Something like 2-3 GB. It takes more disk space than that once stored in a database (was about 9 GB in the previous version, I think it might be less now).

Pepe understands.

So the sum of the size of all those 1164777 blocks as received over the network is currently 2-3 GB,
but once they are put in the LMDB the size is much bigger.

Hm, interesting.

So Pepe learns that monero uses LMDB and BerkeleyDB for the storage of its blockchain.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_Memory-Mapped_Database

Pepe will put on his MAGA cap and get to work now!

https://gist.github.com/hyc/be05ac1b5af0dccb6ac722307be61d53

It's already out of date, now that ringCT is in the code base. But it covers the important bits.
A similar table is in the code. https://github.com/monero-project/monero/blob/master/src/blockchain_db/lmdb/db_lmdb.cpp#L148

Since this is the type of documentation that is only relevant for developers, it lives in the code and nowhere else. That's how open source is meant to work.

Thanks.

Indeed, there is no way around Pepe studying the code from A - Z.

And Pepe sees beautiful code. Nicely written.

What is most fascinating about Monero is that its constantly evolving but the main core principles and parameters stay the same (privacy, scalability, emission curve etc), it keeps incorporating stuff that Bitcoin was suppose to like RingCT and now Compact blocks, I doubt there is a more promising fair launched cryptocurrency.

Pepe loves a coin that stays honest to its principles and doesn't throw them out at the first opportunity to make a profit.

Real hard to find such a coin nowadays. Altcoin board is dominated by ico scamcoins and cashgrab shitcoins. It's a damn shame.

Of course not.

I believe that now is a very good moment to show his independence from Bitcoin.

If the price goes up, it will prove a feature of this coin and show that Monero can compete with Bitcoin.

No, should be 200-250 h/s. Best place to debug probably #monero or #monero-pools on freenode.

Pepe picked a good time to become interested in Monero imho.

I wonder if Pepe realizes the person who answered his database question is the author of LMDB?

I know, right? But apparently this standard bitcoin mechanism of send a full block with all the transactions already at the destination just never got questioned.

Not all pools allow for minin gdirectly to an exchange, which it appears you are trying to do. I've never done it, but maybe the monitor doesn't work with mining to an exchange. If you're submitting shares, you should see some hashrate on pool website.

On an unrelated note, are we going with compact blocks or thin blocks? Or Xtreme thin blocks (brought to you by Mountain Dew)?

At what point in the RingCT rollout would an FFS proposal for more manpower speed up multisig implementation?

Well someone else was wondering the same thing and made a detailed post in the Monero forum about this just yesterday.  There is a reply by fluffypony.

https://forum.getmonero.org/6/ideas/86987/multisig

Heh, great minds think alike!   Cool

But lack of multisig is a serious barrier to Monero adoption, and I'm not talking about DNMs (where most tx are reportedly 'finalized early').

I get fluffy's point that the bleeding edge cryptography involved needs to be bulletproofed (or at minimum peer reviewed) before being implemented and put into production.

But since XMR's multisig piggybacks on RingCT, and RingCT is being already being tested, why not make sure the version of RingCT being tested is in fact capable of supporting multisig?

Of course we can't simply throw money at the problem to get it done faster, but is there anything additional resource allocation could do to expedite the process?

Or do we have to wait until RingCT is solid, then build multisig on that foundation?
