Do we know the tl;dr for why it is going up?
No artificial suppression from shit centralized exchanges is my theory. This really is the only thing I can think of, too. So is kraken basically our most mainstream price oracle for Monero now? I feel like it's almost completely gone in Europe, isn't it? Kraken dropped it in those markets, I think. as well as all the other EU exchanges. There's also this interesting idea that I've always had pinging around in my head, but it's so lofty and... crazy that I've just kept it to myself. I could see it being possible that a very large entity of some sort or another could decide to use Monero as a store of value. Here's a little made-up thought experiment. Country X has decided to store an allocation of their wealth in U.S. dollars, and then after that gold, silver, and other metals, and then also after that Bitcoin, but chose to allocate a small amount in Monero just for the privacy. Okay, now that I've written that pipe dream fantasy in real life, we've probably peaked and it's only down from here. I'm sorry if I did that.

It is going up because people noticed the value in it. Monero was probably the only coin that was way, way undervalued. It is the only coin that provides full and real privacy. There isn't an alternative. None. All the alternatives either offer half-assed privacy, pseudo privacy, fake privacy or not as strong as monero in terms of hash power and decentralization. Monero simply has no alternative. It is Swiss bank in your pocket. Btc used to be called same but since govs gated every mixing service and put kyc/aml on centralized services, jailed coinjoin devs; monero is there to absorb the whole privacy market. We are only seeing the effects now and it will go higher, way higher. When monero absorbs the whole thing you'll go woooooooot
*i expect another x10 from here, this is just the beginning.
You are so 100% right. I have been mining it pretty much from day one an back then I knew if this thing doesn't break for several years - because admittedly, I am not a cryptography expert - it will have its place for sure. I had some arguments against me recently and I have a bet running, I think it was when XMR was at around $300, that XMR will go 5x before BTC will go 5x. And I repeat that! The fact alone that if BTC were to go 5x now and that XMR is already at $700, will drive XMR above $1,500 for sure. In my opinion, XMR was a relatively safe call. Crackdowns are no argument against it. Cocaine is forbidden, so what? When people seek for low friction transactions (private, cheap, secure, tamper-proof), they'll turn to XMR. ZEC is probably going to jump on the bandwagon once more, but XMR is the clear leader here imo.
Edit: additionally, I bet that all those who smartly took their profits from the ZEC pump, probably immediately put most of it into XMR because they knew this is going to be the supposed sequence of events.

ZEC went up 10x and everybody at CT was all like 'yo we're all in the privacy meta' acting like they're all cypherpunks. Lol. But then some of them prolly did their research and found out which one is the real privacy coin and the closest thing to BTC that you could ever own. So yeah, now they're all getting into it. I heard a few years ago that Chris de Rose was all in XMR since he took down his pod BTC Uncensored. That was back in 2016..? Hope he's doing well.

Oh noes! The sparkle fairy is a shitcoiner! You need to give her the Monero outfit. Lol... I guess I'll give it a shot. I just have a lot of fun messing around. I have been for over a year now with this stupid toy. Isn't this a great start of the year for those sorts of Bitcoin maxis that still hold a place for one other little coin? I might actually be able to pay my rapey property taxes this year.

I certainly have more philosophical, altruistic reasons for having been interested in monero in the first place, but I must admit, because of the need for such a thing, the only reason I put a whole bunch of money in it was I thought it might go up. Otherwise, just get some when you need it and use it, which was Fluffy's old argument a million years ago. That dude's taken off a lot of the fluff if you see any more recent pictures of him. Looks like he's been spending some of his billions on workout equipment or something. Lol.

I am here and have always been here for one reason and that for the people to be free of their financial chains. I'm sure from our interactions you have already come to that conclusion. Hell my fist big buy was during the BTCeXpress Fud attack. I literally was buying at the top trying to hold the line. I've smartened up since then and have realized there are too many grifters with far too much liquidity in the world and trying to hold them off is a fools errand.

Come on $800 !!! Been a long time since I watched a chart! Just spent 1/2 hour trying to get that fairy to wear the monero outfit and chatgpt failed miserably and I got this message. "We’re so sorry, but the image we created may violate our guardrails around potential fraudulent or scam activity. If you think we got it wrong, please retry or edit your prompt." It kept generating this. Looks like the bull is being pushed on Kucoin, I don't know anything about that exchange and looking into it it looks shady as hell. But Kraken and Bifinex are keeping up and barley trailing so must be alot of arb going on. BOOM! We touched it! I can go do shit now.

It definitely is exciting.
As to the image, if you're using one of the big AI front-ends, it may choke on you like that for no good reason really.
venice.ai is by no means perfect, but it is very much unrestricted in what you can make. If you can type a description, it will make it, at least in some of the models.
Nano-GPT is similar and takes Monero as payment. I use this one a lot. It does have some restricted models as well, but some that are much less so. And average image generation for me is pretty damn cheap, often less than a penny.
But, Grok and Google and Chat-GPT and co-pilot will get all nanny restrictive on you.
But your monero girl is pretty good! And not an idiot like the sparkle fairy, but I might try it in a minute.

Times like these make me wonder where AP/katiecharms is at these days??
Overall outlook: this is going to be a wild year. Crypto adoption becoming mainstream through the tokenization of stablecoins and assets/portfolios coming soon (fucking crazy seeing players like JP Morgan stepping into this sort of role… DATs becoming major players as well, etc.). Then you have a “squeeze” of sorts happening on silver when COMEX can’t cover paper derivatives anymore due to a serious limit of supply now since China halted exports of silver.
Now is the major realization people are having across the board if the importance of privacy… I really don’t understand why it’s sparked such interest all the sudden *now*. I can speculate of some possible reasons, but I’ve had these assumptions for *years* and never understood why people were pouring in money into, let’s say, .jpg files of cartoon monkeys vs a Swiss bank of a cryptocurrency. Ya know?
