Liking the refinements of the app, particularly the dollar/Bitcoin calculation. But how long will we need to pay for sending coins in BTC? I think for new users who will only collect gems they will find it a reason to abandon the app. can't the fee be paid in GEMS?

I presume since it's a counterparty asset and counterparty relies on the bitcoin blockchain for transaction verification the fees will always need to be paid in BTC. You could cloak it with an in app GEMZ/BTC exchange I guess.

- Where do I find the BTC/USD calculation and the other refinements, I upgraded to v2.1.11 (414) and the only difference I see is that I'm not able to send messages to anyone except my telegram friends. Trying to send messages to other GetGems users results in an error.. Do I need to file another bug report or am I just looking in the wrong place?

Assuming you have the updated version that is now on Google play. Type dollar or usd after an amount of course. Eg 1 dollar. Or 1 usd.

Having a fee needing to come out of BTC kind of defeats the whole point of the app. The idea being that this is seamless user friendly way to start using a cryptocurrency. Problem is users are going to have fund their wallet with Bitcoin to send any Gems. It looks to me like a tragic flaw until someone tells me otherwise.

It's going to be off chain soon making it zero fees, would like to know when they are going to make it off chain tho, can we get an update on that Daniel?

Next developer update will have all the info.

@Peled1986 : Why did you not add EUR, CNY, GBP and CAD If you have the BticoinAverage API working anyway, seems like very little effort to add a few lines of code? Why am I no longer able to send messages to; for example you peled1985 (this goes for all getgems users that pop up in my search and are not in my contact list already), the app either jumps back to the chat list or gives me an undefined error "An error occured"?

I agree, we will add EUR, GBP, CAD, RUB and CNY.

We pushed a few small fixes, most updated version is 2.1.14(417)

What about using getgems for paid chat sessions?

Like how Skype is increasingly being used for paid consultations with doctors, coaches, etc.

Paid chat as an easy, built-in feature (and marketed that way) might lure these professionals to the app.

Forgive me if this idea has already been discussed, but I recently read this article and it got me thinking about getgems:

Once iOS, QR-code (Pay & Receive) and additional multi-sig address link to account are up and running he'll or she'll be laughing his/her arse off at 57 even if BTC keeps its uptrend.

What do u mean by multi-sig address link to account? Can you give an example using getgems?

Well, as was suggested in earlier road map ideas, large GEMZ holders would probably not want to keep all GEMZ on the "HOT" address, the the dev team intends to allow for an additional address to be added, this address could be assiged as the address used in award calculation and other perks which are balance related. I'm not comfortable with just another counterparty address and would like this address to make use of counterwallet multi-sig functionality (once they get that to work at counterparty), so GetGems would have to be able to recognize balances on counterparty multi-sig format addresses.

Is Counterparty really that weak? Seems to me it's a safe as any other bitcoin wallet possibly more. And my 'hot' wallet doesent seem that weak either. I would have to lose my phone and not know I lost it, and someone understand GEMS know my PIN number or my long address password, so if you don't have your password on your phone it's almost impossible to know your pin in a few attempts and I beleive it shuts down after a few?

I'm not saying its weak(er) than other regular bitcoin addresses, but to weak for storage in my opinion. There is a reason multi-sig is gaining rapid ground and all wallets start working with it including counterwallet. It's pretty much already considered a standard in keeping any assets or alts safe.  Problem right now is with counterwallet is that I can put GEMZ (or any asset) in a multi-sig address but can't get them out.. counterparty tech support is looking into that.

offline armory wallets work well for me in the meantime.

@ Daniel there was a Threat on r/bitcoin with a request from Chinese users to put the apk file on websites since they don't have access to google play.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2y04ws/to_all_android_app_developers_a_request_from/

Quote
As Google Play Store is blocked in China, it is currently impossible for most people here to download your apps. So if you want to tap in to the rapidly-growing Chinese bitcoin user base, please put a direct download link for your .apk file on your website.

I've tried armory addresses a few weeks ago, then armory didn't recognize the unsigned transaction.. I've tried it again yesterday after your post and it now seems to work - to bad I need two signatures, the other addresses are counterwallet, multibit and or blockchain.info which are all still an no-go but now I'm half way there, thanks for the heads-up.

no problem, I feel your concern about keeping the majority of my GEMZ in cold storage.

what do you guys think about the Wiper app and its implementation of Bitcoin? it might be some competition for GetGems in terms of sending cryptos.

Wiper just has a higher user base, apart from that GetGems is the way to go. You can only use Wiper if you attach your fb or email account to it, i don't like to use a messenger with my Facebook account, it also has no end to end encryption and no further info on crypto implementation details another reason for me not to store my bitcoin on it.

GetGems sends bitcoin easier than Wiper too and supports Bits aswell with being Telegram compatible and has gif support, im not even talking about its upcoming reward and advertisement model. Features wise GetGems is way ahead but Wiper is more established and has more users. Also sending crypto in app is one thing but buying them is another thing which i don't know if these non tech wiper users have the incentive to do. I hope GetGems makes it easy through an option to buy gemz/btc.

Andrea M. Antonopoulos is far more interested with the possibility of Bitcoin being used on text messaging phones where billions of people are currently using very primitive cash based system of exchange were the economy is suppressed as a result of that friction and where a smartphone can represent not just a communication mechanism but a bank service window, a credit service window...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XotOwt8bTeI&t=34m4s

Is he aware of GetGems? I will tweet him when iOS, airdrop is released.
