I'm such an idiot. I bought into this suckers rally. Is it going back to $12 or is this part of a bigger movement?

Wish there was more price speculation and less discussion of 0s/2 warp :-(

Buy a little.  If it goes up, buy a little more.  If it goes down, buy a little more.  If it goes down a lot, buy a lot  Cheesy

Curious, what makes someone a whale? 10,000 xmr ?

I would call 1% of the current supply a whale, so around 110,000 XMR.

Whale definition fluctuates with the price, if Monero shoots above $5, 0.1% is pretty much a whale

Less than .1% has the potential to make someone extremely wealthy IF Monero can achieve its objective of establishing an important privacy hub.

I predict that in 10 years .1% of Monero will either be worth close to zero or be enough to retire on. Failure may be more likely but the potential reward is so great that the risk appeals to me.

Interesting thoughts.. I completely agree

You two! Still going on. Funny as it is I dont see much relevance to Monero and its future. This is an organically growing open source project. I dont think it shares much analogy with the wide and wonderful alleged comparisons stated. Read 'the black swan' and understand that events well outside any strategy or marketing efforts will probably make or break Monero. Its build so there is a chance that 'they will come' Thats about it. As to reminiscing: I coded in the early 80's using commodore basic on a vic 20. Bought a math copro to make an 8086 into an 8088 as certain software using loads of floats would benefit. Ran with rll hdd's slower than my internet connection now by some factor. Relevant to Monero? Dont think so.
OS2? NT? CP/M? QBasic? Beta,VHS? Who fkn cares? Bit like a bicycle falling over in Beijing....

Run length limited, yup I used to replace medium frequency modulation platters with them and upgrade the 20 mb st220 to 30mb st238r IIRC. Debug ws in high use at that time. CP/M was one of the first OS's I changed to Ms-dos. Wordstar and shit what was it, ahh dbase and super something or other were the only 3 aps i had besides basic on that machine. I kind of miss those days. Smiley

As for the bolded in our defense it did start Monero related. Tongue

Still over $13, we are gonna see alot of shakeouts over the next few months I think. I'm just gonna keep buying a little each week, I don't want to see it double or more again on me when I don't have any. That was a bummer after 2 years. Lol

OS2 warp. Ah 16 floppies and then please reinsert disc 1  argggg.

Ran as a server with dos based clients around 3.10 3.11 time as I recall.

Who missed OS's on floppies ;lol

I concede. Monero was mentioned after all (;-)

As to price action: I always imagine a bank of monitors as a monster is awakening on a slab somewhere after being hit with sufficient energy. "Come up to the lab and see whats on the slab"  Many shakes. And a binary bet of note; zero or hero ! Just not the whole house please even though it looks good. Stubborn patience with opportunistic accumulation along the way.

Ah the old days. I still have an original OS2 warp German edition flying around btw lol And about 7 million floppies with slackware base and xwindows. My god todays hardware in comparison. Typing this on a $100 acer chromebook with xubuntu and 250GB ssd upgrade. What joy in responsiveness, 8 hours of battery and low low cost. I dont miss the old clunkers. Fkn around in high memory to squeeze another 5k trying to get doom to work.....what joy when it did too. hmmm mixed emotions....

So if I learn anything from that reminiscing in relation to Monero its that 'ease of use' for end users needs to still come a long way. We've just come out of having to fdisk your partitions and define the scanlines of your monitor equivalent to hmmmm? early xwindows maybe. So there is a long way to go to set forget tap pay done functionality. I had quite a lot  of issues with the blockchain reporting it is in sync when it is not quite. Transactions going into 'pending' for ages and having to flush_txpool in the daemon, runs show_transfers out and rescan_spent in the cli. I now have developed the appropriate minefield traverse methodology to calmly run everything very slowly and deliberately. And everything works. Like in the old days....But it's not quite ready for prime time just yet. Unless you are at least a bit techie you are likely going to struggle. And once money is involved, fear of loss makes operating in an uncertain environment a bit of a showstopper for most.
So we need loads of state checking, locking, error checking and clear user feedback to bring the frontend to appliance levels of usability imo.

I cant really comment on the gui as I have only compiled it once and briefly ran it but reading the various comments and calls for help from new users I assume we have similar 'user incompatibilities' to eradicate there as well.

so, theres more PRC shenanigans and the Chinese exchanges are suspending BTC withdrawls.

Going to be interesting time for alts in general and XMR in particular.

Fun times

is this when China learns about monero ?
I guess this is when Monero becomes a pump and dump Undecided? Although the Chinese government might be much harder on XMR with the anonymity it offers.

You're right. If China is trying to persecute Bitcoin then how much more on Monero. Maybe China wants to make their own crypto too where their government can control.  Angry

The marketcap of darkcoin 136 Musd, the marketcap of xmr 181 Musd. Let's keep fingers crossed the Darkcoin cannot overtake XMR... Scary times in that sense.

It's not likely anytime soon IMO.

Dash has nowhere near the volume of XMR and is already at the high end of a run.   It needs to hop up another 30% + to even match XMR.

Any significance to the extended absence of aminorex in these parts?

I think someone or some entity has intentionally painted a head and shoulders, I wouldn't read into that at all and if I were buying or selling right now I would take it as a sign of a shakeout. We've been seeing alot of these. But it also could be a real precursor for a dump so be careful here. The real thing t shows me is that this market is still hugely manipulated.

The rebranding from dark to dash seems Duffield's attempt of a disclaimer to not go near dash eg similar to fluffypony's advice ' not to buy Monero'.

Except Duffields disclaimer and advice not to invest in dash is even stronger than Fluffy's . He is suggesting by his very brand name to actually run, not walk, when you get anywhere near it eg dash.
Nomen est Omen. For me this adds to dash's fundamentals in a significant way. I will heed his advice and ignore fluffy's.

It's only a few weeks since we hit our USD ATH and went over a USD 200m market cap, meaning XMR gained over 2500% in a year.

Things can't be like that all the time.  Also bear in mind that a lot of the whole focus in crypto is on BTC. With China and the ETF both heading for a crunch point which may change everything for BTC in less than four weeks, of course it's relatively quiet with all alts*.
