NBA is not really something that you need to "understand", as someone who has been gambling on NBA for over a decade I can tell you that any game could end up being won by any team.

The main reason is quite similar to football but more obvious: all teams at least lose a few times. Obviously when you are gambling on Premier League for example, you know that City will win almost every single game but lose just a few times a year, not a lot, just a few times. In NBA this is even more obvious because teams lose 10+ games almost every single year, which means they lose more than 10%+ of the time, most do like 20-30% losses even if they are championship contender. Which is why it means that teams that are close are even more confusing on who will win.

So when you are gambling, you gamble on the team that you think that will win, but the result could always be any team winning.
