By the way congratulations to Athletic Bilbao on their Copa del Rey victory. I totally forgot about the game while following big games in the Premier League in the meantime.  

I was expecting Athletic Bilbao to win easier than this honestly. Mallorca made them quite big difficulties as it seems. However I believe Athletic Bilbao really deserved this title anyway. This season they are playing at a much higher level. They are trying to take the last spot for the Champions League from Atletico Madrid in the La Liga on one hand you know. I don't feel like they will be successful on that though but let's see whether they can defeat Simeone in the competition.  

Of all the big La Liga teams that play in the Copa Del Rey only Bilbao is able to survive and go to the final, while other teams that we expect such as Barcelona, Madrid and Atletico actually have to be eliminated sooner than we thought, yes Bilbao has all the advantages to win the final match, because indeed Mallorca in particular of course has never been favored to reach and even win the Copa del Rey championship trophy,  It was quite surprising for Mallorca to reach the final, especially their success in beating Girona at that time was really beyond my prediction because Girona is the most surprising team in La Liga and also the Copa Del Rey.

In that game Bilbao did have to work hard and even throughout the game they were able to get tremendous pressure from Mallorca, when I saw the game, I thought that Bilbao would lose but fortunately they were able to win the game on penalties.
After getting the trophy of course they now have high motivation to face the remaining matches and of course this triggers a tight competition in the Champions League zone at this time, I think the target of qualifying for the Champions League is a realistic target for them because indeed they have secured Europa League tickets at this time through the Copa del Rey champion path.

I didn't watch the Copa Dey Rey final game on live footage but was able to see the highlights of the game later on and in my own opinion, I don't think i expected Mallorca to perform impressively like they did yesterday. I was thinking the final will be an easy ride for Athletic Bilbao but little did I know that the Mallorca players will be too resilient to even take the game to penalty shootout. Congratulations to Athletic Bilbao for lifting the Spanish Copa Dey Rey.

I am very confident that Girona will remain in the top three of the standings. I think the next match, when they play Atletico Madrid, must at least end in a draw so that Girona's points are not chased by Athletic Club. Míchel is already considering the strategy that should be used for the match on April 13th.

If Girona can win in the next three matches, Girona still has a chance to regain second place from Barcelona because Barcelona will face tough opponents in the next three matches. This means that Barcelona also has to win in the next three matches to be able to maintain its position in second place because one of the tough matches for Barcelona will be against Real Madrid. Meanwhile, for Girona, their tough opponent will be against Atletico Madrid in the near future, so that is the match that Girona must win before their next two matches.

I don't want to believe that Girona will labour since the start of the season till this very moment to remain in the top three of the Spanish La Liga standings and not give their all to make sure they finish the season in the top four of the league table. The fight for who finishes the season in the top four is in the top gear at the moment but considering how impressive Girona have been since the start of the season, I expect them to fight with everything in them to finish in spot that'll guarantee them UEFA Champions League football next season

The Athletic club had a lot of chances to score more goals in this match early on. And also in regular time. So if somehow they were unable to actually win this match it would have been very sad for them. But luckily they were able to win and they were pretty lucky. because honestly, penalties can go either way. It was actually surprising the amount of chances that the athletic club had missed in this match. They had actually scored more than once but those were ruled offside by the VAR. So they have been able to win the Copa Del Rey competition.

Now I think they are going to concentrate on getting ahead of Atlético Madrid and finishing in the fourth position of the table in La Liga.

Girona's success in this season is massive and everyone is impressed but whether they will be able to maintain it in a next season and more seasons in future will be important for their club.

Girona can aim at that big target but it will need many years and with their limited finance, they will have to avoid breaking their club's salary ceiling for star players. They need to continue to find young and unknown players, grow these players up and gain more success from them. If Girona falls to a trap of lifting their salary ceiling, their finance will be unsustainable and will have risk of bankruptcy in future.

Everyone was impressed, but at the same time I was disappointed because, after the way they had worked hard, they were even topping the table and everyone was like, is this real Madrid or Girona? They just gave people false hope. That is football for you, it is bad to trust some clubs too much or expect such disappointment from them. and with the experience they have gathered, they will do better, next season, this season is already for Madrid. What pained me the most was how Barcelona passed them and led them by two points. It was not a bad performance from them but they would have focused more and become more consistent, and then they could even have had more chances of winning La Liga in the future, Ever since Sevilla became strong, they are still trying and someday Girona will get to that point in La Liga. Other small clubs might supprass them if they don't get serious.

There is a 7 point gap between Girona and Athletico Madrid, and they would still be fourth if they drop there, there is a 9 point difference between Athletic Club as well, so it wouldn't be really all that simple. We are talking about just 8 games left, expecting Girona to lose 9 more points than Athletic Club in the last 8 weeks would be a little weird.

I hope that people could find a way to make that work, I can't really see how that would be any different, but if that is what we are looking at then we should be considering the situation to be important. Barcelona has some interesting decisions to make.

On the 11th of April, they are going to play in the Champions League match against PSG. and,
On 14 April they are going to play against Cadiz.

I doubt it, yeah, if in Ligue 1 there were Lens who were able to finish runners up behind Paris Saint-Germain last season. I see that Girona is not much the same as the other league teams that I mentioned, however their performance in this competition is partly because they don't have a tight schedule. In fact, Girona only participates in two competitions, namely La Liga and Copa del Rey. So, they only focus on domestic competitions, especially La Liga. That's why Michel's squad can progress quite consistently. because every week, it is almost certain that they only play 1 match. different from other teams that take part in several competitions, especially the La Liga Elite teams.

I'm not sure Girona can do the same thing next season as this season, especially if Michael's team takes part in the Champions League competition. Most likely, Girona will be like other teams. experienced an increase in performance, then suddenly experienced a decline in the following season. Up to this moment many are still doubting Girona qualifying to champions league, i really respect how few people were happy to see a new change in Laliga seeing a non popular club stressing the strongest teams in Laliga and showing them how good they are and how far they can go with their consistent performance, but still few still doubt them, but if they are looking at it in the view of not maintaining it to the end, l will agree with them based on this is there first time of pushing so hard, but next time if they can do it again they will do better than this season because they could have gather more experience to make them stay at the top.

La Liga is not easy and very tough for mediocre teams. With the presence of Real Madrid and Barcelona, these average teams thinks they're capable of withstanding the pressure coming their path? It's funny how these teams fight really hard to accumulate points and when they've been the at the top, all of a sudden, they dropped and even returned back worse. Girona was expected to maintain the lead but they fall from the top and they're having complications to maintain their streak winnings. However I wouldn't blame them because they're average team and they have been doing everything to rise back up but it doesn't seem to be happening.

I like the project Girona is building. It's slow and it's steady. They're ready to take the long road and it will pay off if they keep at it. They need to build a team that would be a regular in Europe first before talking about building a team that will be a "top team". It doesn't have to be the Champions League alone, the Europa is a competition to build experience and confidence. Keep growing. Learn how to fight for a top 5 spot regularly, and know what it means. I don't believe any team just comes out and becomes a top team. The more they become popular, the more they attract good players and managers.

A major problem Girona is going to have is La Liga's financial restrictions and FFA. If they were in a league like the EPL, the league would even back them to sign players. Look at teams like West Ham, Newcastle, and Brighton signing big players to help them compete in Europe, this is something La Liga lacks and it's affecting the level of the league.
Hopefully, the next league management gets better than this one because the teams are suffocating and I wonder why the league isn't doing anything about this.

Girona remaining 7 points left from Atletico Madrid and both team will meet on next match, if loss three points, Girona will drop behind 4 points left and crucial for Girona if another match Athletic Bilbao can secure three points against Villareal.
