now, how sure are you that attention creates thoughts? maybe there's a stream of thoughts that could happen regardless of your attention but you can uses your attention to keep them or leave them...

I don't know if there is a clear answer to this in the literature, but at least to me, it seems like it's a bit of both.

On one hand we just get random thoughts all the time, but on the other hand, things that you have paid attention to in the past tend to appear in your thoughts as well.

I'm sure advertisers would know the answer to this, because they pay a lot of money to be in the minds of the people.

not sure if there's consensus regarding this topics but it's a really interesting one, I'd say it's the most interesting topic I've ever talked about here on the gambling boards of bitcointalk.

Honestly, I have not researched about gambling in a context of human development, because it is easier to find information on the superficial part of it, the commercial portion, the strategies and News which are in the mainstream.

If you asked me, I would say gambling is an activity which is full of relativeness, from the amount of money one can lose, to the way other perceive our status (according to the money wagered).

Though, if we talk about addiction, it would be better to stay within the psychological literature, where the most useful approaches are supposed to be.

Like any addiction its possible for the stream of consciousness during a day, what motivates you to continue doing your job the difficult things in life; all that can be disrupted.   I would argue none of this occurs by gambling cause alone, underlying causes that push a person into a negative bias is what I would mostly blame.  Depression or grief from loss of a loved one is perfectly normal behaviour and thats all it takes to de-stabilize someone enough to develop some kind of addiction imo.  The worst addictions are physical like drinking but also uncontrolled gambling would be a large negative imo its important to keep a fixed budget weeks ahead of time for this reason, avoiding upset.  Ideally people are helped as much as possible and consoled by a professional where possible.

We can easily become an addiction if we are not very careful and plan how we are going about our gambling activities. Gambling can be easily addictive if we make sure that we follow our gambling plans so that we don't end up becoming a chronic addict. I was once almost becoming an addicted gambling but I was able to realize as quick as possible and controlled it without any assistance from anybody because I was very aware that I was the one that is going to suffer the consequences if I don't try as much to help myself to get rid of it as early as possible.

Only those who have ideas can understand how destructive a person can be when addicted to gambling. I am also aware of the many gamblers who resort to theft and extortion to manage their gambling money. But not all gamblers do this. Attention has been studied a lot, for example we know that we don't have too much "energy" to make decisions every day, there is a decision fatigue, so it is important to control your environment.

Of course advertisers know this and tries to control your environment as well. Supermarket product placement for example is key.

That's what being a responsible gambler is all about. At least he can realize how long he has been gambling so he can immediately decide to stop gambling and not look back on whatever has happened. He could go back to gambling another day, forget about his previous losses, and have no intention of recovering his losses. And it won't cause problems for him so he won't have any problems with his family because he can still be responsible with his gambling. It's different if he gambles too often, where he also loses a lot. There will be emotions that will rise and become high, and it will affect his psychology and emotions so that it will disrupt his and his family's life.

I could be wrong but seems like we've been gambling pretty much forever, since there was money there were people wanting to make easy money by luck.

They have the will, but they divert that will on the wrong things, if this same person takes life investment very seriously instead of gambling, his family will be proud of him, most times it's better to even lose everything while doing something right, rather than losing everything to something that's a narrow escape to turn your life around with.

Gambling will easily ruin anyone if care isn't taken, someone I knew turned his family into enemies because they warned him about gambling, he so much believed that gambling would solve all his problems, he ran away from home and said cruel things on the phone to his parent, I remember he told his mother that she hated him, he said his father don't want him to make it in life.

This broke my heart so much, for parents that are ready to push their children higher, they are so responsible and they believe in education, his kid ends up wasting his time after he ran out of home and he later learned his lesson, but it was too late, the mother died and family members reunited him with his father.

This is why I believe that a young person who is addicted to gambling is far more deluded with gambling than an adult who is a gambling addict, it's very hard to make them see reasons that they choose the wrong path with gambling.
