Depends on how we see successful gamblers, it may vary. For me successful gamblers are the one who take home huge amount of profit and beats the casino. In this case, I'm positive that there are addicted gamblers who successfully beat the casino with the luck or the experience they have.

Success can be temporary and some addicted gamblers can prove it by losing their massive accumulated profit later on. Though I can't generalize it all since we all have a different experiences, but one thing is for sure. Those who stay successful has the skills and control on what they are doing.

And it has a name called professional gamblers, these professionals are somehow addicted as well but we cannot say that they don't know what they are doing because they surely think differently compared to the other gamblers and that is why they are called in that name for a reason and because they are getting what they want by doing some gamble with more success on their side. Successful gamblers also experienced that kind of experience which you have described to addicts in gambling. For sure for their first time or they are just starting they have felt the same way but it would only differ on how they would take that experience if its a lesson or just an experience. If you have seen a video on Tiktok of people doing a gambling where they almost look like a zombie by just playing slots (I can't find the link for the video). So would you consider them as addicts? We can right but how come if they might act like it but they've already won huge amount that's why their behavior and attitude is like that? My point is everyone might have different mindset in doing gambling, we have different techniques so even if you do your own research but if you lack experience you would still get a hard time in gambling because its still based on luck.

Because the only successful gamblers are those who gamble patiently and do a lot of research on gambling without panicking and gambling. a person who focuses more on a thing gradually becomes an expert on that. Yes, it's true, this depends on our point of view about the meaning of the word "successful gambler". The successful gambler does not only mean that he has gambled for decades and has made a lot of profit. But someone who is just getting to know gambling and joins in gambling then he wins a very big jackpot, in my opinion that can also be called a "successful gambler" too.
But if what the OP meant is the successful gamblers that I mentioned first, then I think yes, they will certainly experience addiction, but they can control their gambling desires, therefore they can be called "successful gamblers".

A successful gambler clearly has better self-control than other gamblers, where they can play gambling calmly and not just chase victory. And I also agree that successful gamblers are not gambling addicts because of their advantages in playing gambling. They can think about when to leave the casino, especially before losing a lot. Meanwhile, this is different from us who are still provoked to keep playing even though we have experienced many losses. But honestly I disagree with my first statement, and my assumption is the same as yours that in gambling the meaning of success is in other words those who are able to fully control themselves with some restrictions that they have planned beforehand and they can do it without any obstacles, but referring to the first statement I disagree with successful gamblers are those who manage to get a lot of money, it doesn't make sense if it only relies on luck. Around 80% gamblers  haven’t self-control that's why Most gamblers seem to suffer. Gamblers get greedy very quickly and on the other hand gambling sites advertise themselves and show attractive offers which make gamblers auto greedy.  And those who can control themselves and gamble with a cool head and deep thinking are the ones who succeed most of the time. I disagree though. What we would consider to be a "successful gambler" cannot be a person addicted to gambling at the same time, because the success would imply to have self-control and planing on money, which is something a person addicted to gambling cannot do easily.

For example, someone who is successful at gambling would imply they manage to keep a positive net gain in relation to their losses, regardless of their total amount wagered and when we think of someone who is addicted we imagine someone who is going through such crisis which could let them to sell their goods, to have family problems, even lose their job.

For that reason I do not believe a successful gambler can be addicted to gambling.

This always comes down to money. If we are talking about poker players maybe they have a chance, but if we are talking about casino games then there is no chance that you will win because of the house edge.

So, the bottom line becomes "are you making a living out of this and making a profit overall?" if the answer is yes then we could say that they could be addicted but also since it's their profession then they may not even enjoy it, it could just feel like a job for them and maybe they rather not even do it, but they still do because they need the money. I have met with a guy who was a professional poker player and he was like that, he wagered online on poker rooms everyday for hours and that wasn't fun for him, it was a job.

Of course, it becomes addictive to gamblers when they get constant profits. I have a friend who is very much addicted to betting site because of which he bets daily and a few days ago he sold his bike just because of gambling addiction. There are many rich people who have taken up gambling as a profession. Actually this is their freedom based activity so they have found a way to earn money without working hard. Gambling makes you rich and it takes no time to become poor so the risk is high in this game.
