I would go for the bitcoin because I think the bitcoin has a better future if you compare it with other currency's. The fact is only that the bitcoin has to still prove itself and the gold already did years ago of course.
I am a bit skeptical about how well is future of bitcoin but all signs and facts suggest that bitcoin is defining new era in investment and financial markets. Without any distraction, you can simply trust the bitcoin which is just defining the new era. Gold has got a long years of existence, so in future bitcoin will compete with gold. Yes there are full possibilities that bitcoin can compete gold in future in the best possible way as bitcoin is growing slowly and it will become more powerful in future. Gold is like for rich only and only few have them unlike bitcoin all kinds of people can use it,with the availability of bitcoin to people it can really compete with gold.

Yeah and we can buy bitcoin even in small parts as we don't need to buy whole bitcoin, so even if you have small capital you an afford to invest into it.

So you trade gold and silver for goods and services.
Gold did exist long before fiat and was used for trade previously.
do you appear to trade gold directly nowadays, for what you want to purchase? i'm not using gold, so i'm asking, if this is possible, or it must always be exchanged for fiat prior to this? The statement above was in response to your posts below - i mean in a distant future when travelling around the universe will be easy, gold will be dumped more easily because it will not be rare anymore
i was not talking about the first attempt at travelling on another solar to find more gold, that actually will increase the gold value at first
I think the development of practical quantum computers is more likely than zipping around the universe mining gold. If that happens it could render encryption useless making bitcoin worthless. it could render everything worthless, everything is secured by sha256, not that i think quantum computer wil pose a threat to sha256 Pretty sure my gold is not secured with sha256 well but the value is given in fiat, and fiat will be worthless So if fiat, bitcoin etc. became worthless then people would revert back to a trade/barter system and precious metals would factor strongly in this system.

Looking at the history of both I would choose to invest in gold as I don't want to experiment with my money and my investments, I will play safe and invest into gold.

Gold as long run investment and bitcoins as shorter one. We all know that BTC will rise in short time period ,but we dont know for sure what will happen few years ahead, but gold will only rise. Even better invest is silver, and some other precious metals..

Yes its always better to invest in multiple products rather then investing in a single one, so that if one product fails you have opportunity to recover from the other.

Indeed, investing in both gold and bitcoins is pretty good, because you can make profit on them both. One you can invest in a long term and the other ( bitcoin is for investing in a short term because of the halving.

Bitcoin will last longer than just the block halving. Bitcoin will be a perfect long term investment as there is plenty of room for growth.

Gold is in a real odd spot right now and I find it hard to gauge where it will be in say 10 years. The whole aspect of gold going up when times get rough in the market seem to have disconnected. India is sitting on a ton of gold and is slowly encouraging people to give it up.
Bitcoin could be replaced by a better idea, technology is changing rapidly and it makes me feel sorry for old people learning something to find out its out of date tomorrow. Read somewhere we take in more info in one day then our ancestors took in a life time. So bitcoin could go the way of the dodo as well.
Think if I wanted something with a twist of the arm I would go with gold because I do not think it can fluctuate as much as bitcoin could in a bad time.

Gold started at 1040 USD and today it's around 1240 Bitcon started at 400 dollar this year and today it's around 407
For me gold is not only better but also a more stable asset.

i will always choose both not only one to put all my money in. i choose bitcoin because it has the potential of growing big and becoming the worlds currency and giving me a good profit with the big price rise
but also i choose gold because it is much more stable than bitcoin and i can save money that way and be sure that it will keep its value.

Gold will increase its value the longer time you will hold it but it would be difficult to sell it, however bitcoin is much better for me since it is virtual and easy to earn with it especially with this forum and signature campaigns.

Gold is good but bitcoin is very innovative product to invest in and it will overtake gold in future for sure, the only thing is that we should give some time to bitcoin to grow.

1) How much time do you think it will take bitcoin to overtake gold? 2) What will be the driving force to increase bitcoin's market cap which is currently 0.086% of gold's to >100% 3) Where is the $7,358,928,259,382 going to come from that is required to be invested in bitcoin to exceed Gold's market cap?
