Quickfix could be adding a check for low blocktime and increase the banscore with 10. That way clients would disconnect from clever after 10 fast blocks for 1 day because the default ban limit is 100. Easy to implement, dynamic and not centralized.

I would get behind this.  You're 100% correct in that this would be an easy implementation.  The only thing I would worry about is forked side chains from people not updating their clients.  The breakdown looks good now, but before the 130 update, there were a lot of people on old wallets.  Of course, you would just ban versions older than the newest as well.

Not a bad idea, thsminer.

-Fuse

I think this (thsminer's idea of banning miners with fast blocks by using the banscore) would cause chain splits and net splits. Imagine that clever is connected to 2 peers: a and b, those 2 peers will block clever after 10 blocks. Clever will then connect to two other peers to relay their blocks: c and d. c,d will relay clevers blocks to a,b. After 10 fast blocks c,d will block clever, but more importantly: a,b will block c,d. This goes on and at the end of the day the network is splitted into several groups of peers and miners are divided accross those, causing multiple chain forks to be mined.

Conceptually; the idea of banning a miner after too many fast blocks have been mined would work. But the question is: how to effectively ban while keeping the network safe. (again: proxying is really really simple, and banning blocks of IP's won't really help).

Great response /GeertJohan, also good to hear from you again. Do you have a target month for the algorithm change to take place?

You are right about that Bram_vnl, you will notice I only post on this ANN because I couldn't give a shit about other alts. They are all...

... so maybe doge is a exception with it's community but it will never be taken seriously in the long run.

Forks won't occur if the clients only accept the latest version of the wallet(the version with the change) and ban the rest.  I did this with KDC when they hard forked, and then forked 20 times in like an hour.  The dev at the time didn't limit the version, so the old version that was a higher block reward was still submitting "valid" blocks.  If you limit the version to only the newest, every wallet would reject clever's blocks.  The only way this wouldn't work is if clever changed the code, distributed the modified wallet to the community, and he had more people behind a takeover of NLG than NLG has itself.

If you limit the version and do the ban score, it will work.

-Fuse

EDIT:  The other thought I just had is would it be possible to self ban?  Essentially stop clever from submitting the blocks in the first place.  After the ban score gets to a certain point, the blocks aren't accepted from that client at all.  At the client... before it pings other clients for confirmation.  Just a thought.

You mean like this? http://www.projectgulden.nl/92/rekenkracht-bijdragen-aan-het-guldencoin-netwerk/ but standard and with an easy UI or something?

Problem with this is that it is not pooled mining, but solo CPU mining. Chances of getting NLG through this way are very slim.
dat zet geen zoden aan de dijk

Maybe using the wallets to contribute some power to the network will do little for the current problems, I still think it's a good way to make the normal users aware of the fact that Guldencoin is more than buying some coins at Litebit and store them in their wallet.

If you want to attract more (potential) miners then let the normal users take their first steps with the piece of software they all have, their wallets. Give them a reward that's always much lower than regular mine rewards so it's not really worth to cheat by using multiple computers. And if they cheat they still contribute. I think this option is ideal to go viral within the normal group of users, and maybe a few take the step to real mining.
