BTC-E

why ?
1. small transaction fee
2. you need 100$ to start chatting so there is no trading newbies
3. fast responing on tickets (while the respond doesn't help a lot)

For people that are allowed to trade then coinbase is a good exchange.
They have a bit high fee, but still they are good, i often use poloniex for altcoins.
The volume sometimes increases sometimes it goes down depends on what day and the number of users online.

BTC-E is the best. Here are the reasons:

1. One of the oldest exchanges
2. Located outside the EU / US
3. Ease of deposits / withdrawals
4. Availability of other crypto-currencies
5. Right now, the largest BTC volumes.
6. Never been hacked or DDoSed.
Just as a correction, BTC-E has been DDoSed on Septemebr 7th/2015

I'm using BTC-e because it doesn't require any personal information. I never deposit government currency there but I deposit BTC and make my trades. It's easy to use, fast and secure. I know in the past it has some "hack"ings but I don't hold my coins there for long. I withdraw when I finish my trades.

I prefer local exchanges when I want to withdraw money. TBH I don't talk about them here because you probably don't know and can't use these local exchange sites.
BTC-e does pretty good job for BTC/USD and BTC/LTC trading. Great volume comparing to local exchanges. It suits my needs, so I'm a happy customer for them.
Trading fee is %0.2 btw, which is normal for this type of service.

0.2% fee is just enough for exchanging fiat money to btc,
Since there is no local exchange in my city I used a bit much last year cryptsy but now i don't like them
This year i have been moved to poloniex, there is a good volume for the alt coins that i trade most.

May i know which local site are you using in which country?
Unfortunately in my city there is no local exchange, if it was i would hold more bitcoin Smiley and sell for cash easily.

I will try localbitcoins.

Localbitcoin is tricky too, have you read a story here when a guy lost his bitcoin dealing through localbitcoin...

For users in the Philippines, I highly recommend coins.ph, simply because they had been the best service there is when it comes to changing bitcoins to our local currency. Also, their  CS representatives are very responsive and are always willing to attend to their customers needs. As for altcoin trading, I personally use Bittrex and C-Cex. Smiley

lately i find myself using bitonic.nl more to buy and sell bitcoins than actually using an exchange. i don't daytrade anymore so it's the best option for me. step 1 buying btc from bitonic and you'll get them in your wallet instantly. and once the price is high enough to make profit i simply sell them. if i sell them in the morning i receive the money the same day in my bank account in working days.

I like to poloniex.com due to the low fees and excellent support. And I could switch different deposit address and avoid being tracked.
