rhetoric question? Because you always participate with fluffy.  Cheesy

Decided to scrap this one. It's too long and too dry, even my wife couldn't get through it. I tried editing it down, but it's irredeemable.

To have a curated directory with the most important, must-have and must-know Monero links on one page is beneficial. Being able to quickly & easily find the Monero links & pages he searches for and by discovering other major ressources, a user didn't know before, is or can turn out to be very useful, during daily Monero-related work.

Because I often forget the Monero links I looked for myself, I build a small directory of the most important Monero links. I would like to share now:

http://xmr.biz/links.html

I know this is boring to long-time XMR community members. But this pages goal is to help everyone (esp. people new to the community) to save some time researching, looking up needed information or discovering central Monero ressources they didn't knew before.

---> You may like to share this link, with all the people you introduce to Monero, for example: colleague at work or new friends you meet on Tinder.

http://xmr.biz/links.html <- Please provide feedback. Thank you.

Thank you for this.

I seriously doubt that he is really concerned, but if so then those papers are no good because they aren't independent.

If I was interested in some kind of attack like your puppets I would do it ..

Your puppets? Sorry I didn't follow that.

Quote
You probably not aware but I was mined your coin during the summer of 2014 with my farm and already hold some coins ..
I'll look over the documentation to see what are you already improved.

Ok then. We're certainly interested in your feedback on the reports. If you also are looking for code improvements and work in progress as opposed to review and analysis you should also check the extended github (the monero-project master and also the various developer and contributor forks).

The year-in-review thing might be helpful, though of course that only covers 2014

Smooth, are these all your Monero commits or are there more? https://github.com/iamsmooth/bitmonero/commits/master?author=iamsmooth

There definitely more than that. Off the top of my head I can think of several checkpoint updates, implementing code to verify checkpoints at startup, and merging a bug fix from BBR. None of that is there, so that's a bit strange. I'm not sure where they all went

If you are looking for lots of code though, you won't find it, that's not my primary role on the project.

I do not think a Missive is required every single week. I appreciate the effort, and I look forward to future Monero Missives, but missing a missive isn't really a missed missive, in my mind.  Smiley

Yes, essentially, to "hide who the real shooter is" - so that way the payment is untraceable. Three people signed it, but there's no way to know whose money it actually is. THere's some analogy / example out their with leaking secrets. The real world scenario is transactional privacy!

I imagine it as thus: you have a lockbox with your money in it. Your key can open it, but anyone watching would know "hey, ginger's taking money out of his lockbox". So, in order to prevent someone from seeing who's money it is, you set up the lockbox so that there are a lot of keyholes - say, 12. Now 12 keys have to be used to open the lockbox - but still only your key opens it. So anyone watching could only know that its one of the 12 keys that opens the lockbox.

"Well" you say "what if the observer sees me going back to the same lockbox?" But that is why stealth addresses are used, so each time you go to your lockbox, its like the lockbox is being painted a different color. So all it looks like to an observer is "well a bunch of keys are opening a lockbox".

And to further the privacy, each lockbox is for a different amount. So if you're sending 12.43 xmr, you could have a lockbox for the 10, the 2, the 0.4 and the 0.03.

I could be way off, but that works for me.

(edited to replace people with keys, because its not active - its passive)

Awesome explanation, GingerAle.

I think this should be "stickied" at the Monero Forum.

EDIT: and thanks dewdeded, xmr.biz is a nice addition.  Sent you a PM

I'm confused, what are you bumping? smooth replied to your comment, you're bumping his reply?

Incidentally, the Monero Research Lab has been around for just under 8 months now. smooth has been an integral part of that, and has done everything from writing simulations to finding corner cases in theories. I did a quick grep of the Monero Research Lab IRC channel, and in those 8 months he has written 5 250 lines (of the 23 539 total lines written). Something to think about.

I set this up just for the debate between XMR and DRK; if you want to move the discussion / debate from here.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1001642

I will only moderate and have no dogs in this fight.

Just a place to have respectful debate and/or Q & A.

Yes please take all this drama to the new thread.  I want to hear about Monero.  If I was a basketball player I'd send all that trash talking trolling garbage out of my lane.

Those people in the dark coin thread are crazy! Its like some sort of cult or something over there. They all have me blocked but I did nothing that could be construed as trolling. They think it was part of some sort of elaborate plan, that i was "laying spider webs" and that it was going to all climate in some sort of very clever troll trap.

It's actually really bad because I run something of a little business on bitcoin talk by selling my impeccable reputation and I cant have people ignoring me. In fact I was tip toeing around the whole time precisely because of this. But it's just apparently SO easy to offend their delicate sensitivities that i somehow managed to do it.

*edit* part of me wants to go over there and try to repair the damage i somehow caused but the smarter part of me knows that if i do ill make things worse.

Don't worry, their rhetoric, or lack of it, is ugly and unappealing to neutral newcomers. It'll work itself out.

I believe that the latest weeks on btctalk had raised a sense of paranoia in dash supporters.

Animal studies showed that animal exhibiting a behaviour are the most prone to be concerned of someone else exhibiting the same behaviour - this works for humans too. Probably something related to mirror neurons.

For instance, the blackbird (not 100% it is the blackbird, but definitely a non-raptor bird) steals food from others and his constantly taking measure to avoid its own food being stolen. My previous competitor at scriptarium.fr (that we then left in the dust) was convinced every one was trying to scam him - it happens that he was the kind to scam everyone. This is a great way to gauge a person. Tell me what you fear, I'll tell you what you are.

Now, you are telling that they think this is "some sort of elaborate plan". Should tell you something about their way of behaving.

That says a lot right there.

Anon136, I don't know your history on bitcointalk but you should be aware that the vast majority of coins are like that. There is no interest in technical or other questioning or debate, no logical consistency, no real ethics (at best, apathy toward ethics, though many are literally deliberate frauds), it is all about how to make the price go up and how much the price is going up. You step in the way of that mob at your peril.

This is it.

If there is someone here who can defend dark on this particular point:

Can we talk about this instant transaction thing. How does it supposedly work? In the world of crypto there are only 2 ways of doing transactions instantly. A trust based system or centralization. Has dark somehow over turned the metaphorical laws of gravity in the world of crypto or do they use one of those two. If they use one of those two what is the justification?
The masternodes lock the tx, even if a conflicting valid transaction gets mined they reject the block its in.

This opens a nice sort of attack where you can split the network (i.e. isolating MNs from each other)

You would be very welcome in our xmr vs drk discussion thread. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1001642

It's fair and open and moderator is only deleting obvious troll posts.

Lol. Another one? Sorry but I'll pass on that xmr PR thread.
If you want to know about drk ask around on darkcointalk or check the github repository.

Its only an xmr pr thread because no one has come forward to competently defend your position. The moment someone does this, assuming your position has merit, than it could very easily be transformed into a dark pr thread. The point is to have open troll free discussion from both sides, im here as an emissary because we are distinctly lacking in the dark representative department. But there certainly is no lock, no means of filtering dark representatives out, its yours for the taking if you can take it.

THIS is what got basically everyone to ignore me. How can people possibly be this delicate? Ive been on this forum since 2010 and i have a total of 14 people on my ignore list, since 2010! I cant even imagine how many people are on the ignore list of people THIS sensitive. (interestingly icebreaker is one of the lucky 14)

Come on it is normal when you speak to a vast community. Every community has its retards, noobs, fanboys, etc.
For every ICEbreaker here you'll find at least 3 of kind there.
