The fight for Champions League qualification this year seems to be shaping up very similarly to last season, when there were five teams battling for four spots, and Juventus ultimately secured the last available spot at the expense of Roma.
The difference is that this year, there are currently five and a half teams battling for four spots: by half, I'm referring to Como, which is now becoming a certainty, adding confirmation after confirmation, and which could ultimately cause some much more prestigious clubs to struggle.
While I do agree that Juventus and Roma are fighting for it, I would not put Como and certainly not Atalanta there. First of all lets get Atalanta out of there, the fourth place Juventus has 46 points and Atalanta has 39 points, that is a seven point gap and we are not going to see that close at all.
Secondly Como has 41 points, which is five points and while that "may" close up, we still have Roma in between, so Como would need both Juventus and Roma to start playing badly at the same time.
In my opinion, neither Como nor Atalanta intend to compete in the Champions League.
Juventus has a comfortable lead over these two teams, but more than anything else, they will want to use their access to the Europa League, especially Como, which would be its first European experience.
