

Again, nice looking rig! Very practical layout and easy to manage!

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2X-bj_TJfWQZk81Y3h1Ukk1WHc/edit?usp=sharing

can anyone tell me what I could use to connect 8 Gridseeds to 1 connection of the powersupply
it's the questionmark on the diagram

does it matter that the load is not spread completely even? 9 gridseeds / 9 gridseeds / 8 gridseeds ?

Also: if any stupidity is found in that diagram, please let me know  Undecided

thanks

We still haven't had anyone test these to see if they burn up or not: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004EAHJAG/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AXGABATFHDOZ

EDIT: THESE WILL BURN FIRE BAD IN DUAL MODE.

I concur! Do NOT use that splitter or the pigtails (wires) coming off of it singly either!
They are designed to carry 500mA or less! A miner will pull up to 600mA in SCRYPT mode, usually less but it can peak that high. Do the math. It won't work out well for you if you don't head our warnings!
Try these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0058RLD9C/ref=pe_385040_30332190_TE_M3T1_ST1_dp_1 with the appropriate 'paired' wire i.e. - 14ga Stranded Copper THHN - minimum just in case you ever do decide to run SHA. RED And BLACK are the idea colors. RED = + / BLACK = - Clearly marked on the adaptor!
Practically anyone can make this work! And Yes, they will work perfectly!
16 gauge stranded copper will work though if you are dead sure you will never run in SHA mode.
Good luck!

Will do.  Actually I'll make it username agnostic.

Did it all under user Miner, and it seemed to install fine. When I run cpuminer, I get the error message:
"./minerd: error while loading shared libraries: libjansson.so.4: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory"

Anyone with more then 1 miner under windows have them dual mining with cpuminer and cgminer. Just making sure what I have working here is right. I have cgmine for the bitcoin and 2 instances of cpuminer different com ports for the scrypt. Thanks

So 1 GS at 12v 10w scrypt is .85A 1 GS at 12v 90w is 7.5A This cord is rated up to 300v (per manufacturer) and up to 16 Amp per (http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm)

I think I'll grab a few hundred before you peeps buy them up.

Wonder If they are even saving any space?

http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/KC-300334.pdf

Looks like 10mm ish savings at least Smiley
