Again: We can't update the OP as we like with only having 1 single person as a moderator. Thats why we moved the overview to the official blog. If we now add information on the OP, people will be demotivated to go to the overview blog, because they "already found information". I hope you understand this decision Smiley

I do.

But I think at least not putting this in the OP is a bad idea as people who are new will glance at the OP and assume there is nothing new about NEM.

I humbly suggest adding this to the OP: "NEM has a 100% original codebase and over 70 team members". That way new people who are learning about NEM will think "Wow that's actually something entirely new and what a large dev team I want to check it out!", instead of now reading about NEM on the OP and thinking "hmm looks like another clone coin".

Again, I'm just a marketing professional and I know this would be the best thing to do, but I'm not angry or anything that it isn't like that right now Wink

EDIT: Also the OP should have XEM in the title so people who are searching for XEM on bitcointalk find this thread also Wink

Yes I totally agree with this.

Having all the info on the site so multiple people can update makes sense.

But you need to tease them to click through, give them a taste to want more.

Highlighting the team, # of developers, POI will give them incentive to find out more ...

There are no allegations directed at OkayNow but, given the history of con jobs in cryptos, it is recommended to refrain from donating XEM to him until he implements a cosigned address with a trusted member of the community
Let me answer that non-allegation with a non-allegation. Judging by  your past, and the allegations against you by far too many people on this forum, it is kinda funny for you to imply that "although there is nothing wrong, don't trust this guy".

There is no need to trust me with funds, users can follow the giveaway and donate to newcomers themselves, as it is stated in the announcement you quoted.

Just to be clear.
it should be noted that he [OkayNow] is not an official part of the NEM development team, nor will any of the funds given to him be overseen by the NEM development or marketing team.

The above statement is true, i am not a member of the development team, and the Core Team/Dev team/Marketing team has absolutely no oversight in the funds. This is a community driven project, completely independent by the "NEM Central HQ".
More importantly, the giveaway is sponsored by funds coming from my private stake along with donations by community members.

All funds held by the official NEM team are always held in multisig by at least 4 trusted members of the NEM team.

I have statements from 3 members denying to use PGP to secure themselves, and one of them saying that PGP signatures can't prove anything. Who would trust a person to secure anything if he can't grasp basic principles? My healthy paranoia does not allow me to do so.
I encourage others to stop relying in the central guidance of the Core Team and do their part for NEM. An active community is the only way for NEM to move forward.

Time after time in crypto computers are often hacked or passwords compromised.  This story is one we are all tired of in crypto and is one that I hope NEM can avoid, so as I security precaution I would encourage OkayNow to put the funds already donated to him in multisig with other trusted and known community members.
The above statement is also true. Keep in mind that time after time, when these hacks occur, they tend to happen within the various "Core Teams", or "asset managers".

Let me close by saying this: It is a foolish act to bring this confrontation in here. NEM can only lose by such confrontations, especially in an environment like BTT.

You are essentially saying that every and any individual that wants to help NEM can only do that by trusting the Core Team, how smart is that?

Pretending that the so called "core team" is some sort of "untouchables", while they are using their sockpuppets to downvote a giveaway they disagree with is beyond reason.

I encourage you to publish the giveaway held in the NEM Community subreddit as far and wide as you can, so that all of NEM can benefit from it.

Publish the giveaway on the NEM facebook page, use the NEM twitter account and put up a link over at the "official Core Dev Team" subreddit pointing towards the NEM Community subreddit thread announcing the giveaway.

I also encourage users to do so themselves on their facebook pages, twitter accounts, G+ or whatever social media it is you are using.
The more exposure NEM receives, the faster the community will grow.

The NEM Community subreddit proudly presents:
The First XEM Reddit Giveaway:

The NEM community subreddit is hosting an off-site giveaway at www.reddit.com/r/nem to celebrate the launch of NEM and to give new users the chance to get their hands on their first few XEM and play around with it while at the same time promote XEM to users not affiliated with crypto.

The rules are simple:

1) Your reddit account must be older than 1 month.

2) Your XEM account must be empty. This giveaway is meant to give you your first coins.

3) Make a XEM meme or a post about XEM  in a forum or webpage NOT associated with NEM or cryptocurrencies.

4) The post you will link must be made at a time after this post

5) Post a reply in www.reddit.com/r/nem giveaway thread containing a link to your post or meme, your XEM address and a couple of words about your idea of what XEM is..

Welcome to XEM! Enjoy Your stay!!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

XEM holders that want to help with the giveaway can donate some XEM to the NEM community subreddit support address:

  • NASMKE-QD226L-EAQSKL-IWU7WD-UF637B-BLHFLU-FJVP
or donate to users straight from your accounts.

This giveaway is sponsored by members of NEM community and the NEM community subreddit
Thank you for your support.

tweet and share the giveaway, do your part to help NEM grow organically.

If I have a server that I've installed and started nem (NIS) on. And then remote connect to that server from my main pc (NCC) and login to my wallet I get this message.

Quote
You're trying to boot a node xxx.xx.x.x

Booting remote node is currently impossible from within NCC.

How can I auto boot a node without putting my private key as a bootkey on the server with NIS?

How can somebody tell anything about a project, if there are ZERO information in the OP, but telling that the information is here: http://blog.nem.io/overview
I don't get it.

I humbly suggest adding this to the OP: "NEM has a 100% original codebase and over 70 team members".
Well yes, I guess this could go below the link to the overview.

I agree, I will talk to the person, who is able to change the OP.

Thanks for your ideas Smiley

Thank for the tip. Will soon be able to make the necessary updates.

apart from the fact that NEM is taking that route, I don't think it is

Well, this is how it looks for a guy from outside. I may be wrong.

Well the thing is, at first almost all projects look the same to the outside observer. This is precisely why Nxt was almost indistinguishable from its rather unfit competitors at the beginning. Indeed, Nxt turned out to be a black swan of sorts for most people observing it, thought I'm not entirely sure it was the same black swan for the people working on it.

Anyway, what actually happens is that after some time, things which were mostly invisible to the outsider are gradually revealed. That's when it becomes suddenly obvious that projects are qualitatively different. I guess it will be the same with NEM, things should speak for themselves at some point.

You may indeed be, but the fact is that NEM needs an identity / USP........much of NEMs identity right now seems to rely on not being Nxt and having a 'fair' distribution, but that won't keep people interested for very long. Especially given the way that some crypto investors expect profits to magically appear after 2 or 3 days.....

What is NEM ? Answers on a postcard, please, to.....

As I said before, I think the beginning can be especially misleading, much more so for these kind of projects. The safest bet in such cases is to bet on the people working on the project, this is why I'm betting on NEM.

I agree with Dave that NEM needs a better job of not only figuring out its identity and spreading that message.

I also would like to remind everyone that we are less than a week from Nemesis.  Most coins don't even have a good wallet at this point.

We have a team of 70 people working hard as Pat said and a team of amazing core devs.  I expect in the weeks and months to come that we can really start to fully find our identity and message and be able to present NEM better.  Another thing that should be mentioned is all 70 of these people are volunteers who have worked all the way up to the point for free and many of us even spending money out of our own pockets.  That is a pretty huge deal.

I followed several cryptocommunities and I see that NEM goes the same route. And the result will be the same if you don't stop for a moment and revise the plan. What unique does NEM have that the others didn't? Emphasize these very points. I'm not talking about cool tech, Nxt clearly showed that 99% of us don't care about tech progress.

Maybe it's because I'm tired but I actually aggre with you on that (apart from the fact that NEM is taking that route, I don't think it is).
Most cryptos focus on tech, tech and tech. Solid tech is needed but adding every feature in the book just to have it is bullshit. We need to do what's necessary to gain adoption and to make people realize that NEM isn't meant to be just another crypto.

Cfb's comment is also valid.  I especially like hearing from developers of past coins reflect on how new devs should go forward.  I value feedback based off of rare experience.

I think we need to find something unique that speaks to our user base and get that message out.

I didn't read all 800 pages of the thread, but could someone explain (or link me to info) about building POI score?

It sounds like part of it is about holding at least 10,000 XEM for at least 48 hours. And part of it is about sending and/or receiving amounts to various different addresses. Are there other ways to realize a higher POI score as well?

I'm sure this has already been answered somewhere, so a link about it would be fine.

Thanks, and let's move to this new economy! It is very exciting!

What does the "Due by (hours)" field do in the "Activate delegated harvesting" window? Is it fine if it's on 1?
