Just in Axar Patel and 10 ground staff test COVID positive at wankhade stadium. BCCI says it is too late to shift now, they will be now setting up more tougher rules. I now doubt whether IPL will go on smoothly.
BCCI should shift all matches from Maharashtra to othe location. The situation is pretty bad in the state.
Thats really a bad news to hear and also cricbuzz reported that someone from CSK also tested positive but the name was not mentioned by the CEO of CSK franchise but he assures that no one was in contact and also the person was indifferent floor from other players. I hope the tournament will go on but BCCI should consider shifting the matches from Wankhede stadium because it is in the state more than 60% of total cases reported in India. I am also shocked with this news because after PSL incident I was expecting some tough rules by BCCI, but they are lacking of management because they need some stick policy if they want to be good IPL season here in India otherwise it's going to be hurt very badly in many ways.

I don't understand why BCCI is hell bent to host so many fixtures in the Mumbai? Hyderabad and Himachal seems pretty okay but no game for them, although Hyderabad did some drama over their revenue reporting which cost them hosting rights but in recent time they look better bet in comparison to Mumbai.
At least they are bent towards Mumbai. I was expecting the whole IPL to be played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Jokes Apart I think they want to minimize travel as much as possible. Give maximum matches to a stadium at least the maximum it can host considering it's pitch and all. Moreover venues this time isn't going to be a big concern for BCCI as there are no revenues involved for them. Earlier adding more stadiums meant opening up your Revenues to a new city altogether. So they are keeping it as simple as possible that's all. Extra stadiums is just extra cost with no substantial revenue.

For pride reasons of Ambani family I guess? Even today they mentioned that they are confident of conducting matches in Mumbai : IPL 2021: BCCI confident of retaining IPL matches in Mumbai despite surge in coronavirus casesAnd they were pointing their bio bubble is secure and no one with virus can enter into it but what if something happens in the middle of the tournament the entire schedule maybe collapsed.

If they do not understand now the BCCI will understand soon that it is going to be an impossible to task right now to conduct matches in Mumbai, the entire Mumbai is shut after 8 PM and how they are going to conduct the day night match and there are reports that they might shut everything till they control the situation. The moment i heard about another lock down i packed everything and flew to another state and now in quarantine for over a week and undergone a test and the results are negative but taking precaution as i am sitting in quarantine for a month.

Yes.. it is surprising. Right now the state of Maharashtra (where Mumbai is located) is the worst in terms of COVID 19 situation across India. Also, Mumbai is not the sole metro city in India. There are Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Also, just one of the franchises are based in that city (Mumbai Indians). I just hope that this obsession with Mumbai doesn't result in the cancellation of the tournament mid-way (as happened with PSL).

The IPL was held even in the most difficult moment of the coronavirus the previous season, when there was no vaccine. The infection rate is now somewhat lower than in previous years and everyone is quite health conscious. Hopefully all the matches of IPL will be held on time.

It is too late now to cancel the tournament or reschedule the location. BCCI now need to implement more strict rules if they want IPL to run smoothly. If any more such incidents happen then it will tarnish the reputation of BCCI and also IPL. The government of Maharashtra has been struggling from day one when the pandemic started. BCCI should have considered alternate location for this season of IPL.

There is only a remote possibility of the IPL getting cancelled in case the protocols are strictly followed. But in case, if someone makes a breach in the biosecure bubbles and if those inside it gets infected, then things can get complicated. And this is one of the issues in conducting such a big tournament in multiple cities, especially in the crowded Indian metros. The BCCI needs to make sure that players and non-playing staff strictly adheres to the safety protocols. A single mistake may put the entire tournament in jeopardy.

The big difference here was the fact that UAE had far lower cases when compared to India back in 2020 and they followed strict bio-bubble security measures which ultimately helped the tournament progress smoothly. BCCI should have shifted the matches to Hyderabad from Mumbai immediately due to the difference in cases. Absolute fools.

Mumbai has a VIP status when it comes to cricket and they are willing to risk a few deaths to not change the location. That's how things really are in the Indian sub-continent. I just hope it doesnt go through the same treatment as PSL and get cancelled. Hopefully they have strict rules and bubbles so that the possibility of infection among players remain very low and IPL doesnt turn into a joke like the neighboring countries league turned out to be.

In case of PSL, it was Wahab Riaz, Darren Sammy and one of the franchise owners who breached the biosecure bubble. PCB was afraid to take any action, due to the larger-than-life stature of those who were involved. The same can happen with the IPL as well. I don't think that the BCCI will be having the courage to take solid action, in case some of the franchise owners like N Srinivasan or the star players such as Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma breach the bio-secure bubble.

In a 90 day tournament there is a high chance of breach as players will get frustrated with time but the only thing that will keep them motivated to not breach the bio bubble is the money I guess.

In the case with the IPL they need to be extra cautious while conducting the tournament if not this years World cup will be in jeopardy.

Moreover, with Jay Shah in the management team, I don't think there would have been lot of questions regarding who would be heard. Even Ambani factors aren't quite a reason because he won't earn a lot from non-Mumbai Indian matches. So I think we need to settle for the fact without any perfect answer. But yes Pandemic is a great concern now for the whole team. When last IPL was played things were quite settled even in India and despite that the folks moved to Dubai this year the Covid seems to me on peak and yet we are hosting the IPL right at the Corona Capital. Governments and Authorities can be wierd sometimes.

So, I am optimistic that the tournament will happen successfully as it is a pretty important event for the cricketing world and the domestic cricket development of India but there's a doubt lingering because of the casual attitude that our stars have. That " we'll see when it happens"

Another news coming out from Mumbai is that eight ground staff members tested positive for covid and with the situation getting worse you never know what will happen with the entire tournament. The recently concluded legends series was a disaster as the players tested positive after the series which includes Sachin Tendulkar, Badrinath and the Pathan brothers and we know these because they announced these in twitter and they might be others as well. Just curious to see how things will work in a situation like this.

With all the hurdles and the increasing case of corona virus means the BCCI will be forced to move the tournament elsewhere or will suffer the same fate as PSL and if that happens they have the money to move the tournament entirely to any other safe country and continue the matches within a month and i am not sure when PCB is planning to resume the PSL .

Governments and Authorities can be wierd sometimes. They were always dominant force in the Indian cricket (Selections criteria, Money and Political power). In recent time they are declining in terms of cricket but politically they are still very much strong. Gujarat also ranked up in the last decade or so but politically they are behind Mumbai by miles. Jay Shah is good with the lobbying and got plenty of experience under his belt but he's kid when comparing with the likes of Sharad Pawar, he holds the all key there.

Just curious to see how things will work in a situation like this. Although it was unfortunate, the point to note here is that the players tested positive after the matches were finished. The organizer were able to complete the 2020–21 Road Safety World Series on time, because in between the tournament none of the players tested positive. Also, all of the matches were conducted in a single stadium in the same city (Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium, Raipur), and obviously that helped.
