Got it. How will stake work for coins in paper wallets? Just import private key and open it every 29 days? Can you import the same private key more than once?

Hmm, that's a good question.  I would assume that to stake you would have to import the private key to an online wallet.  Once it is imported, I don't believe you can delete it.  You've basically put it online at that point.

Paper wallets may not be eligible for staking...  I found an article regarding this for Peercoin.  It is below.  To summarize, the answer is no because the purpose of PoS is to further secure the network.  It is not intended to be just for interest, it is a security protocol that requires online wallets.

http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?PHPSESSID=krr4ht2ft28ib3agpg5bje7662&topic=2467.msg20538#msg20538

The purposes of minting, isn't just to reward holders of Peercoin and create coins.

It's primary purpose is using an algorithm other than proof-of-work to solve blocks, and bundle blockchain transactions together.

With paper wallets, cold-locked offline wallets, they could not solve blocks while they are in that state. The only thing they can do, is accrue coin-age for when the wallet comes back online.

So if anyone is hoping a paper wallet or cold-locked offline wallet can earn coins, simply for existing, that could never come true.  Something has to be online to give the network a heartbeat and process transactions.  Right now it is both MINTERS and MINERS who are online, and actively contributing to the network's heath.

So your v1 client is dead. Reports Fatal Error closes before it loads. How am I suppose to swap coins with a dead wallet??? Id like my coins back!!!!

MrData will likely see this and be able to help you.  You could also send him a PM.  Worst case, if you send him a copy of your wallet.dat file and your v2 address, he can do the swap for you.

Just to double check, have you downloaded the latest copy of v1's 0.8.99.9?  This version adds additional checkpoints to the v1 block chain that fix an issue that was caused by an attack on the network a week, or so, ago.  The link is on http://www.was.club/ or the OP.

Yes, make sure you are on the latest version. If you have a corrupt file causing crashes you can delete everything from your data folder except wallet.dat and wearesatoshi.conf and let the client redownload the blockchain. If it still crashes your wallet.dat is probably corrupt, if you send it to me I can try to recover it for you.

I think he's been mining the old chain and have mixed coins that's why the wallet crashes. See his previous posts.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised. If it causes problems that the client can't automatically recover from I'll still be glad to try to salvage the wallet.dat for him.

Is "setgenerate true" not available in the v2 wallet console?
A coin designed for CPU/GPU mining should have this functionality.

If enough people want it I'll see if I can add it in, until then there are CPU miners available at http://wiki.darkcoin.eu/wiki/Mining_Darkcoin#Mining_Programs
With a CPU you'll probably get 300-500 k/hash.

Is that a hard fork change, or just a maintenance revision?  If it's hard fork, I would say it's not worth it right now.  We've already got too many versions floating around!

Just thinking out loud, but...

Wouldn't it be nice to have a screensaver that would cpu mine when you were away?

(of course it would need to run under Xscreensaver to be of any value.  Grin )

So with setgenerate you might only get 1/10 of that unless we specify the number of threads. Even though it probably won't generate any coins dues to difficulty. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
