Spotted this on reddit:

Quote
Exodus co-founder here, thanks for sharing! We started heavy on Monero integration last week and have been making some good progress. Here's a screenshot I took of my portfolio a few minutes ago: http://imgur.com/VjbW3MX - includes my first Monero purchase Smiley

I was optimistic that we'd be able to ship with Monero support this Friday (April 8th), but the user-experience needs a lot of improvement. In Exodus, it's imperative that every coin behave like the rest - this means instant notifications of receiving coins, near instant exchanges, etc. We hit some problems with Monero and are working on fixing them so that we can ship with Monero support Smiley

If you have any direct questions, either comment here or don't hesitate to email me at jp[at]exodus[dot]io

Sorry, I don't mean eliminate dust entirely, because that's impossible. My sentiment was directed towards people that have huge amounts of dust (like 89 XMR worth), from tons of tiny outputs. That didn't come from just withdrawing from an exchange. It's normal to have small amounts of dust and that can easily be resolved.

I understand, I only suppose when those today's 'tiny' amounts tomorrow when monero hit 400$ will be usable  Cool I got rid of dust and learned my lesson - collect monero in bigger chunks if possible, and round ones. The problem is that I also often collect small amounts. Not 89 xmr but still. Ah, and now simplewallet doesn't show unlocked dust at all, so it won't irritate people Smiley Most of users won't even know they got some dust anymore.

The problem is not really the tinyness of the inputs. It is their uniqueness, meaning that when an output of 0.000000489599 WAS created it was really hard to find another with the exact same amount, let alone two or three more.

Enter the hardfork:

No new unique outputs will be created again. The amounts are denominated to the 12th decimal place. Transacting the above amount would produce 5 different outputs:
  • 0.000000400000
  • 0.000000080000
  • 0.000000009000
  • 0.000000000500
  • 0.000000000090
  • 0.000000000009

This presents a problem when you make mixin Ring Sigs mandatory so there is an exemption for sweep_dust transactions, which is now called sweep_unmixable.

You could also refer to dust as amounts below the fee threshold. I don't know how these are managed.

Wait, did he had 89XMR of dust? Huh I saw he had only including unlocked dust: 1.442914014341
I had the more or less the same amount of dust and around 280 xmr  all collected in small and even tiny inputs  and managed to send out all of them, but wallet had to split to 11 transactions, the fees were about 5XMR though. I used transfer_new, btw. I guess he was in the same boat. The remaining dust I successfully swiped out in the newest 0.9.4 wallet so we may consider this problem solved, hurray! Smiley

5 XMR to retrieve 1.44, you are 3.56 in the hole, did you mean .5?

Can you explain how you transferred this with transfer_new?

I had a little dust and tried to sweep_dust, didn't work, now with 0.9.4 I tried the new sweep_unmixable and it errors and didn't do anything I can't see my dust amount anymore.  Is there something you have to do to split it, or does simplewallet do it when you run the command? Is there anything I can do?  It was only .05 XMR, so no big loss but I guess it would be good to sweep it, even if I only get a small bit after fees, It only makes sense.

No, it was ~ 5xmr of total fees to send out 280xmr, of whose around 1,2 was dust. I sent 275 xmr and there left something around 0.25 of dust, which was impossible to swipe with sweep_dust command because of unmixable inputs. This was resolved by newest command sweep_unmixable. The fees were so high because those 280xmr were collected in small payments, mostly from various mining pools sending from 0.2 to 0.5xmr rewards.
To summarize the story  - do not collect small payments, better collect payments in bigger amounts per transaction - this will cost you less fees when you will spend your moneroj.

transfer_new is the same as transfer - i.e.: transfer_new 3 (mixin_count) recepientaddress 280 (amount of transferred moneroj)

A nick I've had since a time when IRCii was the only game in town.

This reminds me.  I owe dEBRUYNE a long overdue hall of fame update.  Dang my new job is killing my time...

Swalecko on Reddit has posted some news regarding the official GUI.  It looks like things are progressing nicely.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/4dl7vz/great_process_on_the_official_gui/

It looks like the text was cut-and-pasted from a spreadsheet, so the details may be difficult to read.  I've taken the data and reformatted it into something a little easier on the eyes.

I want to start using Monero crypto currency.

I do not want to install the client.

Is there a paper wallet available or a similar secure option?

Thanks!

There is a web wallet run by one of XMR devs at https://mymonero.com/#/ - Not sure if it's still charges an initial fee though.
