As far as the clearnet version is concerned I think it has mostly been under constant DDoS from when it was launched (and it did not open for me too). The Tor version seems to be opening without any issues.

I tried today to access the Tor version of the website but it says "The connection has timed out". Besides, the clearnet version of the website is down for about 2 weeks now. Does anyone else encounter this issue?

WhirlWind onion website works fine for me with Tor browser, I just tested it few minutes ago, but I agree they should finally fix the clearnet website, unless they decided to drop it all together.
I also haven't seen whirlwindmoney member in forum since July (more than a month ago), and it would be nice to hear something from them about this issue.

To say that something works "fine" can probably be considered as a subjective individual feeling.
I would say that it works normally for me with loading speed like some other TOR sites. I believe I could say that the Whirlwind TOR page works fine for me.

The other thing is with the clearnet site, the unavailability has been going on for a long time now. At least an informative branded error 404 page would be useful, just enough to know that the service is still functional, even if only at the onion address.

Before entering into Whirlwind, be sure to upgrade your Tor Browser to 12.5.2 as there have been security updates in Firefox: https://blog.torproject.org/new-release-tor-browser-1252/

Since I joined this anonymity mining campaign I never cashed out anything from my note. And, after first 2-3 weeks, when I admit that I did not check thoroughly everyday my balance for observing if I received or not the daily reward, after that I started doing it on a daily basis.

However, I started doing it on a daily basis because I believe that during first weeks I did not always receive the daily reward. However, since I can not say that I checked properly, I am also not 100% sure about this. But after this while I checked my balance everyday, I wrote down the existing balance, I checked in the next day if my balance was bigger and with what amount and I also checked if that amount was correct.

I noticed some irregularities since I started doing this.

So first of all, I did not receive everyday the daily reward. In some cases -- but not always in the next day I got a double reward. Another curious problem was the fact that my reward was not always an amount slightly raising from a day to another. Let's say that today I was supposed to receive 1000 sats/day as a reward. If today I got 1000 sats then tomorrow it should be a greater reward, as the reward applies to the existent amount. However, it should not be a big difference. But during all this time since I kept the rewards under severe scrutiny I noticed that in a day I was getting a reward, in the next day I was getting a reward smaller with a few hundred sats, next day I was getting a reward greater with a few hundred sats, next day I got again the correct amount, then again a smaller one then again one a bit higher and so on.


On June 14th I wrote to Whirlwind and I kindly asked them to check in which days I did not receive the rewards between May 17th (the day I joined the anonymity campaign) and June 14th. They told me that they make manual payments and this is why some errors appear but they always resolve them -- so, in case the person in charge with the payments forgot to pay you today then tomorrow you will get a double payment. This was not always happening.

They also told me that they will make this check for the rewards I received until then and they'll come back with a report. The report was not sent until current day.

Excepting that, since that day I kept emailing them each time when the daily reward was not sent again. Their last reply to my emails was on June 25th. Since then I emailed them 5 more times, informing that the daily reward was not sent again but they never replied anymore. I also asked in some of these emails how much it's going to take until they'll come with that report. Since they never replied anymore, I also have no idea about that.

In any case, this problem is not a singular. I know other forum users which also did not receive their daily rewards or which did not receive the right amounts.

Right now, this is the second consecutive day when the daily reward is not sent. I guess that if WhirlWind wants to act in a professional manner, first of all they should be more present on the forum and also be supportive when customers ask for their help through emails...

I totally second that.
In this kind of service, impeccable user support is of uttermost importance.
Reliability over protocol must be accompanied to reliability when there are problems, big or small.
I don't know if Gazeta was referring to me, but I experienced the same kind of problems reported by Gazeta. Only with less emails back and forth from WW ( and also having a smaller stash over there).

Thanks for your input, dear fillippone. I did not want to use names as I did not know if you (or others) would feel comfortable if I did it. However, it is useful that someone else joined this discussion and supported the issues I raised above and also in the past.

At the moment, there are more than 550 users which keep their funds as deposits inside notes and I believe that some of them are also forum users. Perhaps someone else could also intervene and tell us if he received the payments correctly (meaning everyday and the correct amount) or not...? Or if he received other information through emails from WhirlWind...?

The problem is not that big in my case, at least, as I do not have a huge amount stored. Perhaps I would have reacted differently if I stashed there 1-2-3-4-5 BTC. But, however, it is not normal what is happening. Someone should come with an explanation... At least it would be common sense to do that.

I have maximum respect for hard-earned satoshis. And I quite often think at them in terms of intergenerational wealth, then every sats count!
To me, 0.1 1 or 10 BT are a well-earned source of income, and I am jealous of them, all of them.

Yeah it looks like they just disappeared and gone underground, but I think they are still working on making serious changes and introducing new privacy features with exchange and other improvements.
I know some developers are doing similar things when they want to focus and do more work in shorter amount of time without distractions, but maybe their campaign manager Hhampuz can say if he had any contact with them recently.

In the beginning of their anonymity mining I used to leave the balance of the campaign in the Whirlwind account for days. If I remember correctly it seems fractionally more than it should have been therefore I presumed the anonymity mining was working correct. I did not calculate to see 12% APR added but for a long time I started withdrawing the same day I receive payment therefore cannot say if the APR being paid is correct.

I hope Whirlwind come back here and respond directly to the irregularities comment.

This is disappointing to read because Whirlwind really should have responded to emails whether or not they posted here. It does of-course help if they are present here too but as long as the service is up and running (and they are responding to emails in a timely fashion) there regular presence here is not essential unless there are announcements to be made.

Again, I hope Whirlwind post here with an explanation as to why their email support response was lacking appropriate urgency. As well as that, I hope they make a statement about what is happening with their anonymity mining and the 12% APR.

In isolation, if you look at the bigger picture their email support does not seem to be to a high level and an explanation is needed about the 12% APR for anonymity mining therefore apart from these two issues there do not seem to be any complaints and that is a good sign.

Indeed, there were no other complaints so far about them, excepting the mining rewards and the lack of support... At same time, I don't know if the problem with the daily rewards is a systemic one (meaning if I did not get the rewards in a specific day then all 566 depositors also did not get their rewards or a random one (meaning that only a few random users out of all 566 depositors did not get their rewards in a specific day).

If the problem is systemic then it's a bigger one. Imagine that all those 566 depositors would be supposed to receive 2000 sats in a day. If the problem affects them all, then this is a missing payment of 2000 sats x 566 users = 0.0132 BTC, which is a serious amount. Now if such problem occurs 10 times in a month, the mount goes up to 0.132 BTC. And so on.

Obviously, we can't know what amounts in daily rewards are supposed to be paid to the depositors, but I just gave an example.

I don't think their absence is because they're grinding in and focusing on some new feature, I think it's quite possible that they feel they've grown to the point where they feel that they just don't need to interact with Bitcointalk anymore. If the site is profitable and paying for itself consistently, and if they're seeing user metrics growing even though they haven't been here on Bitcointalk, it could be possible that simply word of mouth is what will drive them from here on out. It's like if they build truly the best mixer in terms of function and features, it should spread on its own without their need to interact here with us. I mean, it feels a bit like a slap in the face if that's the case, but I would get it and understand it if that was the mentality they were taking. The best, most sustainable mixer should stand on its own without the team having to get into fine details and arguments on forums. I personally do not feel like Whirlwind is at that point yet where they can drop the community on Bitcointalk and expect to grow, but maybe they do.

As of right now they are paying thousands of dollars each week for the signature campaign, reward deposited coins with 12% APR and require you to pay absolutely 0 fees when withdrawing, not even transaction fees on the blockchain. I therefore do not believe that they are already at an break even point right now. It takes a lot of time to build trust and a regular customer base that is appretiative of their service and willing to donate enough.

I'm pretty sure we will hear from the team soon.

As GazetaBitcoin calculated, there is a significant amount that can be "saved" with only 2000 satoshi per user, but why would anyone do it and think in such a way, when the very idea of staking came from the owner of a whirlwind? Just stop this option and continue working on mixing only.

You can check them multi-signature escrow address^[1] if there is activity in withdrawals, the mixer is fine and working, and there is a balance of about 10 bitcoins in it, so there are no problems.

Maybe it's better to turn off the "mining rewards" as an additional feature, at least until they implement it better and obviously, it's not set up well. This is not crucial for a mixer service it only unnecessarily casts doubt on the functionality of the whole mixing service.

If they stop giving mining rewards, then perhaps the Anonymity set will decrease, as there will be no reason to leave your coins in a central mixer that may run away with your money and you will not get a return through it. The number is currently 567 user deposits, and I remember that it was about 4xx about two months ago, so there is a good increase in the number of Contributors who trust Whirlwind and canceling this feature may be harmful to Mixer. I don't know if them goal was 1,000 or 10,000 deposits, but features like zero fees and ANONYMITY MINING CAMPAIGN are essential things for them at the moment.



Regarding the delay in replying, I alerted them to the necessity of having an active member (if they do not have time,) these things will not cost them much (less than 200 dollars per month) but their effect will be better.

In addition to that, hiring an active person here to answer frequently asked questions and send problems directly to them if they do not have time to keep this ANN updated. After all, the service is still new and the support team’s delay in responding is not an act of a service that wants to gain trust and needs trust.
