I’m surprised this image issue on the forum is still not resolved beyond asking users to find ways to replace all their image links. I’m curious why this is a thing, but I assume it’s that nobody wants to put in the work to fix it without benefitting personally, otherwise it would have been fixed months ago. Am I going to have to fix all my own image links or is the forum going to do it at some point in the future? I have switched to using talking for new image posting.

I doubt theymos will take any action on old posts because he likely doesn't want to set a precedent of editing users' content on the forum beyond standard forum moderation practices. So it's best to do it yourself. You can automate this process by using this script: [Script] Imgur to TalkImg - automatically fix your broken images

That's right. For the forum administration to correct the situation, you must modify the post links. An approach that I doubt they will take.

It might not even be necessary to touch the posts, and a proxy could be created for this purpose.
However, to do this you would need to host all these images on another server, on TalkImg for example. I was even available to discuss this situation, but this would involve additional costs that would have to be assessed by the entire community.

So, for now, I think the best option is to do the conversion personally, using existing scripts. The more users do this manually, the easier it will be to find a medium-term solution.

I appreciate your feedback and your testing. Thanks.
Well done on your efforts to make another useful tool for bitcointalk forum.

I know you said it is still in beta, but after my testing I have to say that it didn't work for me two times when I used JPG images with size of 6mb and second was larger than 9mb.
Third time I decided to try with different format PNG image with size of 5mb and it worked fine.
I don't know if some formats are not supported on Image Zip Tool, or it's some other issue.

For now, JPG, PNG and BMP are possible. Maybe it's the file size.
What error appears? Or did no error/message simply appear?

I already have everything configured, but even if I didn't, it should be working, since the image link is via the forum proxy.  Undecided
Does it only happen in this post or in others too?
Good point: it works in other posts. Maybe the URL is really just wrong in the other one (but it's hard to check with Bitcointalk's proxy in there).

Thanks for the reminder. I totally forget people talked about it about a month ago. Anyway, i just checked the result on other browser and it shows image without any problem. Although the resolution changed from 7680 x 4320 to 3840 x 2160, is it expected behavior?

These are usually very large images, which take up a lot of space. Therefore, this was the method I found most appropriate, reducing the size of the image, so as not to lose too much quality.
Do you think it was a bad choice?

It's good this way. It's still very large. The only alternative would be to add an URL tag to the image, so clicking it shows the full size.

It's nice choice. It's just you never mention it on https://zip.talkimg.com/ which may surprise few people.

Thanks for the sugestion. In the next updates, I will add more details about the zip process.  Wink

It just shows Error converting image, and I doubt that reason for this error was file size, it's less than 6mb size, regular JPG file image.
I just tried using ImageZip tool again and I got the same error result as shown below:

Image I used is randomly selected with public domain license and can be found here:

In reality it can be. The compression method being used is by reducing the image size by 50%. But, if after this reduction, the file continues to be larger than 2.5MB, it will give this error. I have to find a way to resolve this issue.

Is it not possible to further increase the compression method used such as 70% or can you do some custom size so that you can see how much it takes to compress the uploaded image so that it is not more than 2.5MB.

The higher the compression done, the more the quality will be reduced, depending on which compression method is applied Lossy or Lossless.

Or give Normal, Aggressive, and Ultra Optimization levels.

It's quite difficult, but I think you can provide the best solution so that it doesn't burden the server too much.

Alternatively, the uploader needs to make sure their image is not that large in the first place or re-save the image to reduce the size. I don't mind doing something like this if I need to upload images to the forum.

The idea is to reduce work for the user. Although I continued to be of the opinion that it should be the user doing the reduction, not a script. But, recognizing its usefulness, I developed this tool.

I have to think of a way for it to continue reducing to the accepted size.

Webp would help alot with the compression, sadly this forum doesn't support it though.

Can't you base the size reduction on the actual size? Or just fit it in 1024x1024 (but keep the aspect ratio), that should be enough for most forum posts.

Yeah I resize a lot of images. One thing I find is if I shrink to

2.1-2.4 mb some times it still says too big.

I manually re size to 1600 by 900 which always works.

Of course it is slower.

I may try this method. They hadn't thought about that.

Actually reducing to a 1024x1024 aspect ratio seems adequate to me, for most cases. I am going to try.

Actually reducing to a 1024x1024 aspect ratio seems adequate to me, for most cases. I am going to try.
You can also add option on Talkimg website when people try to upload larger size images they would receive message asking user to resize image to specific ratio or to allow automatic resizing.
I don't think this would be hard to implement since there is already tool for resizing on Talkimg, that would save time for everyone.
One example of image I talked about before that is around 6mb file size, after I did manual resize on my computer to 1000 pixels, image size shrinked to only 162 Kb.

I have used Imgur and Imgbb too many times,  and it didn't create a problem yet, but from now I will try to use this new website too.
I like its new look, and the interface it provides is amazing. That would be quite nice to use it and as you have already mentioned that especially bitcointalk users can use it, but I will also tell others, that they can also use it without any hesitation if they are facing some problem in Imgur or Imgbb. And there are many other websites too through which we can get the image links.
