I think that the West was surprised by the calm reaction of the Russian banking system to the SWIFT disconnection (although it seems to be presented as an economic nuclear bomb). It turned out that the banking system of Russia is perhaps the most progressive in the world, without problems with legacy, mainframes, punched cards and cobols - flexible, manageable and easily customizable.
Well again To begin with, it was not the Russian banking system that was disconnected from SWIFT, but part of the banks that fell under sanctions. Is the difference really noticeable? Or is it not true - have they disconnected the ENTIRE BANKING SYSTEM of Russia from SWIFT? Secondly, the financial regulators allowed some Russian banks to accept payments, at least to pay in CURRENCY (EURO or Dollar) for gas and oil supplies ... Is this true? So the statement about the fact that "the West is in shock" resembles the famous saying of the propagandists "NATO in shock", which they put everywhere with or without reason.

There are so many sanctions on Russia - but no one is going to stop Russian. Even after so many sanctions on Russia still Rubel is strengthening. If the world thinks that by putting bans on Russia would help building pressures - than they are wrong. Would the world stop buying oil from Russia? Of course not!

It is guaranteed that Qatar will not be able to sell super expensive LNG to Europe, but imagine the size of the situation, if they agree to a deal, then they are going to make a lot more. Sure it will not be as profitable PER basis, but if we are looking at the totals then it's going to be something serious. Imagine selling 100 products to someone for 10 dollars each, that is 1k dollars, then imagine selling 1 million of the same thing for 1 dollars each, that is 1 million.
So the difference is staggering, and they could drop the price and remove the date stuff and they could make a ton of money that way as well. Doesn't mean they will, but they could if they reach an agreement.
This doesn't really calculate the limited amount into the play. Sure they could sell a ton to Europe and make more profit that way, but then what happens when the resources ends? They need a guaranteed situation so that they would not be left hanging when their resources ends, or when Europe finds a renewable alternative and leaves Qatar. Qatar is already selling this for a lot more money and could continue to do that for decades and they are quite rich anyway, so they are not like paying some debt or poor nation hence they could continue to do this and would live fine. If they take on Europe, then they will be out of resources quicker, and will make more money for short span of time but less in the long term.

Putin made his fiat money recover by not allowing businesses to hold on to their foreign currency, limiting bank withdrawals, especially in foreign currency, demanding their foreign partners to pay in rubles. He also blocked Russian stock exchange to stop it from collapsing. People are being held hostage by their country's central bank, but on paper everything looks fine. It doesn't mean the ruble is strong.

The Austrian Chancellor, in an interview with Kronen Zeitung, said that the Russian underground gas storage near Salzburg (I don’t know how to pronounce it correctly, it sounds like Haidach in our country) will either be filled by Gazprom or will be forcibly nationalized and filled. The new scheme will now be called "use it or lose it" instead of "take it or pay it". Haidach is filled almost exclusively with technical gas, which is forbidden to be lifted (because it can be done conditionally once without any problems). That is, it is empty at 99% of useful filling. Of course Austria doesn't like it. Now Gazprom will either be forced to fill Haidach with its own gas (which will then have to be sold under the threat of forced nationalization), or lose it altogether. Bred "like kittens." But you need to understand that in Austria, talking about nationalization, both in interviews and even from the lips of the Chancellor, is not a very simple event. Gazprom is hysterical again

Russia has some leverage with that gas and oil, and with these two they are making a confusion EU countries! There's so much news from all sides, but most of it is just propaganda! Big talks, new deals, confrontations, buying more weapons, bigger funds for bigger guns, and that's a one-way street to total destruction! And I think we will see some big things happening in Europe, if not in the next few months then before the winter for sure! Like in the Game of Thrones, winter is coming! I think that pressure is pretty high on all sides, and I can't dare to predict the end of the year! I simply can't imagine how this conflict can end in some good way, too much negativity is everywhere around! I was in that situation and I know how it feels, big players just won't let normal people live normal! For now, the EU is saying they have a solution, and Russia says they have new buyers... people are dying, but business can't stop! And for what in the end?!

I'm not sure of it, because in some article it is said about Russia testing its banking facility around the country terminating its access to the world. This shows that Russia is already prepared to face any form of isolation from the rest of the world. Being a oil rich country the dependence over Russia by the Western nations were big. European countries have made talks with different oil producing nations from Asia and other continents, but they aren't able to supply the requirement. This has made European countries to focus on development of infrastructure for renewable energy production. Though it is a long term process, the initiation is done out of the critical position.

I don't think that Gazprom will be much concerned with losing the ownership of an underground storage. Countries such as Germany are nationalizing Gazprom subsidiaries and confiscating assets of Russia-based private entities. So sooner or later, this underground storage will be taken away from Gazprom. But filling this facility with gas is going to be problematic. Austria is a landlocked country (unlike the case with Germany, France, Spain or Italy) and receives about 80% of its gas from Russia through pipeline. In case of any disruption in supply, they are going to be hit really hard. Don't expect any help from Germany or Italy, as they will be looking to use whatever LNG or CNG they can get within their borders.

US is against Russia - ofcourse Russian defence is strong. So US didn't attack Russia, but now they are after Russia to pull all the string to make Russia a weak country. But Russia will recover. They know how to fight back. If there are so many sanctions on Russia why not on Israel and US for killing so many innocent people in world, US did more damage to world than Russia.

you made a very good point, post USSR fall russia actually never learnt from old mistakes, the globalized economy need us to cooperate. Russia made a mistake, it still practices isolated economy, secret science and do not focus on a win win situation with west. Which is imperative for it to rise in international forums in future.
Its a powerful nation with poor notions and rigid systems, It need to create win win situation for all
I do agree, ussr was too good in technology they were sending missions to space and inventing new modern weapons but they never focused on participating in global trade by producing good cars or textile fabrics. The current war is creating problem for Russia as well as for entire globe.

Well.. USSR was really good in space, defense and medical technology. But they lagged behind in some of the other sectors such as heavy engineering and electronics. And the same pattern can be observed even now, with the former USSR nations such as Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan. Even now the Russians need to import majority of the equipment needed for oil and gas extraction. And while they have huge abundance of metals such as Nickel, Aluminum and Palladium, they export these metals to countries such as China and import finished goods from them.

Russia is self-sufficient in both economic activity and domestic production. Their economy is not dependent on any other country outside. They are self-sufficient in basic needs. Russia has customers willing to buy its oil and gas such as China, India and countries in Southeast Asia. So in the long run Russia will continue to exist, but countries dependent on Russian oil and gas will find it difficult to stabilize. The EU will be engulfed in terrible inflation, next winter the EU will have to beg Russia to sell them gas.

You, when testing texts for humorous shows, at least warn me, otherwise I almost choked with laughter! Yes, the Russian economy is really independent - nothing depends on it That is why, before they had time to introduce sanctions, as industrial production and the domestic market of Russia collapsed at times

The Russian gas really an issue I agree with you. Europe is not finding this funny and trying to go for alternative. The Ukraine and Russian war is going beyond expected time. This may turn in something that the world may regret. Europe is sourcing for alternative to gas in Asian, hopefully they get a better deal.

Overall supply is quite limited and not even Qatar has the ability to ramp up the production on a large scale. What happening now is that Qatar is diverting some of the supplies to Europe at very high premium (stocks that were originally intended to end up in East and South Asia), while Russia is selling their LNG and pipeline gas at a discount to the Asian consumers. The point to note here is that both Russia and Europe are on the losing side. The LNG exporting countries such as Qatar and United States are profiting out of it.

I sense a big game behind Ukraine - Russian war. This oil trade game is going to change the world dynamics all together. But at the end Russia will rise again - no matter what - Because if the world is putting band on Russia - they would not able to survive without oil trade from Russia

Gazprom is hysterical again This is another European cargo cult, this time performed by Austria. Let's start with something a little different - so what happened after May 15, the date you talked about like that? What has Russia done to make the EU change its position or preferences? New fantasies again? )) And yes - Austria is a member of the EU, and Austria expressed its position, and expectedly sent Russia to where it belongs PS Or about May 15 - it was just a "bubble in a puddle", as always? ))

The sanctions on Russia will be a hard deal and the world will pay a heavy price for it.
