What a manager can do if he doesn't have the players to do it? It's a fact that Real needs for sure (at least) one "top shelf" central defender and perhaps a midfielder. Unless the administration of Real, has a secret deal with someone and waits to announce it or puts their faith in some of their youngsters. I don't know though to whom from them Ancelotti can trust the basic CB position.

Players decide the match, not managers. Managers can do good trainings, tactics, and psychological boost but managers can not play, score goals or make mistakes that lead to conceded goals. Players do that and in football now, managers are considered as less important than star players. Players receive better salary, bring more income to the club and when results are bad, managers will be sacked, not players.

I also think that Carlo Ancelotti is carrying a heavy burden. He came to replace Zidane but Real Madrid's financial condition was not in good condition and he had to lose 2 defenders. Given that Real Madrid failed to win a trophy last season, Carlo Ancelotti is definitely required to be able to present the title and for that Real Madrid will have to buy players, at least a reliable center-back to fill the position left by Varane and Ramos.

I think Carlo was aware of what he will face in Bernabeu. He is a very experienced manager and it is not first time he works with Perez.

Real Madrid has earned money from the sale of Raphael Varane and Martin Odegaard, so they should have the budget to buy new players.

They did not make any big transfer and the time is counting down. The summer transfer will close in more than one week.

For a very experienced coach like Carlo Ancelotti then I think getting the title at the end of the season is one of the things that the club management expects and demands the most.

Real Madrid are one of three candidates for La Liga but in my opinion, they have more troubles than Atletico Madrid or Barcelona. They are not the worst team among three candidates but I think they have less chance to win La Liga. It's first season of Carlo Ancelotti and the first season they are rebuilding their team.

Barcelona are in the second season with Koeman. Atletico Madrid are stable with Simeone.

Barcelona still too strong for Athletic Bilbao no doubt sure Barcelona win I just checked the Barcelona line-up and they are playing with the main players only Aguero is on the bench. Barcelona still too strong for Athletic Bilbao no doubt sure Barcelona win I just checked the Barcelona line-up and they are playing with the main players only Aguero is on the bench. I wouldn't think it will be that easy as you put it here. They don't really have Messi anymore, who is good for free kicks and who really understands how to put decent players into scene. Sometimes it looked so simple that you could say anyone can do it, but does anyone do it for Barcelona anymore? I don't see that happening and also, it is motivating to have Messi on your team because you always knew you can turn around with a single dribbling of Messi. That will change their self-confidence as well. Bilbao usually is a decent team and it wouldn't be the first time for Barca to lose against an average team.

@abhiseshakana how many quality defenders are on sale, because as far as I know there’s no quality CB available for sale now. However RM can try and get Mbappé with a $100 million bid, because that should be enough for PSG to sell him.

I would say that 100 million normally would not be half of what Mbappe really worths, I believe that he should be 200+ for sure. However the fact that he only has 1 season left on his contract is definitely a good reason to sell him for 100 million and right away because some other team may scoop up and get him for a lot more salary offer so Madrid would love to guarantee it right away instead of having this speculation going around the summer and PSG would at least make something from him instead of zero.

This is why I think it is quite important to realize that we should not be focusing specifically on the price point here, but the teams actually be willing. I also think that Madrid seriously doesn't have a bad defense, everyone keeps saying that their defense sucks but I still think that they are quite good on defense with the addition of Alaba.

Even in the previous matches Barca had some difficulties with Bilbao, as you said the game ended with a draw and you have that feeling that no one could fulfill Messi's position in the field.
To resume today's game: only 1 team won 1-0 and 4 draw = 3 ended 1-1 and one with no goals. Typically La Liga weird results!

Barcelona had a really difficult match against Athletic Bilbao. I think that Bilbao played more dominant in general. And they got ahead 1-0 also. Barcelona had a big difficulty in equalizing the score. M. Depay made a difference and scored a very crucial goal for his team. But they couldn't turn the game around and it ended 1-1.

I think that many people were expecting Barcelona to have a hard time. But I must admit that I wasn't expecting Bilbao to play better.

Barcelona won one point, they didn't lose two points. Athletic Bilbao away games are always hard, one point is good, they can compensate this in next fixture. Memphis Depay's goal was classy. Braithwaite was ineffective until he subbed off. I wouldn't say it's a bad start for Barcelona. Other games also finished as draw today. Only Mallorca got three points in earlier game. 4 games out of 5 finished draw this week, it's interesting. I'm sure we will see more wins tomorrow.

Certainly, there are not many positives for Barcelona today in a fierce confrontation against the Bilbao it's been always difficult to win games the stadium San Mames many teams aspiring to compete for the title do not get the results they are looking for.
