Don't think that they will go back to Russia for gas/oil supplies. They can't do that, after making all those big announcements and threats. At the most, they will import Russian oil in the form of refined products, from countries such as Turkey and India. In case of natural gas, it is even more complicated. Natural gas can't be refined and then re-exported. So if the EU needs Russian gas, then they need to purchase it directly. Either from the Gazprom, or from the Yamal LNG project (which is under the ownership of Novatek).

This decision greatly come across German plan of green energy and complete refusal of petrol and diesel engine car usage from, if not mistaken, 2035.

Finland has already found an alternative to Russian gas - "On Friday, the Finnish network operator Gasgrid Finland and the American company Excelerate Energy signed an agreement to lease a floating LNG terminal for ten years.

And this is a loss of a buyer FOREVER for a Russian manufacturer.

Finland is a developed country with good finances. They share borders with other European countries such as Sweden and it is very much possible to get supplies from Sweden or Norway. That is not the case with Lithuania. The economy is stagnant, and the total population has gone down by almost 40% in the last three decades. On top of that, Lithuania is surrounded by Russia and Belarus from three sides. Their army don't have any real combat experience (unlike the case with Finland) and are entirely dependent on NATO.

It started in 1969, when Christian Democratic Union was kicked out of power in FRG (1969) and Willy Brandt of the Social Democratic Party became the chancellor. The meeting between Willy Brandt and Willi Stoph in 1970 can be said as the official start of Ostpolitik, in which (West) Germany started a mutually beneficial economic relationship with the Soviets. It is laughable that now a lot of people claim that Schröder was the one who came up with this policy.

This is a normal reaction to "weaning from drug dealer supplies" Sooner or later you have to pay for all the mistakes ... And with gas supplies, the issue will be closed in 1-2 years. With oil, the issue is already being closed, due to the lifting of the ban on the sale of oil from Venezuela. LOL.. these "delays in implementation" are hilarious. So what the EU is planning is to accumulate as much Russian gas, oil and coal as they can in the next few months, before they could claim that they have stopped purchasing these products. They themselves know that without the Russian imports they can't survive. Within a month or two in to the winter, we will be witnessing extensive rationing and power cuts across the EU. And I suspect that most of the fuel pumps will run out of refined products by that time. Idiots are cutting down the branch where they are sitting. Darwin called this behavior "natural selection".

Russia is the world's third-largest oil producer, behind the U.S. and Saudi Arabia, and the world's largest exporter of crude to global markets. It is also a major producer and exporter of natural gas. So, it is impossible if EU prospect a Russian gas ban.

If EU not able to import gas from Russia, then the country stops, the economy stops, cannot heat the houses, cannot run the economy.

When they impose sanctions, then they have to make sure that those sanctions are hurting more those against whom they impose the sanctions than themselves.
