But if we look at the performance of both the team - they both played well. But it was not JApan day - I was betting on Japan.
Now the most civilised team will be returning back to the country.

The Croatian goalkeeper was not just good, but actually led his team to the next round.
The Japanese, of course, shot penalties very badly, but we still need to catch goals like these.
So Levakovic seems to be the best player of this match without a doubt.
As expected, Croatia came out, but unexpectedly not immediately, but on penalties. I thought Croatia would pass Japan much easier, but it turned out to be the most persistent playoff match.

At first I thought the penalty was where Japan are going to have the real chance of a qualifier to the next round but it appears Dominik Livakovic was there better and very much prepared to be the Hero for Croatia in today's matchbday live. I just couldn't believe it, he came to save the first 2 kicks with Takuna Asano only getting pass him with the third, then yet again he saved a third by there captain Maya Yoshida and he made it look so easy with the way he was just over the ball at each time.
Japan did there best but, here ends the road for them in this tournament with Croatia getting to proceed to the quarter finals.

It was the first match at the 2022 Qatar World Cup to go to penalties. Both Japan and Croatia played extremely well. I want to put Croatia ahead in the penalty shootout. Now we just have to wait for the penalty shootout to know who will emerge victorious in this match.

This match is one my best games in the competition. From the unset I predicted that this match would have less goals because both teams have very good defense. And I was sure that these teams would be extremely careful defensively to ensure that there are no defensive error. Both teams played good football and lived up to expectations. But I think the Japanese teams deserve more praise regardless of their loss today because many peopel didnt expect them to get to this stage. Any of them that lose this game would go back home as heroes because they fought a good fight. The match was determined by goalkeeper's performance and a bit of luck. Congratulations to the Croatian team, they deserve this victory.

Of course, I don't know if I can say the same for the fans of these teams, but I think the excitement level of penalty shootouts is always high. Asian teams won the sympathy of everyone in this tournament. I didn't give them that many chances before the tournament, but they surprised me with their performance. I see them as a little more sympathetic. Penalty shootouts require composure. The team with good condition will stay more composure in this section and will be able to go to the next round. Japan is more disciplined and I like them as a nation too. If they are just wasting the time to be decided by penalthy it will be a lot of pressure on both the teams.

The long wait for a penalty shot out has finally been played. The round has been interesting and the match between Japan and Croatia is no doubt another tantalizing match. Personal i expected the Japanese to win by a goal margin in the extra time of play but the Croatia team are very well organized in terms of team play and they all play like one team. Penalty is a game of luck and their is no strong side or any side that is good it just about luck and that means the Croatian got lucky and won.
The game between the Brazilian vs the south korean is not going to be that tough, with the likes of neymar back in the squad i think Brazil is going to win with ease and just like the big boys did theirs, maybe by even two goal margin.

The Japan team did tremendously well against last editions runners up. The Japanese put in a great performance for the 120 minutes but they lack the composure when it mattered most just like last time when they were knocked out of the 16s after leading two goals. This time it was the penalty, although they played well but there penalties were poor. They continued kicking on the floor with lack of power on it. Nonetheless they should held their heads high.

Croatia on the other hand weren't that convincing but just like last edition they won on penalties. They didn't win a single match in regular time in there road to the finals last time out. Are we set to witness around heroic move like that again.

Japan beat two former world champions Germany and Spain in the group stage, but for them the tournament ended today. They have good team play discipline, but they were eliminated from the tournament as individual skills had to come to the fore in penalty kicks. Honestly, I have to say, they took some really bad penalty kicks. Of course, Croatian goalkeeper Livakovic was very successful, but Japanese players could have done better penalty kicks. I think they took very ineffective penalty kicks. They need to practice more on this because they looked like they really needed it.

The other important match of the day will be played between Brazil and South Korea. Today, Japan were very close to making a surprise, but they missed the opportunity at the last moment. I also see Brazil as the favorite of the Brazil-South Korea match, but South Korea can push the limits like Japan. Let's see what happens.

I am not certain that the Japanese did not prepare themselves for the eventuality of penalties. Japan are a very good defensive team, much of their expectations would have been that they were going to be able to defend their goal, but that plan failed. The team will still be celebrated by their citizens, they won some games in this competition that were not expected of them, a good record for them, maybe they will do better next time. Croatia will be expecting to play Brazil next, but will be hoping that it turns out to be South Korea.
