I think you name it here. The chances for Barcelona to fully close that 8 points gap is tiny at maximum. But you know, for as long as it is mathematically possible, I think Barcelona's job is to believe in the impossible to perhaps become true. But as you said, even if Real Madrid plays a weak game and loses those 3 points and Barcelona makes it 5 points instead of 8 points, I would rather consider it a big warning for Real Madrid and they would pull the trigger and not allow for Barcelona to get any closer over the course of the next few games. If it was like last season, I would agree maybe. I don't think facing Girona this time will be really considered as a tough match because Barcelona unlike before seem to be gradually improving a d appears like they will have the form and strength much better to be able to tackle girona in this their second meeting this season, and this is actually a team thst before now Barcelona wouldn't at any point find it difficult really trying to win them in both meetings.

Another thing I've observed in football is that once a team knows another is gunning for the title, they will do their best to cause upsets and I'm keeping my fingers crossed because with how Madrid players are either injured or out serving suspension and coupled with the stress of the international break, I feel Los Blancos will find it hard pulling an easy win.
