@Kano

just a request/suggestion for the pools website - any way we could get the 100% luck expected block time based on the pools current hashrate displayed? Yes I know you can have it calculated on other sites but its a good metric to have on hand and since the hashrate and difficulty are changing fairly significantly right now its not always immediately obvious how many blocks per time period are expected.

Or maybe its already on there somewhere and I just missed it....

Congrats on the pool growth, glad to see kano.is starting to get the hash it deserves.

So, does higher pool hash rate drives better overall revenues? And how?

Well, uh, it's like this.  The higher the hash rate more blocks are found more Bitcoins generated, and more Bitcoins distributed to us miners.

functionally it's a little less Bitcoins per miner, but more often.   so it balances out.

You and Stonebone are, of course, more correct than my quip.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
A: Top-posting.
Q: What is the most annoying thing on usenet and in e-mail?

Same expected reward, less variance.

Edit: oh, yeah, and to avoid missing out the other change ... I get paid more also.

I would hate to see this pool get too big. Sure you get more blocks but payouts are smaller and it all balances out.

I was with GHash when they would solve a block every few minutes (boring). I left them when they got too big.

I was with Slush for a long time when they were less than 5 Ph, but they got too big.

I was with BTC Guild until they started having problems and had to shut down. I was sorry to see them go down.

I wish there was some way the Bitcoin protocol could encourage more small pools by somehow rewarding them for increasing the spread of the network so that we don't end up with a few pools that control all.

Hot time, summer in the city, back of my mine getting hot & gritty!!!

If any pool deserves to get big, it's this one. I don't see an issue.

Well ... when difficulty is changing and the pool hash rate is changing, the 100% number converted to time is usually far from accurate.
That's one of the reasons why the 5Nd -> time calculation on the Help->Payouts page says "roughly" twice.
The numbers really aren't very accurate at all, so on that page I use the 24hr pool hash rate number to try to get it closer to expected, but it only takes a day like the last 24hrs hash rate changing and those "roughly" numbers are no longer very accurate at all.

The top of all pages does say how long since the last pool block, and there's of course also the block % number on the top left.
I guess I'd have to think about which page it would be useful on, but not the page header (since it's too inaccurate)

...
Well I've said before, and I'll say again, if the pool ever got to even 10% I'd stop letting on new miners and make sure it doesn't get bigger.

...
I wish there was some way the Bitcoin protocol could encourage more small pools by somehow rewarding them for increasing the spread of the network so that we don't end up with a few pools that control all.
The difficult issue is finding the right people to start up pools.
It certainly requires a knowledge level that I've not seen in any of the many dubious pools that have tried to start recently ...

Seems some people thinks that a "Point and Click" mining pool is how they should be.
Why not have "Point and Click" banks and "Point and Click" air lines and "Point and Click" car repair shops while we're at it Tongue

However, one of the few reasons I started this pool is coz I was unhappy with all options available.
I don't expect or want everyone to agree with everything I do and I certainly don't go out of my way to appease people who don't agree with me Smiley

The way things are here at the moment is good, getting a bit bigger would be great also, but yeah I've certainly got a clear limit where I think that would be enough also.

Got a ckdb restart coming in again shortly.

As expected for a ckdb restart, no miners will be affected at all.

Web site stats will be unavailable or '?' for about 10 minutes.

This one is rather urgent since I've found an issue where certain data is never freed and thus over time ram usage grows to use up the whole server.
The new size of the pool of course means this is happening faster so this is the first time I've confirmed the problem ... and of course worked out where the problem is and fixed it.

Restart will specifically be in 45minutes when the minute hand hits zero Smiley

Restart took 22 minutes (and completed 6 minutes ago)
Looks like I better add into the todo list: speeding up the restart since the extra time is of course due to the pool growth.

Frankly I feel lucky and honored to have stumbled across the kano ckpool(s) as I'm quite new to this game and spent a lot of time researching where/what/how to get onto btc mining.  ck and kano-san are doing great things for the health and longevity of btc - how do I know? Easy, just go back to page 1 of this thread, as I did, and read it for yourself.  The integrity and fortitude shown by our esteemed sysops is not just words. Their actions speak volumes as to the class these two gentlemen show to us, the pool members, and to the whole concept of btc and the ramifications their actions have.
I have a new s7 on the way, and as I mentioned  in a previous post, to consider pointing my hardware anywhere else but here is unthinkable to me.  I am an old-school computer guy, from the days of pdp's, teletypes, and trash-80's. Once I see the right way to do something, then that's the way to do it. Period.
All hail ck and kano! Showing the rest of the code bozos how it's done!
