I think you have to set up your own pool, or set up your own LTC node, then connect to that. Or use a stratum proxy thingie.
But LTC is too big to attempt solo mining with only 20 gridseeds. Maybe if you had 200, but not even. You're better of joining P2Pool or solo mining a smaller alt-coin.
thanks but I like to try new things

I have only ever pool mined, so not sure who to connect to to get blocks to work on. I ordered 40 of the GS units, so I might like to give solo mining a try as well.

Ok, time for my next dumb question... Used Wolfie2014's recomendations and got GS miner running at 700 and generating mid-300 KH/s. Not bad, so I figure ill hook-up the second unit. The first is on COM3, the second shows up on COM4. so, I modified the cpuminer bat file to use "-G COM3 -G COM4". After running about 1/2 hour, I noticed that the pool wasn't seeing any change in hash rate. I would have expected to see almost 700 KH/s from 2x GS miners. Also, the green/red lights blink regardless of cpuminer running or not. Cpuminer is showing green nonces, and so-far no rejected shares from the pool, so accepted (over the last 1/2 hour) is 100%. Am I being to simplistic in my assumption that all I had to do was add another "-G" flag to the minerd call? Is there some other trick involved to get the second miner working properly? Im going to continue debugging by trying to mine on each GS seperately and see if that works or if one is simply not working as expected. Any other suggestions?

cpuminer can only handle one COM at a time... Make a second batch file and you will launch both. For 5 units you have to run 5 cpuminers... 10 units you run 10 cpuminers... all with their individual COM port defined.

Hi I have my own pool server and I have mined coins that way as I am the only one in the pool I get all the coins for each block found it works very well if any one want to test a pool on my server let me know

I ordered 40 of the GS units, so I might like to give solo mining a try as well. it appears to me - at least from a 15 minute research that you need to setup your own server - such as stratum which is open source - many of the smaller pools are using some canned application since they all look the same. here's a nice alternative - which I may do tonight on one of my servers. read a few posts down: https://litecointalk.org/index.php?topic=1558.0it's about setting up a private p2pool server which can be downloaded here. I may try it since I have over a 50% change of finding a block in 30 days and that would pay better than what I'm getting in a pool - hell - we wouldn't even be here if we were not risk takers. download it here: http://p2pool.in/

has anyone tried cgminer in the beginning of this thread?
I can't get it to work
root@raspberrypi:/home/miner/usb-miner/software/cgminer# ./cgminer -F 850 -G /dev/ttyACM10 -o stratum+tcp://us.ltcrabbit.com:3334 -u xxxx.10 -p 123 [2014-03-18 16:09:36] ./cgminer: -F: unrecognized option
Try this instead: ./cgminer --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=850 --usb 1:1 -o stratum+tcp://us.ltcrabbit.com:3334 -u xxxx.10 -p 123 Instead of 1:1 you would use actual bus:device numbers, you can find those by running cgminer -n --usb-list. If you don't specify --usb, it will use all available gridseed miners. still can;t get cgminer to work compile gies fine using instruction in post #1 of this thread. has anyone else tried cgminer yet? in any event - when attempting to run cgminer with all usb devices I get a segmentation fault. and when trying it with a usb device defined it just sits there - although It does write some info to the syslog - rasberry pi root@raspberrypi:/home/miner/usb-miner/software/cgminer# ./cgminer --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=850 -o stratum+tcp://us.ltcrabbit.com:3334 -u xxx.17 -p 123 it just sits there. I also run netstat -an and it has not opened any connections either. from syslog Mar 19 12:25:41 raspberrypi cgminer: Started cgminer 3.8.5 Mar 19 12:25:41 raspberrypi kernel: [39129.199616] usb 1-1.2.1: reset full-speed USB device number 5 using dwc_otg Mar 19 12:25:42 raspberrypi cgminer: GridSeed options: 'baud=115200,freq=850' Mar 19 12:25:42 raspberrypi cgminer: System reseting Mar 19 12:25:42 raspberrypi cgminer: Set GC3355 core frequency to 850Mhz Mar 19 12:25:43 raspberrypi cgminer: Device found, firmware version 0x13011401, driver version v3.8.5.20140210.02 Mar 19 12:25:43 raspberrypi cgminer[13717]: GridSeed: send thread running, GridSeed_Send/0 Mar 19 12:25:43 raspberrypi cgminer[13717]: GridSeed: recv thread running, GridSeed_Recv/0 and I know my device names are valid: .USB dev 18: Bus 1 Device 6 ID: 0483:5740 Manufacturer: 'STMicroelectronics' Product: 'STM32 Virtual COM Port ' .USB dev 19: Bus 1 Device 5 ID: 0483:5740 Manufacturer: 'STMicroelectronics' Product: 'STM32 Virtual COM Port ' [2014-03-19 12:22:46] 20 known USB devices

what distribution are you guys using to compile cgminer?
the one that listed in the gridseek setup thread compiles fine but does not run on my pi rasberry - it just hangs
I need one that compiles and runs!
thanks

Original Windows Directions: Sorry for screwing up the flow. I redid the OP for this. How to run miners on com ports 10+ in windows: Credit https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=482352.msg5401135#msg5401135use \\.\COMXX instead of COMXX on the command line for com ports above 10 IE: --gc3355=\\.\COM17 There are also directions on http://cryptomining-blog.com/1165-download-cpuminer-for-gridseed-5-chip-gc3355-asics-with-reduced-power-usage/ in two articles. If anyone has any corrections or wants new screenshots for the windows directions let me know. 11 -Download the modified CPUminer from here or here. Extract the archive anywhere you want. 12 -Check the com port. To connect to your miner, you need to know what comport is assigned to your miner. You can do this by pressing the windows key + the R key. So 'Windows + R'. This should give you a small window called 'run'. (Sorry, I am Dutch, so screenshots are in Dutch) Enter 'compmgmt.msc' in the window, and hit the enter key. This should open a new window, called 'computermanagement'. Click 'Devicemanager' Now click the small arrow in front of 'Ports (COM & LPT)' Now you can see that in my case it says 'STMicroelectronics Virtual COM Port (COM7)'. This means that my miner is now assigned to COM port 7. Some people have experienced problems with miners which had COM port numbers above 10, if you have a number above 10, go to step 13, otherwise go to step 14. 13 -Changing the COM port number. This step is only necessary if your automatically assigned COM port number is 10 or higher!. Like this: In the devicemanger, right click on the 'STMicroelectronics Virtual COM port (COMXX)', which has a COM port number above 10. Select 'properties'. This will open a new window, go to the 'portsettings' tab in that window. Now, click 'advanced'. This will open another window, in which you can select which COM port to use. Select one that is not in use, and click 'ok' after you are finished. Also click 'ok' in the properties window. Make sure the COM port now has the number you selected: If all is correct, you can close the computermanagement window. 14 -Now you know your COM port number. You can setup your miner now! Download this bat file, and save it in the folder where you extracted the miner in step 11. Make sure the bat file is in the same folder as the 'minerd.exe' program. 15 -Edit the bat file. Right click on the bat file, and select 'edit'. This should open this window: Change the 'XXX' of the COM port to the number you found in step 12. Make sure to change the '--url=' to the url of the pool you want to mine at. Also change the '--userpass=' to the workername and password of your pool (format is workername:password). If you don't change this, you will mine for my account, which I don't mind either of course Save the file. 16 -Mine away! Just double click the bat file. It should start a small window, and your miner will start mining. If you have more than one miner, just make a copy of the bat file, change the COM port number, and start that one as well. You need one cpuminer window per miner. As soon as you start seeing 'yay!!!' you know that your miner is working properly. This version of cpuminer is not able to show the hashrate, so your hashrate will always show '0.00 khash/s', even though it is mining.

Where did you pick up the -G call in cpuminer. Is there a command list I don't know about? Please? I mean, using it twice in the same flag twice in the same line. Really? It seems that if so, it would allow one to run at least 2 miners as a 'team' in one window instead of 2 separate instances in two separate windows. Wolfey2014
