Okay, I am starting to think 1.114 USD is the new botnet clearing price.  The USD stability support is back.

On the 3d MACD, we see 5 'filled' bars during the consolidation periods (5*3 days = 15 days).
If this pattern continues, I expect the next spike to be between 0.004883 (40%) and 0.005232 (50%)

No idea if this means anything at all though :p

I'm starting to think there will be another leg up next 36 hours and another one 24 hours later - both on BTC/USD and BTC/XMR. A lot of XMR were bought from asks last month and those people are not selling lower then the current price. With a lot of new people interested in Monero last month we are not going down this time. Do not take this as a trading advice - this is just a feeling and with just two or three bear whales present I could easily be wrong.

Your feeling is probably true. I'm also very interested in Moreno and small portion is already bought on Bittrex. But i have bitter taste in the mouth ,like a fool, i had a chance to buy at 100k and i didn't!
But i believe this will go same as DASH this time.

I draw your attention to this post and you may want to comment on my stated perspective:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1393703.msg14162127#msg14162127

Regarding Monero, while the price has been somewhat weak over a two year period (as you say, whatever the reason, there was certainly an unsustainable pump early on), the market cap is now well into the all-time-high zone. That is not something you see much (if ever) with two-year-old coins, other than Bitcoin.

I just clicked through every single older coin in the top 10 (ignoring the unseasoned ones such as Ethereum, Factom and Maidsafe). Not a single one other than Monero is anywhere near its market cap peak.

The same applies to all of the top 20, with the exception of FedoraCoin (TIPS) which has had an insane pump recently. What is going on there?

Namecoin and Peercoin are being pumped because of BTC-e margin trading program they started.

When the price was 0.001 there was general apathy in the community. An apathy is distracting money and therefore you did not feel like Monero was a good buy.
Now as the price has gone up, the community has resurrected from the dead and is in fire, and unlike previous time, I think Monero will go higher this time (just my speculation) due to the fact that most of coins have been mined (I am excluding the minimal inflation which will tarry on after 18.4 million coins have been mined out from the ground).
The fact is, now Monero is becoming like a rare earth metal, you need really work hard to be able to mine a few since the block reward is taking hit daily yet the price is still somewhat depressed.
Monero is mined now around with the same percentage as bitcoin but bitcoin costs 420 usd and Monero 1.5 usd. Some people might see this as a disappointment but personally I am seeing it as Monero being severely underpriced and therefore potential to create wealth. When you invest 1 usd into Monero it benefits the whole community and the welfare effect is thus pretty large due to increased marketcap of Monero. From the point of view of the buyer, he is better off because someone else will also invest 1 dollar (or any amount he can afford) and increase your and other's welfare + you are creating yourself a safe haven with anonyminity.
When XMR is worth marketmaking, I will also start giving simultaneous buy- and sell prices so that if someone wants to sell or buy he can do so without too much affecting the marketcap and other people's welfare. However, Monero is still in infancy state and marketmaking (read: selling Moneros because that is the market making in Monero pretty much due to the fact that everyone is buying it like crazy this days and I cannot blame them) is too risky - it is too easy to run out of Moneros.

Dear Risto,
could you be so kind to reevaluate your calculations from April 2015. I think it would be interesting to see what happens to thos assumptions with nearly a year more of MONERO  Grin Shocked

I second this request.

Bitcoin similarly spiked after the first exchange.

I observe that, if you disinclude the listing spike, in USD terms, the recent highs were in fact all-time highs.  (Mentioned since the ATH is so fetishized.)

For the love of God can some exchange please let me buy XMR with US Dollars.  I mean really, I hate Bitcoin transaction speeds.  Over an hour now to transfer BTC from Coinbase to HitBTC.   Another reason Bitcoin is falling behind not enough nodes out there to process payments or transactions faster.   Ok rant over.

Actually, that would not speed transactions because the same average number of blocks would be found per hour.

What you really are ranting about is block size...

More generally, a simple, private method for xmr <-> Fiat conversion would be a killer feature.

. FWIW be careful with hitbtc.  I have had coins locked up over there for days before.

Really?  I have never had any problems but I'll be cautious.  Never had any transaction over $100 USD with them.  So were you able to recover your funds or did they finally process?

Kraken seems to be the one most people suggest to harass for a XMR-USD pair.  I put my 2 cents in their suggestion box.  If we all do the same, it could lead somewhere. ..
Even if they only did XMR-XBT it would eliminate the bitcoin transfer delay.
