Anyone got any ideas? - Just got two hooked up today, one works fine, this one wont start hashing..

A note. Due to lack of PCI-e plugs I have only connected them to two of 4 ports on each S3..

Also the time seems off. I'v had it sit for 2 hours and every time i check it max says its been running for a couple of mins..

maybe wait longer than 12s...sometimes it starts slow (but not THAT slow, though).
check if you pcie connectors are connected well (latched on), they are a little tight to get in properly in some cases.
maybe go to <system> and reboot

Should we all change the thermal paste on our miners? Should I go buy some before my miners arrive?

Noooooo (re prerequisite), I say that it is more likely that you mess something up rather than help yourself (on average).
Buy paste (just in case if you have a real problem)-it's $7.8/4g (MX-4 at amazon), or GC-extreme-$10

Hi, how is this possible??:

Just 218.5 stock freq --> 440 GH/s

batch 4, and barely makes noise. So thats impossible.

Other S3 i have even with OC are 2900 / 3000 revs

I did. As I said, I'v had it running for a long time (like 4 hrs+) already with no hashing going on. I'll check the connectors as soon as I can get there physically Smiley

Try a FW flash and reset - then physically check the miner if it's still not working (cables, thermal paste). If nada - contact Bitmain, may be a bad controller.

Just tried that, no luck im afraid. Gonna check physicall connections next.

No price drop...interesting. Batch one was Only 0.69 after refund.  What a deal compared to the current prices!

S3 sales slowing down or production ramping up?

I don't know about the production, but you can bet the sales are slowing down. Counting current diff increase trend 0.66 BTC per miner may very likely never been mined out of them. Probably expect serious BTC miner price reduction for Batch #7.

Haha, wrong sir!

yeah with the flat diff jumps price drops are not much.  but of all my s-3's the batch 1 are the slowest around 430 at freq 212

The issue is likely due to NTP problems like S1and S2 have...poor firmware  based on old buggy firmware and outdated cgminer
check the status/overview tab on miner does it show the correct time and uptimes?
If you hit save and apply on miner configuration then check miner status after 1 minute what is happening?
It is a known bug that the miner can show improper uptime/system time which results in wrong hashrate avg readings/etc which can only be fixed by hitting apply on miner config page...cold boot the problem is much worse always have to restart cgminer process

BITMAIN when are we going to get a proper firmware for S3...there are reports of July28 firmware on units but nothing posted on the site and many bugs...can you stop focus on selling new units and fix the problems with batch 1-6 first

P.S. the 10% "discount" for lost hashrate did not even come close to compensate...perhaps for 1 day of mining...how does a continual 10% less output justify a 10% drop in purchase price? S3 owners from batch 1-3 should be getting more coupons or something....this is just not right by any means as if you calculate to have say 4.78TH and end up with 4.41TH hmmmm on a daily basis that adds up to  Huh Roll Eyes at least fix the firmware so we can have a chance to ROI

Interesting. If it's shipped Aug 20th, it means starting mining Aug 23-25th. Type that in any calculator as a starting date with 10% difficulty increase and tell me if the miner will return 0.66 BTC.

10% difficulty increase?!? You wish man.  Next one will be at least 20-25% possibly higher....

30 mil hash came into the network right after last difficulty adjustment.  I agree next difficulty will be in the 20-25% range if not higher.

Also, besides the 30 mil added it looks like more then usual small network hash is getting added.  The 30 mil bumped us up to 169 right after ( 7 mil more was added since that spike )

I was going to buy some more s3, but looks to me like something new is coming or private placement deal is going on withs oem big manufacturer.  The price staying at .66 btc is not staying in line with bitmain customers at least having a chance to get ROI like in the past.

I for one am holding off on getting any additional s3 units without a coupon ( Not happy bought 12 units and no coupons ) or a significant price reduction.

Edit-  I was being conservative with 20-25% projected next dif increase.  This abnormal spike in network  hash right after last difficulty adj could bring is well well above even 25%.  Will see...

right now block rate is 8.8 minutes not 10 minutes.  that means 12- 14 %   not close to 20%.

clock the block rates  if we stay at 8.8 minutes  we need to increase 13.6 % to go back to 10 minutes.

8.8 x 1.136363 = about 10  .  If the rumor that cex.io added a monster center in iceland is real that was the big jump.  we won't add much from now on.

Oh wow, now that comes unexpected! I really was hoping for a nice price drop on Batch 7 based on current ROI calculations. That should make it pretty much impossible to sell any of these to Europe, because with a best price offer for energy in my country at 0.11 EUR ~ 0.15 USD excl. VAT = 0.13 EUR ~ 0.18 USD incl. 20% VAT it will not going to reach ROI.

Which makes me want to ask, if anybody here has coupons left which he for sure is not going to use by himself and willing to donate. I'm not going to be able to get a few ants for myself under these conditions otherwise. Sad
