There was a really interesting result in the Coppa Italia match yesterday...



Atalanta just destroyed Juventus!    I was never expecting such a score. I thought Juventus would even be the side to advance to semi finals. I mean they weren't struggling with organizing attacks.

The problem was finding the target. 2/13 only and 1 hit woodwork. There was no Kenan Yıldız as well which weakened their offense. Did Spalletti want to just rest him? He was on bench.

Are they hiding their strengths, I saw Atalanta was mediocre in the previous matches, but hey against Juventus who have improved finally crushed unopposed by Atalanta in the quarterfinal match, two teams have taken to the position, first Inter Milan and second Atalanta, We need to wait for the Napoli vs Como and Bologna vs Lazio matches, the semi-finals will be interesting to see if Napoli or Como do not meet Inter Milan in the semi-finals according to me of these two teams can meet Inter Milan in the Final, I am quite sure for Inter Milan to get there before the match starts.

Napoli even struggled against Genoa today. After that red card I thought that was it. But Højlund scored a last minute penalty. He was really horrible earlier but there is some progress in his form recently.

Napoli almost messed it all up way too early in the game. Starting the game with a misplaced back pass that resulted in the goalkeeper committing a foul right within his box, that was handing over the lead to Genoa before the game even started. As you would have it with big teams and elite players, Hojlund and McTominay had other ideas, taking shots at the goalkeeper, positioning for rebounds and finding the nets, it was just coming. Good thing they had a last minute penalty of their own and they Hojlund wouldn’t miss it for the world. Down to 10 men in a game that has being ridden with defensive errors, they managed it alright.

Here is the statistics of the game, no body should think that Napoli were only lucky in this game because they dominated the game as they had sixty percent of the ball possession as while the home team got forty percent. Napoli even had better chances in front of goal as the were able to shots as opposed to Genoa having twelve shots on goal. This is no luck it was hard work the problem was that Napoli was finding it scoring goals from the first half.

No one considers Napoli win as pure luck. But honestly the final score Napoli got was really lucky. This is not just about statistics. If you watched the match yesterday it should not have been a foul. But after the referee checked VAR and awarded a penalty to Napoli it was clear that luck played a big role.

On the other side I want to criticize Napoli defenders. They made the same mistake twice. Losing focus and giving Genoa the chance to score. Conte should be able to enforce more discipline on the defensive line.

A quite surprising result actually occurred when Atalanta managed to beat Juventus with a quite promising score and I saw that Atalanta's game itself was much more effective because Juventus was not able to score a goal in return in that match. This victory happened unexpectedly because previously I thought Juventus would win the match, but the effective play shown by Atalanta made it difficult for Juventus to keep up. It will be much more interesting when Inter Milan and Como meet in the final, so it will be a different final because Como has surprisingly been able to perform extraordinary this season.

What a struggle that was by Napoli... Now I see why their odds were 2.00 for the win against Genoa.    They needed a penalty in the stoppage time to bring the win home.

They didn't play well. Genoa were so comfortable with creating chances for themselves which resulted in good. They scored 2 goals but couldn't hold on until the final whistle despite their opponent's playing the last 15-20 minutes with 10 men.

I also didn't watch the match until it was finished, and I thought before that Juventus could win here, because Atalanta only had a 1 goal lead in the first half and that was from a penalty kick, I thought this would be easily reversed by Juventus but after I saw the results of the match Juventus didn't even score a goal at all, in this match it was clear that Atalanta really had a good strategy to open up the Juventus troops, from the way they blocked Talanta's attack and carried out attacks very neatly, it shows that Atalanta was more disciplined in this match, Juventus will be fasting for trophies again this season.

That has been Napoli story lately, they always struggle to win game, that if they even manage to win. For me I think their problems now lies in conceding goals, this is very much unlike a Conte’s team, for those who know Antonio conte very well should know that he his a kind of coach they is always defensively conscious. When we all heard lukaku was going to be out for a long time we thought scoring goals was going to be difficult for them but Hojlund have stepped up and if that defense have been that good as last season them I think they might be a serious contender this season.

At the end they manage to get all 3 points, well in a very ugly fashion but it doesn’t really matter, it now on to the next one. Imagine if they had dropped points yesterday they would have been really out of the title race and they would also have to fight real hard to get a champions league spot.
