boys, never mind about sha-3, it's highly asic-mineable, because the sha-3 standard was meant to be used in low power, single purpose chips. Just check with NIST at http://csrc.nist.gov/groups/ST/hash/sha-3/sha-3_standardization.html

When a sha-3 coin makes it into main street, you'll have asics for it in no time and down the megaTH/s  race we go Sad

Scrypt is about to get tested with greedseed and the likes, so we'll see it within one month or so - AFAIK , each chip will do has much hashrate has a R9 280x, but for MUCH less power (1/3 or less)

Eventually, all the coins that want to survive with small-sized, GPU-based miner power, will probably have to hardfork into scrypt-N somewhere along the way

Maybe SPA could be one of them. what you say, DEVs? Wink

From what I read you are pretty far off in your estimate on the power of gridseed,

http://www.dailydoge.org/2014/02/28/scrypt-gridseed-miner-spotted/

 $500 for one that does 300~ kh/s  , $99 for  70 KH/s and SHA-256 coins at a hash rate of 2.25 GH/s

As I said, "it's about to get tested" Smiley we'll see, I still have serious doubts on the scrypt part.

They advertise it way much powerful:

GC3355 is high performance and low power SHA256 processor designed by GRIDCHIP. With
advanced technology and highly integrated design, GC3355 target to provide multiple function and low
cost solution in SHA256 application fields.

Gridseed GC3355. Each unit has 5 chips.
 Mining Capability(Official Number):
 BTC Mode: 10G,
 LTC Mode: 300K
 Power Consumption:
Dual Mode or BTC Mode: Approximate 100W/Unit,
 LTC Mode: 20-25W/Unit

but we'll have to wait for real world usage reports, not Friends & Fans and others that are riding on selling them Wink

What I find very compelling is the power usage, since price is very close to a brand new R9 280x. I won't mind selling the GPU and have a greedseed for just dropping 2/3 of the power bill Cheesy

Another factor are the new versions of cgminer and other miners for these puppies - don't forget that cgminer (most use this one) has dropped GPUs a while back, so we're missing all the eventual code optimizations and better performance of these newer refreshed versions on GPU (when was the last time you saw an updated CL file for cgminer? Wink )

We'll see, maybe it won't change the game like it deed for sha.

btw, it's not a typo, I do call them greedseed Grin , 'cause that's what they are, LOL

The Mac wallet was compiled by instacash, feel free to send him a tip: ShR8PwsPm6NkmsqrsrVMk21bJ1EMfZNT61

Cool. Nice to see devs engaged and involved. It gives a nice confidence boost to the project.

Lots of Linux fans that appreciate such wallet.
