It creates a coil like that, and inductive currents can blow both ends. I mean the miner controller + the rooter.

Wow, rly ? U think there is enough inductive current to blow something ? What u think how long cable needs to be ? And do u have some actual proof that did happen to somebody ?
Only asking coz i do internet networks setup, left cables like that if they are to long many times .
Dont worry about it. While in theory current is induced, it is soooo low u cant really measure it.

You get like 12V / 1A from induction when hanging a huge coil below a 10000V landline.

So yeah, the odds that a meteorite would crash into your home is probably higher than you blowing anything out because of induced electrical currents.

Yeah that is what i thought so Cheesy . I know in theory it can happen but, i mean that like 10m of UTP cable cant do no harm.

You have no idea how a thunder can screw you by inductive fields.
Happened to my shop last year, all cameras, printers and fax, usb sides on pcs got blown by a thunder hit a mile away.

I dont care if you dont do your research, it is your equipment do as you wish.

ps. Micro, you are an expert in network setups, huh? Do you have some actual proof?   Grin

Um... They would all probably get blown even if ur cables are short and straight Smiley ?

ps. I never said im an expert Smiley . Did i ? I just do some smaller network setups when there is need for that, not an expert in that area.

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

Can you guys just skip to the end of this eFight/argument/disagreement/whatever and agree to disagree instead of clogging this thread up with word vomit instead of rig pics?

I can only assume you mean lightning. thunder is a bunch of sound waves with virtually zero effect on electronics.  lightning should have no effect unless it somehow messed with your grounding - a coiled lan cable will not cause issues. its pretty common to coil cables if they are longer than necessary.

that said, some cable types and data types (looking at you, analog) can suffer a little bit of crossfeed if there are too many wires in an area. However, this shouldnt be an issue for a Cat5+ cable

24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and stripped ends - great for server PSU mods, best prices https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461

Thank you for your clarification, I meant lightning and not thunder, English is not my native language.

As about coiling , as I said before do as you wish , it is your equipment.

I give up.

... Ethernet cables contain twisted pairs, and the minimum standards make your comment utterly nonsense.  You shouldn't run Ethernet cables along a power line, but coiling an Ethernet cable cannot hurt anything.

As suggested above, maybe lightening could cause some issues... but that's the lightening causing a problem, not the fact you coiled up an Ethernet cable.

WOW!
All you guys with lots of expensive rigs.
I'm just a poor hobbist trying to make a couple of extra $$.
My pile of U1/U2/U2+ isn't photo ready yet, I have a new heat sink for those.  I'm calling it my "Ant Farm."  I'll post pics of the heat sink that I have.
Here's my single S1 in a case I built for it.  Added a pull fan to the back, tested power supplies in various positions for cooling, they seem to like being back-to-back on their sides
There will be hinged cover on the back soon but I wanted to at least test to see if the airflow was going to work right.
First pics are on the bench while testing power supplies, installing heat sinks, and testing overclocking.
Unit is overclocked to 393.75 and with the cheapie power supplies, draws just a little over 470W when hot.  Draws 460W when cool.

Not sure about total cost at this point.
S1 was $375, power supplies were $28 each, heat sinks were a cost but not sure what the breakdown is, the second fan and grille are salvage, the plywood is salvage, the watt meter cost $16, the U1/U2/U2+ cost anywhere between $40 when I started to $18 each for the last batch.
The Anker hubs probably cost about $40 each.
Again, unknown cost of heat sinks for all the chips on 18 of them.
Huge heat sink was free.  Salvaged from an old UPS.  The hold-downs I'm making are also free aluminum scrap bits that I've cut down to use.  The fan and covers for the heat sink are all going to be free salvaged materials as well.

Part of this is the fun of doing something that actually makes a few $$ back in return.
With the S1 in the loop, I've made back 2/3 of its cost in less than a month.

I plan to resistor mod and get a decent boost out of the U1/2/2+ setup once mounted to the new heat sink.

The S1 does a pretty reliable 200GH/s and the U1/2/2+ do a reliable 38GH/s.
Other than putting a back panel on the S1 and maybe painting it's case, I'm done with that.

The real project is getting the Ant Farm done in the next few days.

Of course, I can never leave well enough alone.  Just bought a Gigampz board and a $17 HP power supply.  Cost comes up equal to the two cheaper supplies and is supposed to provide 800+ Watts depending on 115/240VAC connection.  It's also supposed to be more efficient, so I hope that its around 400 watts.  This should also be able to easily power the Ant Farm with a 12VDC to 5VDC adapter.

Thank you for your clarification, I meant lightning and not thunder, English is not my native language.
As about coiling , as I said before do as you wish , it is your equipment.
I give up.

No, I am sorry, it does not end there... You do not understand, and are disseminating BULL SHIT with your ill informed knowledge. Please cease your postings until you do some actual research of your own.

WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU?!? to 1# Tell me, what I should do in my own damn cabinet. 2# Dare to judge someone and ask them if they "are an expert in network setups, huh?", 3# Have the nerve to say "I dont care if you dont do your research, it is your equipment do as you wish. ...  Do you have some actual proof?" when you have not provided a single proof or link to information that backs up the crap that is pouring out of your finger when typing your shit.

Grin

tzortz; Please post 1 link that backs up your claim in the thread I have started above.

When i saw that post i was just like wtf, what is he talking about that sounds not even remotely possible Cheesy .
But i asked , and i clearly said to give me some proof or story on the internet that somebody said that happened to him.

But he ignored that and went straight to ask me to give proof that im expert in network setups Cheesy lol .
I never even said im an expert, not even close Cheesy .

So yeah bit out of balance posts by him but, rly no need to be upset about it man . I hear some bs every day from some people that have no idea what they are talking about, so i got used to it Cheesy .
Cheers.

Now lets get back to this awesome thread, i rly enjoy seeing this awesome setups. And kinda collecting money to do small one on my own.

Well now that that's over, back to the matter at hand...  Grin

This is a GPU rig I'm building (and will use for more than just mining) but for some reason when I add the 3rd GPU cgminer can't find it for OpenCL on the ADL monitoring works.  The next 2 slots open are both x8 and the 3rd x16 is hidden under the right GPU (nice design of the board) but it says it supports 4 Way CrossFire.  I'm going to try Windows today right now it's Xubuntu... with the 2 GPUs it hashes at 7GH/s on Blake256....

With about 90% S1/S2 and other "bigger" stuff here I think it's time to post a U2+ related thing once in a while...
Disclaimer: This is not a "productive" rig yet - it's just for messing around, gaining knowledge and getting started. Right now I have 9 U2+ sticks (oc'ed they run fine on 2.2 Gh/s als long as they get enough juice and cooling) - the pic below has only 6 of them running. Host-hardware is an older Atom board (taken from a 1st Gen. MSI Wind PC, 1.6Ghz Dual Core Atom). I also have a raspberry pi but I wanted a full fledged Linux distri to also run a node with the block chain on it so I wanted to try this route (again; this is more like for messing around and not for lowest power impact). OS is Puppy Linux on a USB stick (Precise, might switch over to an LXDE one later on), that's just a temporary solution until I've decided which one of these to choose; SD/CF/SATA-DOM or mPCIe SSD. I guess I'll have the full setup up and running in 1 week from now (with all U2+ sticks and with the blockchain node).

Originally I got 7 x R9 290x's and I was going to mine Litecoin back in Nov. Dec. until I realized how much power 7x300 watts was.  So I decided to just build a machine and I can mine on and do other things with.  If I can get all 4 GPUs in on the motherboard to work with OpenCL I'll probably liquid cool them since air cooling wouldn't really work with 4 right next to each other.

The "case" is an in-win D-Frame

http://www.inwin-style.com/en/goods.php?act=view&id=D-Frame

I bought from NewEgg through I think the "limited edition" is now out of stock.
