We all remember the duel between Hamilton and Verstappen in 2021. But the new season starts very interesting. I think there are still a lot of surprises in store for us on the 2022 circuits. I wonder which of the riders has the most bets in the bookmakers on the races in Australia. I haven't found any data yet, but I'll look online. However, only 3 days left, let's wait and see.

I think the main problem here its the short DRS zone we have. But with the new cars they say are better for following so maybe you can reach the DRS zone more closely to the car ahead and make more overpass.

Ferrari should be advantaged over RBR in this track since it is faster in slow-mid speed turns.
Even simulations are saying so.

It looks that way after first practice, Sainz half a second clear of the Red Bulls. Leclerc would probably have been up there with him too, if he hadn't gone off track on his new softs.

First practice suggests otherwise, Hamilton back in seventh. I do think they'll recover some time on the Ferrari and Red Bull during the season, but it's probably too early right now.

Wasn't paying too much attention to odds but I feel like they haven't even shifted one bit from 2 weeks ago when I looked at them. Is that normal in F1 that everything is pretty much set in terms of likelihood despite news, updates, driver reports etc?

I'm still sticking with Verstappen pole.

Qualifications were not easy to watch.
Two crashes and some drama happening with yellow and red flags going on in the Melbourne track for the early morning action.
Looks like Leclerc is posed to take this race as they looked the most comfortable in turn 11 where almost all drivers had issues going into the races so far.

Right, I have to stop it with this Verstappen insistence (not even my favourite guy) and start to acknowledge that this really could be (or already is) Leclerc's season. Tsunoda let me down again -- thought I'd push him into my Top 10, should have put Gasly on instead. And 2 of my podium picks didn't even finish the race ha!

Indeed Ferrari shows incredible success. Probably many fans of other teams did not expect this at all.
Here is what Charles Leclerc says: “To be honest, judging by our calculations, at this track we should have been inferior to Red Bull in speed, but perhaps we should reconsider these calculations.
  It turned out that we are stronger than expected, and this was a pleasant surprise. I think it's too early to talk about the outcome of the championship, but at the moment Leclerc's advantage looks total:

The gap from the nearest serious competitor is 41 points, and this is a lot, as it allows you to make one big mistake (for example, get into an accident and not score at all) and still remain the first. Mercedes is still very lucky and comes in second place. For them, this is a very good result.

I am very surprised by the result of these two heroes of last season???  I can't even believe this is happening.  After all, all last year they were not equal.  And now we are witnessing a completely unique situation.  Both riders unanimously dropped down 5 positions at once. 
Indeed, F1 racing delights us with such unusual events.

Well Ferrari and Charles Leclerc seems solid like a rock, Red Bull and Verstappen has no chance against them.
He put a gap of 5/6 second in a few laps, two times this was cut by the safety car, but again he made land between them.

Mercedes say no upgrades finally deployed here.... i dont belive this so much, they are clearly closing the gap.

The race in Australia did not disappoint if you ask any competitive F1 race car fan watching this one unfold.
Seeing all three top teams reach the podium was a surprise but well deserved.
Didn't think this red bull driver was going to be up there as Max didn't quite make it and slipped further back every time I tuned into the race.
Same with Mercedes as Hamilton climbed out of the hole he put himself in early on but didn't quite have enough to finish strong.
Ferrari's LeClerc is well above everybody else on the table in points with Saniz dropping to third with his early exit of this race in Melbourne.

Yes, and i think its very important to Leclerc to make now a gap, because for me, Mercedes come back can pass in any moment of the season, so if this pass in the middle of the season and you have built a big gap, maybe you can be the champion only finishing the races in podiums or top five spots, because we can have 6 drivers fighting each others for the points.

Well, race were really worth to wake up so early on Sunday morning. There was no doubts about Leclerc win. After one of safety cars Vertappen was very close to overtake him, but how likely that he would be able to keep position.
Russel was lucky to get P3 after he was able to make cheap pit stop after Vettel's crash. It was awful weekend for Vettel. Good to see return of Mclaren, solid race for both drivers. And Albon- that moment when you make your only pit stop on final lap I really wanted to see him getting point.

Good point abount making gap while Mercedes and Red Bull have problems and have to fight with their own demons. I don't believe that it's going to last for whole season and sooner or later they will fix their issues.
