We don't actually need any validation from people around us because to be honest, no matter what we do, either good or bad, there will always be judgements and opionions that we might hear around us. If we will always rely and listen to what they will say about is, we might lose our focus and might have a hard time enjoying the things that we deserve.
As for me, it will be better to just enjoy gambling without hiding it or even broadcasting it, just do it the natural way. The society will always have their opinion about everything but we shouldn't focus on them. As long as we are doing gambling responsibly and we aren't causing anyone harm, we should just enjoy what we love to do.

I do not think that it is as easy as you say to simply keep your gambling habit a secret. Unless you live completely alone and have no family and friends. But even then it seems to me that eventually someone will take notice, as it is no simple feat to stay invisible in our heavily populated world.

And furthermore, it is no good to keep your habits a secret because we as humans need feedback, whether or not our behaviors are damaging to ourselves or someone else. If you were to develop and addiction, it would be good for someone to identify it for you. Because you yourself will probably not be able to tell that you have a problem. You need an outsider's perspective.

In my society for example, if you are a gambler, automatically they see you as a bad person, and people will start avoiding you, they believe you are a bad influence, and my country is so religious so if they see you that you are a gambler, they will make you feel like you are a devil, they don’t care if you are addicted to gambling or not, but their is nothing bad in gambling, just that it’s the addicted set of gamblers and making people feels like gambling is bad due to their activities in the society.

If you are in a society that they see gambling as a bad thing, then it’s better you just keep it as a secret just to protect your reputation, because even if you are not a addicted gambler, they still see you as a bad person. The only people that knows that I don gamble are the people that are very close to be, but I do keep my gambling activity private.

Sometimes someone prefers privacy rather than showing off what they do or earn with pride. because we live in a society where there will definitely be many differences of opinion regarding various things. especially when it concerns gambling activities which for many people this is an activity that tends to be negative. Because after all, in most countries, gambling is still illegal and will even be punished or arrested if caught doing this activity.

Not only that, lots of bad things happen to someone because they are too addicted to gambling. So that people will be sensitive to the word "gambling". I could say that gambling is something that you could really be proud of because it is really just that something that just a past time or an activity on which you would really be able to find or seek leisure.Cant really be able to deny the fact though that there are communities or those individuals who are really that skeptical or really have some bad views towards gambling and this is why on the time that they do see someone who had been engaging to it would really be having those kind of impressions and reactions that it was really a bad thing. Well, thats how people do look and sees about gambling and its really that right that on the time that people do feel out that kind of treatment then it is really just that right that they would  really be that tending to make things in secret and this is why they would really be not letting others know on what they are doing.

It's just how their beliefs and ideologies were built up while growing. It's nothing wrong imo, privacy is something most people keep forgetting exists, but it's a right most people have. And if people don't want you to know they were gambling, who's to force them right? It's not a matter of "hiding" stuff because they're doing something wrong, that's just a REALLY dumb argument. If all it took for someone to be recognized as a criminal was because they were hiding something, a lot of innocent people would get arrested and a lot of criminals would probably get away still with their crimes. Anyway, it's a simple matter of "wanting" to have privacy for whatever they do, regardless of whether it is gambling or not.

I myself keep it to myself, kind of dumb to spread it to others like I'm preaching some religion or something, but at the same time if somebody discovers it then fine, I don't particularly mind it. It's not a sin, and if your country allows it, then let them find out for all I care. The thing here is that them "finding out" and me "preaching it out" are two different scenarios, and the latter just sounds, well, a dumb move.

Not letting people know that you're gambling is a big risk especially for people out here with wives and kids that they need to provide support to. Sometimes and let's be real here, we tend to overdo it and gamble more than we can afford to lose all because of the heat of the moment or whatever is urging you. Having someone who's aware of this to stop you when you can't control yourself anymore is a great thing. Thing is most people dabble in dualities when the world doesn't work like that. You can let people know that you're gambling without making it look like you're announcing it or something. You can slide the information as discrete as possible and it would've made the same effect as if you had told them outright, at least without the prying eyes you get when you go out of your own way to tell people of your vice.

Since many people view on the negative side, many gamblers keep it a secret so it doesn't become a hassle. We also don't want to involve our family with our business. If we are too open about our gambling habit and the society ends up judging it as a bad behavior, not only will bring the impact on us but our families will get involved too. This is something that everyone doesn't expect to happen. Remember that we don't live in the same society! There are a strict society that always curious about others. If you live in the big city, people probably don't care whether you are gambler or not. But if you live in a village, it may be a serious matter.

When i do gamble, then i could freely be doing it whether when im on my desktop and playing in my home or would really be in transit whenever i do go to work and playing gambling along the way or

would really be doing it on free time.Its none others business if they would really be able to see me playing since its my money after all but there are indeed moments on which you would really be that hesitating on the time that your wife do knows that you are doing some gambling thing. We know that women are really that skeptical on spending up money or wasting something like gambling on which this is the only time i do really tend to hid it up or would really be stopping for a while when shes watching or been around but on the time that im free then this is where i do consider on having such session.

His wife and family probably don't like it but as soon as he wants to gamble, he needs to limit himself. Another reason could be that there's a taboo for gamblers. It's not that gamblers aren't proud, i've answered a similar question before and one of my reasons for keeping mine a secret is that I don't want to give my family members a headache because when it comes to gambling, they're overprotective after one of their acquaintance became addicted from gambling.

I think that those who hide their passion for gambling just do not want unnecessary attention from the society.

Personally, I don't really feel that it's interesting for someone to know about my gambling habits. Sure, the first thing that they'll ask is if I ever won a huge amount or not (which the answer is, unfortunately a big resounding no) but that's just about it. Unless they're also gamblers then I'd feel somewhat okay with talking about it for a little then shift the conversation to something else. I feel like gambling, as a conversation piece, isn't always the best thing to bring up, though you can forge connections quite easily with it and sometimes meet interesting people.

Over the years, I'm not really that afraid being tagged as a degenerate based on my gambling habits. Let them judge, they're not funding my gambling activities anyway.

I do not keep my gambling a secret, however why I should be proud about it? It is like being proud about watching TV, why would anyone be proud about an activity that anyone with working eyes can do?

Besides there is a difference between keeping something a secret and just keeping that information to yourself, after all I do not think there is anything wrong with sharing that information with your friends, but I would not do so at my job as I do not like to mix my job with my personal life.

With your situation then it is indeed a wise choice if it is not too indiscriminate but of course hiding forever is also not possible so I think making a statement that we are a player to the closest family is still a good thing because in the end this will also encourage a little self-control if you go too far in playing gambling and there is still family to remind you.

I think gamblers just don't want public shaming through superstitions. That's all. I believe its more like "avoid" mechanism which is not bad. I always tend to avoid arguing to people because its 1. time consuming for no reason 2. its not something constructive. Anti-gambling people will always repeat same old stories that people talked for centuries. Gambling is fun habit and gamblers know it and its not big deal if we don't make it public.
