I think the points difference only tells part of the story. Recent form is the key factor. A few weeks ago I was saying that no-one could catch Atletico. That has really changed now. Atletico were winning everything and other teams were dropping points all over the place... but now Atletico look like they're stumbling whilst the other top teams have become remorselessly consistent. The way it's going, you can see that by say 27 or 28 games played, Atletico might no longer be top.

@hd49728 this is nothing but a face saving PR stunt by Barcelona, because behind the scenes they want him gone because of his wages. Also the only decision for Messi is to decide whether he wishes to play for PSG and connect with Neymar again, or head to Manchester City, and be reunited with Pep.

Messi's wages are enormous, but the thing is that he can earn around that amount and prolly even slightly higher if he moves to a different team. Lionel has given his best to Barcelona, so have the club done the same for him, he was in the past expected to finish his career at the camp nou, but it's only due to hierarchical decay that he reconsidered that decision, and not cause he's having a bad season.

Why do you think he hasn't left even with all of this? Because he doesn't care about money at all. If he cared about money he could have go to another place and he could have gotten a lot more money, in fact if he left to some Arabic nation like how his friend Xavi did, he could have gotten so much money that in 5 years there he could make more money there total then he made in all of Barcelona (ok this could be a bit overblown) and he was wanted by City, do you think City can't afford to pay him a lot of money? They could have offered him money that would be at least as much as Barcelona offers if not more.

This is why I think it is obvious that Messi didn't cared about the money and stayed in Barcelona because that's his team, he was here when he was just a tiny little kid and he has been here for that much time and in order to leave that team there needs to be something bigger than just more money offered.
