I almost laid in on new Zealand.  I always like betting on underdog teams that are host nations and I went against my gut.  What a great game they played and with that Norway has to be reeling.  I don't follow too much year by year but know Norway was definitely not supposed to take this loss here.  Looking forward to see the US team tomorrow night.

They defeated Norway because everyone but themselves saw the New Zealand team as a country that will not be able to win with their poor soccer history. They worked hard in the game as the host country and at the end ended up not disappointing their home supporters who came to cheer them up and also people who were bold enough to stake on them to win the game as the underdog. It is a big win for the team and country, attention will be on them on their next game to see if they can get another three points.

Usually the first matches of important championships, especially the World Cup, are matches in which the teams start more nervous, make more mistakes, and the teams with total favoritism end up having a lot of pressure, so it's not unusual to have some surprises at the beginning
A detail that may also have made a difference is that New Zealand was playing at home, with the support of the fans and the motivation was very high
They are difficult matches to bet on, sometimes I prefer to just watch than to bet
From the second matches on I believe the results will be easier to predict

I am very happy about the World cup games and the participating countries. This competition is much calmer that the men's competition. I am still questioning why it doesn't get the same viewership as that of the men's. The BBC carried that there are poor ticket sales.  Some people are arguing that the reason for this is because one the quality of women's games is not high as that of the men's and secondly that New Zealand is not particularly a footballing country. How true is this? Do you agree that these could be the reasons?

So, World Cup started with big surprise, hosts New Zealand winning against Norway. Didn't expected such outcome, but as I posted before, home factor can help for New Zealand. I watched both opening games partially and it wasn't most exciting, expected to see a bit more goals. Well, maybe we will see more goals on Friday where all 3 games have significant favorites.

It's not about that New Zealand and Australia isn't footballing countries. Simply now it's not possible to compare popularity of mens and women football, though women football is moving in positive direction. But even in men world cup we don't always get sold outs in some group stage games. So, poor ticket sales in women world cup when hosts aren't playing isn't such big surprise, even if tickets is cheap.

I also dont like to watch women football, not because it is boring, but because it is like watching football in slow-mo, and two completely on different level teams meat often. Sorry to say, but women football isnt developed at all. I have never seen a kid wearing t-shirt with famous women football player. I think no one could even name top players, or who won previous cup without googling. Since Brazil is most football playing country, I believe they gonna win.

Women football like the UCL and world cup has so much evolved and revolutionized meeting up to those of the male. The the level of competitiveness is high, you can use this women's world cup that's ongoing to view the changes for yourself and you would marvel with a keen interest.

For the favourite teams in this 2023 WWC I give it to the USA, England and Nigeria women, these countries have a lot of female football stars that are performing so well I'm their different league clubs and it's something to watch out for to what stage they can carry their team's to as the games unfold with each fixtures.

Canada has dominated the game so far and I see an opportunity for Canada to score easier but Nigeria's defense is also quite good, and Canada's dominance is only in possession, and shots on goal and in the right direction both teams have the same result.

What happened to Norway? They were supposed to be one of the strongest teams in women's football. And they lost against one of the weakest teams playing in this tournament. Climate in New Zealand is also very similar to that in Norway. Obviously New Zealand had the home advantage and tens of thousands of fans cheering for them, but at least as far as ranking is concerned Norway is far ahead. Anyway, don't want to take anything from the Kiwi women. They played exceptionally, and deserve to be in the next round.

Honestly a draw vs Canada is a good result for Nigeria though. Playing out a draw with Canada in women football, I think Nigeria need to even celebrate it. Overall, it was a good performance by the Falcons. They should have won but there was no connection between the midfield and the attack, they have to improve. Nigerian attack always loses idea once they reach the half line. Going forward they should beat the Irish if all goes well and try getting a result vs the Aussies, and I think that’d be the problem.

Honestly a draw vs Canada is a good result for Nigeria though. Playing out a draw with Canada in women football, I think Nigeria need to even celebrate it. Overall, it was a good performance by the Falcons. They should have won but there was no connection between the midfield and the attack, they have to improve. Nigerian attack always loses idea once they reach the half line. Going forward they should beat the Irish if all goes well and try getting a result vs the Aussies, and I think that’d be the problem.

A draw means one point for the Super Falcons, and one point can make the difference to qualify for the next stage of the competition, so it is not so bad. Canada would have won the game had there not been some Heroics from our goalkeeper who saved a penalty. The super Falcons need to develop from this performance and do better to ensure they claim all three points against Australia the next country we play.

It will be good that we are at four points at the end of next game, It will be a better hope for qualification.
