PM me your hub models and your controller type: WiiBox, TPLINK, Linux, Windows, Pi etc.  I'll start adding them.

BTW the top heatsink seems unneeded in scrypt mode.  My 5 gridseed chips hit about 97F max. (ONLY A 5 MINUTE TEST)

So I made a decorative gridseed for my desk Smiley   Than is just for looks and really isn't needed.

I used an IR probe to measure top and bottom temps and noticed the bottom is always way hotter while hashing.  So I pulled of the top heatsink and watched the chip temps.  Looks like the circuitry between the chips which have no contact with the TIM get a lot hotter than the chip tops.  This means you could easily build a stack by removing the bottom heatsink from each gridseed and attaching it to the top of another after removing the fan and fan bracket.

Looks like I can fit over 30 in a 3U.  Using 200-500 on a micro-ATX cube case to control multiple cases (Which I recall yelling at someone for earlier Smiley

I accept the risk breaking my own toys and so do you....

Okay. But, not a good idea if you are going to overclock them! Not good at all. They may run unnecessarily warm.
My chippies got up to 122F while overclocked at 1000MHz.

2 of my pods have been OC'd at 1000MHz for over 48 hours now and are rock steady! Zero errors!
Fans are re-mounted and are running off of 5V USB. They only pull an extra 78mA or so.
Easily compensated for by most power supplies as that would add up to 178-180mA draw per port.

Remember folks, you burn it, you eat it.

DOH! I didn't see the cool little heat sinks on each chip before I opened my big 'fingers' Wink
Very Nice! That will probably work fine, even overclocked. But why the fan then?
Still, I hate to throw away perfectly good parts. I mean, even for space saving. I just can't make myself throw away more money than I already have being that I am not using 100% of the miner's capability by not running SHA algo'.
Anyway......

I'm getting out of context here, but are there some other people worried about the fact of the huge Asic machines coming out summer/winter ? + most coins switching to scrypt N adaptive ? saw like 3 or 4 switch already today?
I'm interested in pre order of some fibonacci Recursion but if all coins will switch we will have some nice gridseed and other hardware we can put in the bin  Grin

IMO so don't flame me bum but it is cyclical and you can bet that day will come, but it is going to be a while. Just like before the arms race will come first then the next iteration of GPU coins will follow. The tricks are 1.) Don't be the last dude in on any particular cycle or your going to be left holding the bag ala the poor bastards that were dropping 1900 for a three GPU power gulping rig a month ago. They are going to have a hell of a time just getting ROI if BTC prices stay the way they are. 2.) Don't be a fanboy of anything other than making money. The next wave of ASIC miners are more of a threat to this gen than anything else, save the bottom following out of BTC. My thought is if this gen can ROI itself before the next it can lay there and make what ever money it can. The developers are liable to get pissed after the next gen starts to hit so for now I am looking at setting up my GPU rig with 750TI or other Haswell type and cuda miner about that same time.

Of course things change but that is what my Ouija Board says today.

What?

What, what?  I just don't  believe everything is all unicorns and rainbows even with these little beauties. I am still on board and about to buy some more but... There was a time when little guys could mine for Bitcoin and make a little money. The hardware "arms race" happened, the little guys were marginalized, Scrypt coins came into being, little guys got back in, some of them "late to the dance" on Scrypt coins had brain tumors buying GPUs for stupid money very late. ASIC is now in the Scrypt game so unless something in the market changes the cycle will start over. IMO on hardware you better git in early or find a way to buy the tech dirt cheap or wait for the next gen. I am not chicken little here and i am not saying the sky is falling but neither am I Pollyanna about this generation of ASIC miners being the "cats ass" in perpetuity.

You should see the looks i get strolling through the casino in the hotel bathrobe, slippers, martini and pretending to be talking on the bag phone slung over my shoulder. This gen of miners will be like that bag phone in a relatively short time so it they need to be turning a profit right away with nice long stable runs. I totally need to do the mods to shorten up that ROI.

Hi guys,
Anyone managed to run Gridseed 5 Chip with full hashrate for LTC (300kh/s) with reduced BTC rates?

    According to specs for GC3355:

 160 BTC Units
 4 LTC Units
 BTC mode up to 2.25G/s BTCHashRate, with 2.4W/GHash
 LTC mode up to 60K/s LTC Hash Rate
 Due-Coin mode up to 1.75G/s BTCHash Rate + 60K/s LTC HashRate, or up to 2.25G/s BTC Hash Rate + 38K LTC HashRate

A couple of things missing: dash in --failover-only, and space after PASSWORD

cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://uswest.wafflepool.com:3333 -u Username -p x -o stratum+tcp://eu.wemineltc.com:3333 -u USERNAME -p PASSWORD --failover-only --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=750,chips=5 --hotplug 0

But really you should use a config file, easier to manage than everything on a single line.

Right.
I spotted that right off and I don't even use cgminer Wink

Hi guys, I bought the Gridseeds from Atari02 group and the controller is the Wiibox, but I got a problem:

The Wiibox said: confine/define.php is not existes.

What can I do? I was testing the SSH using root and 123456 ( and try another's without results) and doesn't log in.

Regards!

Hi,
as you know Wolfey has done fantastic job on modding his GDs.

He is using 0.125W 38k resistor.
I can buy this resistor locally http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/metal-film-06w-39k-ohm-resistor-m39k

This one is 0.6W 39k and I'm not sure if difference in W makes any difference . 0.125W and 0.6W.

Can I use 0.6W instead of 0.125W ?

Thank you very much for your help Smiley

Thanks for your kind words.
As I stated in my PM's back to you, .6W 39K should be fine.
The main purpose of the wattage spec of 1/8W resistor is that the physical size is not too big to fit and the wires on the resistor are not too big to fit over and solder to the solder points on the pcb.
De-solder the 36K and replace it with the 38/39K resistor. You can solder it across the two solder points put there for the resistor / capacitor network. They left the capacitor out during manufacturing so there are two extra points one can use to solder the resistor wire across them.

Simply solder the new resistor in place like I did in the attached pics.

Here are the pics of my handy work. Please excuse the left over resin (black stuff) around the resistor connections. I didn't have any pcb cleaner on hand at the time, but the resin won't hurt a thing as it is completely non-conductive. Just looks a little bit messy  Cheesy
All mods  - Resistor - Jumpers - Pencil trace - 5V Fan connections

5V fan connections -
Red wire (+) intentionally connected to the tiny ferrite bead (FB25) as it's easier to solder to than any other point.
Fan start-up current is 140mA for 1.2sec then levels out to 78mA constant.
Tin your wire (if it isn't already) before you solder to the fuse terminal so as to keep from accidentally de-soldering the chip from the pcb. This way, it only takes a second to solder the wire to the terminal.

If this helps you, please feel free to show your appreciation by sending some coin. Wink
Not mandatory but, very appreciated! Wink
BTC = 13y5XhVuKGrRipbvYdcrvYDsx69rBPUbwR
LTC = LR6U7jB2Fb4pJYogbergqQHZgBRQ5UAqBG

Make these modifications at your own risk!

Peace!
Wolfey2014

Pea Ess, if you want me to make these modifications for you, PM me and we'll discuss it.
I am certainly qualified to do it, without bricking your pod of course! Wink

I created gridseed aur packages for cgminer and cpuminer, if you run arch linux.
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/?K=gridseed
They work on the raspberry pi (just tested).

Just modified the existing aur packages to use the gridseed git versions.
Contact me for feedback or any issues.

Dear forum members

I am thinking about buying 500 gridseed from gridseed.com in china. I heard from them that you have to arrange the transport yourself. I wouldn't know how to do this, has anyone has experience with this?

Thanks

From what I heard, they only ship to mainland china. You would have to be able to receieve them and have them shippped from there or perhaps Hong Kong.
Customs, taxes and import fees would apply.
If you know someone in China who could forward for you that would probably be best as you can work the details out with them.
Other than that, perhaps flying there and bringing the units back as baggage...

It's normally cheaper depending where you live and what kind of import taxes you pay, to just buy from sellers who get 10,000+ units shipped.  I also really like the bulk packaging of 20 unit boxes which is way less hassle than the individually boxed units.

They are the outfit with their own warehouse and sorting facility in between GridSeed China and the rest of the world.
They are opening the doors to bulk purchases, sometime this week, from what they've told me.
I'd deal with them. They are a one stop, no fuss, no muss supplier that provides free shipping to the USA in a week or less!
No Terriffs, no shipping or logistical headaches!
