whats going on here? dont you find the silence ridiculous?
advertising like a champ when btc price was around 500.
vanish when btc price is 420.

Well, they are pricing them in USD so I don't think btc was affected..

The problem is that since they seem to be pricing this model in USD, the cost of the units in BTC will fluctuate. For potential buyers that use BTC for their ROI guesswork (like me), fluctuations in the fiat value of BTC can affect the value proposition of the product. Plus a low fiat value of BTC means potentiality a longer ROI, or no ROI, in pure BTC terms.

Compare this to the S2 S3, which was priced in BTC. Sure people bitched about the price when it didn't go down between batches (because BTC's fiat value was going down), but at least you could look at a batch knowing the actual price, do your calculations, and decide whether to buy or not without having to worry that the ROI equation in BTC terms would change by the time you pulled the trigger.

My gut feeling is that Bitmain's careful calculations to sell a product that can just barely ROI (with them keeping the rest of the profits) have been thrown off by BTC's price tanking at an inconvenient time. They want to make a profit, clearly. But if this unit costs too much in BTC, it might not be as competitive as other products, and experienced buyers may pass on the purchase (he says, expecting the usual onslaught of "people on this forum will buy anything regardless of logic").

Thank God people think like that! Please sell your equipment! If you can only think in BTC terms then you are better shut down your machines!

I made 0.025BTC/day with 500Ghs this month! Thats 0,75BTC/month! If you know how and what to mine then the possibilities are infinite!

I agree it needs to be around .63 a GH/s and at these price levels , difficulty jumps, and electrical cost miners would still need a significant rise in the price of BTC just to break even.
that is great return,p2pool ?
really hope s4 is around lower than 1 USD per GHs

The problem is, 1 USD per GH/s is over priced..

Nope, S2 was priced in $$, S1 and S3-in BTC.

Sorry, I meant the S3. Too many S's Wink

I wonder who will buy if they give out the price now? No sane person would shell out a minimum of 3 BTC for a miner which will never ever generate this amount in it's reasonable life.
So although I am also eager to see the price and details, right now I prefer BITMAIN to hold of the release for a bit.
This of course only applies if the miner is not super cheap around 2 BTC at which point I am sure many will jump on it.

yep  but they may feel the market got shaken and selling this for 1000 usd would further hurt the market.

So they mine with it instead.  Big diff jump has happened lately.

Maybe this does 900 watts and 2th. Maybe it is a  killer piece of gear.      the s-2 did about 1.1 watts  the s-1 did 2 watts.

the s-3 does .77 watts  maybe this does .45 watts  ……  When price tanked I think they did not want to release a piece of gear that good.

They have to announce the specs and price sometime this weekend right.  I mean if they plan to ship by the end of the month they need to get on it and start taking orders.  Can't wait to see what they came up with!!!

It doesn't necessarily mean they would sell at a loss. They'd just price it higher than most people can justify. And they'll just mine for themselves if people don't want to buy.

Most (all?) ASIC manufacturers simply don't care if the public wants their product or not. It's a no-lose situation for them and a no-win situation for us.

What if the "just price it higher than most people can justify" mean a loss?
The fact that you think its a no lose situation shows you're dumber than you sound.

Bitmain would sell S4 (maybe S3s too) as GHs at their hashnest farm.

But their hashnest is too expensive, can't ROI at this rate..

That's because cost is charged in BTC and they use S2's there which are too powerhungry.

I've been eagerly hitting F5 on the Bitmain site and checking back here to see if there's any news on the S4's pricing, but nothing Sad
I suppose technically "End of the week" can be up to midnight in China on Sunday 21st September. Does seem a bit st00pid not to even release the technical specs?

At the time of writing this its 18:00 in Shenzen China, I guess we're hoping to get something even its just the specs today but as most have said I think they're holding out waiting for BTC to rise before ann9uncing the price.

If the price is too high then I'd be considering the S3's depending on how they have priced batch 10.

All in all it's not looking good Sad

They have to announce the specs and price sometime this weekend right.

I don't think it will be today, most likely Monday or Tuesday.

A couple of days ago someone in this thread (not me) posted an email from bitmaintech
the email said that they contacted bitmaintech and bitmaintech said (if I remember correctly)
something along the lines of 'hopefully sales should be early next week'.

After two minutes, that email was then deleted from this thread.
The person that posted it also copy and pasted the 'confidentiality' bit
that had words like prohibited and confidential at the bottom of the email.

"should be early next week" - means only if the BTC price pops up which is highly not going to happen

Wtf?! Don't be such an asshole, asshole!

If you had any reading comprehension skills maybe you would understand what I was saying. Here, let me try again...

Bitmain would NEVER sell S4s at a loss because... wait for it...they don't have too.

If they price the S4 so they make a healthy profit on each unit but it's too expensive for home miners, they won't sell many at retail. But they'll just mine with them or add them to Hashnest.

And remember, their costs to mine with their own equipment is much lower than home miners who pay retail and don't have access to cheap power. They will be able to run them for a very long time before they become unprofitable.
