This coin is not a bad idea, but I never liked the cleanwater charity group because just focusing on giving people clean water is not enough.

Most smart people in 3rd world countries will boil or filter unclean water, collect rainwater and water from clean sources, they will not drink out of puddles in the middle of a paddy with a cow standing overhead like some pictures suggest.

Another thing, if your life really sucked and you have spent all your life drinking filthy water, you wake up the next day with cleanwater, would it really matter? It still doesn't change much.

What is important are the people need to be educated, then gain employment so they can afford decent dwellings. That is what charities should focus on, building up the local economy.

This is exacly how I see CleanWaterCoin. Providing free water is just the begining. When the real money arrives to the project, the sky is the limit and I am absolutley sure CWC developers will do much more then just water Wink

From @CoinWaterCoin:

Peng, I love your intensity. It's obvious you are incredibly passionate and that's what I respect.

The BTC from the PLC goes to a number of things that all build up Clean Water Coin. From server fees and additional development costs (updated wallet is what's being worked on right now) to marketing and media campaigns. None of the BTC from the PLC has gone to pay for anything personal or as some sort of salary--we are at such a critical stage and those funds are key to growing Clean Water Coin and that is exactly how they will be used. We won't be spending BTC to buy votes on some of these medium sized exchanges, and let me explain why. We want to be on Mintpal and Cryptsy and others, but rushing to those exchanges is very dangerous for the long-term health of a coin. Because we are so new and there is a relatively small amount of coins disbursed among the community we are very susceptible to a pump and dump scenario. We've had an incredible launch, have already donated $2000 to charity: water, and have attracted lots of attention and all that could be used against us to fuel a pump. But without a larger community backing us that holds a more substantial amount of coins the fallout from a pump and dump right now would cause serious stagnation and possible death. Don't worry, we aren't holding the coin back. We support the voting for Mintpal and your purchase of votes is an incredible gesture and hasn't gone unnoticed. This are hugely important steps in our growth.

Don't stop voting and don't stop emailing exchanges. Keep up the intensity. Participate in the new giveaway we just posted last night and help build awareness. I promise you, and everyone here, it is well worth the wait.

@Cleanwatercoin.........instead of quoting which floods the thread with very long posts, I'll kinda start a new reply.

You state 101 people will now have access to clean water, which is of course kewl if that means permanent access to clean water. For example spending $2000usd to dig a protected well that supplies 101 villagers might be a tad expensive, but worth the cost. If, however, that means rainwater catchments...........that is WAY OVER THE TOP expensive! I guess my point is very simple.......it matters a great deal WHAT is done with the donations, not just how many people it affects.

At no point think I am hate'n on ya or the concept. My posts relate to how the funds are actually used. As I pointed out, $2000usd for some makeshift guttering is obscene, while that same amount for a water purification system for a village of over 100 people is not only worthwhile but rather noble.

Short version: Don't tell me you spent $2000 to give water to 101 people. That is about $20 a person, but it tells me nothing about the long term sustainability of that expenditure.

The suggestion will be closed in an hour.
Thats the last chance for getting 500 WATER by simply suggesting a Chinese name for CLEAN WATER COIN!
After that, the voting and giveaway thread will be opened in the Chinese board of bitcointalk.

To the posters trying to knock the charity aspects of this coin by...I think you are a) wrong anyway as these guys use of funds looks sound and b) missing the larger point here...

first, we are talking a new type of charity here where donations come just by using a decentralized coin, through the 0.01% automatic donation on each transaction.  This is a massive incentive for donation as the end users only need to use the coin to donate and across all users it adds up - and this is a great innovation IMO.  At the minute the use of funds is not decentralized, but this could easily be achieved through voting by the comunity later.

...so not a 'traditional' charity where often 80% of the donations pay for suits in London/NY to scoff nice lunches and use of funds often follows political agenda of the host country - here are people in it for the passion, funded by miners and the larger coin community who genuinely want to make a difference - recent successful coins have shown this is what the market wants no?

second, in terms of effectiveness of clean water donations, Zach already explained the different approaches and he obviously is passionate about not only making a decent coin but making a difference in the real world for people - its about access to water not handing out bottles (obviously)

and to the people referencing countries like Philippines and Vietnam - please, in Asia these are fast growing tiger economies, big story in China last few years has been move of outsourcing there as well as the massive move to middle class from poverty happening across that whole region - certainly not in need like e.g. sub-saharan africa (although Philippines might be in need in the short term due to recent events)

think about it...in the future why do we need centralized charities like we have centralized banks that we basically don't know what is happening behind closed doors... instead real people just choose the coins they want and part of that decision is who else will be benefitting - job done.

think this concept could be massive in the long run and a great benefit to people.

mac wallet? anyone ? , I know this is a charity but Dev needs to spend some of that sweet IPO Btc on furthering the coin.
Spend money now on bounties etc. = more adoption = more money for charity
there's no block explorer ,  even it has launched 5 days, or 4 days?
when can we get it launch ?
