In an earlier post someone mentioned “phoenix coin”.

It started me thinking about whether or not its possible to do a rebrand without everyone loosing what they already have.

I don’t know if you can change the name and identity and still keep everyone’s coins intact? i.e. will the exchanges allow for a different name but same coin? – again, I’m not a Dev just a designer/marketer. If that is not possible, then I DO NOT suggest a rebranding. But if it is possible then I think we should and here is why:

  • Currently the name Silk Coin is tainted - The community will support it and some others but it's important to separate ourselves from the negativity so others will give it a second look.
  • The name of the coin is not only tainted but even if it had gone on with no problems it still reminds people of Silk Road and all the negative aspects that came from that. Its going to be hard for a lot of professional people to get behind it.
  • We have the opportunity to really make something more than just a “coin recovery”/community take-over out of this but rather an amazing story.

From a marketing angle, there are so many reasons to rebrand. - again, as long as it does not cause the community to lose everything.

I don’t think “Phoenix Coin” is the answer, its too long of a name to be memorable and its somewhat cliché. – no offense intended because I think the name was on the right course it was just too long, too many syllables. I also think currencies with the word “coin” in them are way over done now and get lost in the mix. Silk had a lot of potential to be more than another “Coin".

I looked for a name that had some deep meaning, was short enough to have the whole name in the ticker symbol for better branding (5 characters in length) but still held the idea of “Phoenix Coin”.

I came up with concept of “Pheno” – it is a play off the word “Phoenix” but also has the following meanings as a prefix:

From Google Definitions:

Derived from Benzien

Creative Interpretation – “Pheno is derived from something that became toxic

Wikipedia about “Pheno-types - the "Showing" part of the defenition.” - “…the composite of an organism's observable characteristics or traits… …results from the expression of an organism's genes as well as the influence of environmental factors and the interactions between the two…:

Creative Interpretation"Pheno, the rebirth of Silk, has been caused by negative “environmental” factors but is now the expression of the community’s genetic make-up and interactions. It is our aim to continue a promising technology but also “showing” what is possible when altcoin communities band together for a better purpose. ”

Symbolism:

1.   An upward moving Ticker mark
2.   Opposing sheets of folding Silk - Thought is was important to keep references to "silk" in.
3.   An interpretation of a Phoenix
4.   Smoke
5.   Launching upwards
6.   A coin “represented by the outer circle”

I think changing what Silk is while telling a positive story will really help with marketing but for me it would also just be great in and of itself to turn this into something amazing and positive regardless of who pays attention.

@bholzer , @Arteleis, @BadAss.Sx and everyone on the Trello boards are doing an amazing job so I hope no one feels I’m stepping on any toes here. I’ve been in branding and marketing for a long time and wanted to assist in the way I know how.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT THIS IS BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good god man this is amazing branding!!!

Guys we have to use this!!!!!

Brilliant, pure brilliance!!!

I am getting pretty tired of the overuse of "coin" in this ecosystem. I think a rebranding and step away from this naming method would do us good.

My thoughts then go on to the Grand Bazaar, which is a cool name for a decentralized marketplace. I think that taking influences from the past and incorporating them with the new would bring added benefits. Distancing ourselves from "scam coin" would be a smart bet.

About rebranding:

Yes, guys, who talk about SilkCoin name known from bad side (scam, weird dev etc). But SilkCoin sounds great. Everyone likes funny camel, everyone likes tempo of SilkCoin. If we really want to rebrand it will be cool to use something closer. Maybe CamelCoin (Silk still better yeah)?
BrianJaye, friend you done amazing work. I like it, nice images and logos.

Also nice point to dancing from anonymous Bazaar, not from coin. Coin is not innovation. But suitable decentralized anonymous market it is!
I am web developer, I can help to develop backends on node.js. If we can gather dev team, we can create marketplace with web access by local address (localhost/127.0.0.1) and make very pretty and usable market in a browser, which works with our coin.

Again I am supporter of the idea to make all things from scratch, but with old community.

I came home a couple hours ago and  realized that many of the things that i had mentioned in my previous presentation (for the old  SilkCoin devs) would be kind of  irrelevant at this moment.

And so i sat down and started making a new one, it is going to  offer solutions about issues that i thought would be more important at this moment.

However  it is common sense that within a community people would have different concerns, so would you please mention yours preferably in layman's terms.

Edit: Holy coins good job  BrianJaye, that looks really good.

Adding all the Trello Requests.  I like Pheno - but is a whole different coin.

Can you get to making a new silkcoin logo and work on the bazaar branding?  It follows along with the story of what happened here. camel - attacked by raiders, still made it to the bazaar....

K I'm off until later.  Anyone else interested in joining the board, pm me.

Anybody that has just signed up, please add your member id to the card(s) you can help with and get some discussion going!

Bholzer was shooting on early next week for the full client update,  (praised by holy angels!) and we should look forward to the bug fix for mintpal and bittrex around the same time (although don't quote me on that - but would assume the client fix would include the api fix)

Currently beyond that what I think we need is..

1. NEW LOGO!
2  New ticker. - easy fix.  SLK - anybody know the process of changing the ticker? I'm only assuming that it is a minor thing to change.
3. Crowdfunding preparation - note the card on trello - please add your member id to the card
4. Donations are now accepted at badass.sx escrow
BTC:
https://blockchain.info/address/1SiLkm9SWbzQnqzyG1D2iW52sp9W3DB8q

SC:
http://explorer.silk-coin.com/address/BQLUqZZHD2R9jFRqQp4gVrxJgAkcjzCb3u
5. Decisions and start about websites (NEED NEW LOGO)  - we currently have two domains ready for production from Badass.sx - silkcoin.nl and mafort1469 - silkcoin.us

Really need new logo and branding around SLK - and The Grand Bazaar to get the websites production on the move!
@brianjay - I really love the work you have done with pheno!  Can you put that into the new ticker, logo and arabian style branding with the Grand Bazaar. Please... I did drool after seeing your work.   I still support slk.... just not sc..  Grin

Thanks for the add on Trello. I hope to contribute in the best way I can. If anyone needs proof-reading/grammar checking for important documentation/posts I would be glad to help.

Apologies, before I made a mistake and I wrote in the other thread. Please, I have just a question: is the total amount of silkoin 110 millions? Already mined, right?

The total amount will about 45 mil within the foreseeable future.  With a little less than 43,200,000 mined.  The rest will be created with POS.  In theory there will be no limit.

I dont feel rebranding is really necessary, and the original term for silk road was never anything to do with illegal activity, it was an ancient trade route, if we are starting the grand bazaar, then i think the name "silk" should stay, perhaps coin could be dropped though, im getting tired of all the "coins"

Perhaps Silk Crypto would be a better name?
IDK, but i think the camel, etc should all stay, i dont think pheonix coin is really necessary.
