You're looking at the wrong competitor.  Spondoolies has been overpriced from the jump.

Here's the right one:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=795477.0

Now put the numbers together....

I think it is more correct link  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=795609.0

Bitmain wouldn't sell the S4 at $1450 if BTC value was much higher.  It'd still be much higher than it's competitors are charging, and history proves this.

.

For comparison only 1 competitor:
SpondooliesTech SP20 price and shipping cost. $1,190.00+$160 (EU) +$119 (US) second half of October and no PSU only  1,7TH/s

Which one is cheaper?

if you had to pick what would you want the SP 20 or the S4… look at the resale value of the Spondoolies units vs the Bitmain units.. I use to be a die hard Bitmain fan, but its now obvious they don't want to compete they want to price fix and screw everyone… you can sugar coat it any way you want but thats the truth .. If I had to pick I would pick the Spondoolies unit hands down now because when I go to resell there is a far better chance of having a higher value that might help me get ROI even though at these difficulty level I doubt it. when you look at the life cycle of the both products Bitmain is not even in the same ball game as Spondoolies tech any more IMO … If I had the money I would have got the SP35 and called it good.

SP20, SP35 and S4 are all NOTHING BURGERS as they say on shark tank. I don't think they will ROI. Seriously, do the math and save your money. If you want miners, buy old ones from Bitcointalk.

I agree "Nothing Burgers"

all these miners will take 5 months + to ROI, and in that time you are going to have multiple jumps in difficulty. #nothingburgers

Does anybody have indication of
"cannot identify passport.bitmain.com" when trying to login.
it says "the certificate of the website is invalid. you might be connecting to a website that is pretending to be "passport.bitmain.com"

I just tried the "Advanced" "Go there anyway" and was still unable to log in with my existing Bitmain account. The website is obviously down due to the rush for everybody to get in on the S4 B1 ordering.  Wink

They might have just put that price out there to watch everyone freak out  lol

Seriously though it might have been a test to see the reaction....  I doubt it though

Now put the numbers together....

Neither will ROI, and spondoolies are loud as 100 lawn mowers so most people cant use it.
SP3x series are loud. They are designed for deployment in hosted facilities where the noise isn't a problem.

SP20 is specifically designed for home use, and Spondoolies-Tech tell us that they will be much quieter.

On a different note, it is strange that the banner ad says the S4 will be a 3U unit. I would have thought they would have stayed with the 4U chassis of the S2 to save design and manufacturing costs. Basically make the S4 identical to the S2 except with 28nm cards in the slots.

they don't seem like the kind of people to joke about the price. Call me when it goes down to $1000 I'll consider it.

The opposite could also happen: bitcoin goes to $700 and they RISE the price to $2000.

yeah but the price is so high buying an inhand s-3 on ebay is cheaper.   I have a 10 percent ebay coupon and I get an extra 3 percent on top of that.

I can buy 4 s-3s for 1200 - 13 percent = 1044  and that gives me 2th or 1.9 th .       I have the psu's  it should not e possible to buy s-3s on ebay and beat the price for an

s-4. factory direct from bitmaintech.   While I am a bit boozed up tonight I will post the details of this.

so that is 11 percent and using my ebay cc is 2 percent a total of a 13 percent discount.

this listing offers  1 for 325 or best offer

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIMTMAIN-ANTMINER-S3-440gh-s-BATCH-9-IN-Hand-Ships-Now-/151419551349?pt=US_Virtual_Currency&hash=item23414efe75

I put in an offer of 290 he came back with 320  that is 2th for   1280    then take off my 13% and I am at 1113   with ebay warranties  .. now I have the psu's   but we are talking an in hand  fully covered by ebay warranty shipment for 1113 vs

a week or more wait for a  not covered shipment  for 1450     same th…     and 337 usd more

and the better deal is ebay.

this is a bad offer from   bitmaintech.

the only way I am wrong is the s-4 is under 950 watts.  as 4 s-3's are 1400 watts.   and even if the watts are 900 vs 1400 at 10 cents a watt  you pay 1.20 a day more to run the s-3's .

so   it takes  more then 280 days to make up the difference in pricing.

I want an s-4 most likely I am going to order a few s-3's on ebay and use my coupon.

so four s1 upgrade kits = .92BTC and you can get those s1s for about $80 each, used of course, which are consuming about 1400w and be close to 2Th....right? Am i missing something?

wrong math: 4X0.46BTC=1.84BTC=$780 plus $320 (4X$80) for used S1 equals $1100 just for miners plus $200 for PSU(4X$50), so final is $1300, but only ~1.8Th is guaranteed vs 2th for S4. Upgraded S1 would consume ~1420 W, which would be worse than S4.

So, difference is not big, if any ($1300 for 1.8th vs 1450 for 2Th)

thanks for that, forgot about the MOQ. hell you could skim that psu cost to $20 by going with the server PSUs. I would bet that until BTC price recovers the cost of used S1s will rise.

It's clear that they are trying to discourage hardware ownership for the individual so that they can develop their more profitable cloud mining project. If they raise the price of the hardware they peddle it will push more people to their cloud product. Any way you cut it, its just a money move for them.. They can't be happy with taking a small profit on product development and sales, they want it all. so it is a clear case of greed in my opinion .

At the price they are charging for their cloud mining and then add the fee for "obtaining' the right to farm with them (whatever that fee they call it) , I believe it comes out even worse than if you bought the S4 now.

Has anyone calculated the ROI for their hashnest? When I ran numbers the first day they put it out, it wasn't looking good at all and was hoping the S4 would be the answer. I got my answer
alright!
