if they are using their time and effort here and also used their income/wins to bring food for the table then I think it is not addiction but a profession and with those they are not entitled to be called addicted.

I think you are mistaken passion for addiction. To succeed in most things, you must be passionate about it as it is the passion that will be the motivation during down times. Even gambling requires this passion to succeed. A gambler without passion may be reluctant to person detailed analysis of the games to play and may be easily discouraged when things go against his expectations on few occasions. This passion must not be mistaken for addiction because the former can be controlled while the later controls the gambler.

This is especially true for card players, these guys are able to control themselves as well as possible. But those who constantly spin slots are very bad at controlling themselves.
