I think Eleuthria gets it but most people don't hear it when he says the very same things.
I keep telling Eleuthria (and other pool ops) that what pool operators really get paid for is to explain luck and variance over and over and over and .... ad nauseam.

It would probably save you a lot of time to put a short explanation in a link on the pool web page (maybe under the helpless section)... then you could just link to that each time  Wink

Hi how to join CKPool using Antminer S3+?
Once you have registered an account at https://kano.is , and when you start mining, it will automatically create the worker name you use in cgminer.

So e.g. if you registered a username "BTC-TMXSTAR"
Then in cgminer you could:

./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333 -u BTC-TMXSTAR.worker -p x

Of course you can use almost any workername you like (in place of "worker") to add on after the dot.
If you stick to using only letters and numbers it will certainly be OK.
The x on the end doesn't matter what it is so just leave it as x.

Edit: Oh - web interface ... OK forgot about that on S3 Smiley
In the web interface set the pool to stratum+tcp://stratum.kano.is:3333
and the username to BTC-TMXSTAR.worker

(after you have created your account BTC-TMXSTAR at https://kano.is )

As you wrote it:   BTC-TMXSTAR.worker <== so worker is your workername ;-)
Better use something else for it, because you get mixed up with that. For example wo1 or so...

Yeah we're over 2PH at the moment ... not sure for how long but anyway Smiley
Edit: OK it's quite variable - we'll see where it ends up ... it was 2PH for the past hour but it's now dropping again.

I was just going to ask you what was going on, we were 2.2 ph for awhile there. Antminer was even back for awhile.
Yeah I only woke up shortly before my post - he's rearranging his setup - it may be a little while yet until it's all sorted.

is lightsword dropping in and out?
Seems it was temporary.
... and he's back in again.
Yep up and down and up and down and ... Smiley

why cant they just stay on for a week? be nice for some extra speed to get my 50c of bitcoin!

So, I know that on another pools thread, the empty block submission issue has been discussed. What I am now a bit curios about is the occasional block that really isn't? IE-

Number Of Transactions 1
Output Total 50 BTC
Estimated Transaction Volume 25 BTC
Transaction Fees -25 BTC
Height 334933 (Main Chain)
Timestamp 2014-12-19 10:02:34

So, it looks like Blockchain counts 25BTC and -25BTC as 50BTC? All in one transaction? Its not an Orphan but contains nothing and stays as part of the permanent ledger? These seem to appear more frequently than orphans, usually submit time is long enough for plenty of transactions to have occurred after the previoius block height and are not immediately(Timewise) followed by the next blockheight submittal.

This example happens to be relayed from Discusfish but I have seen plenty others from Most of the existing , established pools.

No this is simply blockchain.info breaking and showing stupid stuff. The transaction fees are zero.

So the pool was awarded and received 25BTC empty block at this height? Sorry, I've spent most of my time up till now learning more about the hardware and operating it. Now I'm trying to get into the nuts and bolts of the rest.

All blocks are awarded (currently) 25BTC
Then on top of that they get any unused BTC in each transaction confirmed in the block - commonly called a transaction fee.
i.e. someone makes a transaction to move 1.234 BTC to another address, but they put 1.2339 BTC in the target address, that imbalance, 0.0001 BTC gets added onto the block reward

... and FYI the block reward halves every 210000 blocks ... which at 10 mins per block is very close to 4 years ... but as with the last year of commonly faster than 10 mins per block, it will probably be a little less than 4 years to the next halving.
The last halving was Nov 2013

Sorry Kano, my question was still in regards to the particular block height referenced above.
Con's answered that Tongue
blockchain.info screws up sometimes.
It gets it wrong.
That block has no transactions, thus the coinbase reward is only 25 BTC.

Heh - was doing a ckdb update ... and while ckdb was down/restarting we found a block Cheesy
Waiting on the confirm Smiley

Edit: confirmed
So in case anyone didn't really follow all my rambling on about now using 5N Smiley
This means that the full new block (~125%) shares will be paid out in this payout
But it stops at 125% due to the limitation imposed by the current markersummaries
Edit - hmm - looks like I made a mistake there in the code ... the limitation should go back one more block i.e. 188%
(according to what I said here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.msg9855962#msg9855962 )
Oh well - I'll fix that before the payout Smiley

Anyone paying close attention to the pool Smiley
Restarted ckdb earlier so when I do the payout later I've fixed the 5N count back limit (restart had no effect on mining of course)
(anyone curious: https://bitbucket.org/ckolivas/ckpool/commits/7470af8c4624c30bae5eb2629250fac5f14d1665 )

Also then did a ckpool restart a few minutes ago that would have only shown up as a reconnect in cgminer - to increase the linux file limits so the large worker counts you probably noticed on the web site (> 22k) had a lot more room (old limit was 64k, new limit is 512k)

334947 payout sent - using the correct payout range - the last 2 blocks (~188%)
This payout range will of course keep increasing until it reaches 500% and from then on will the N will be the last 500% for each block found.
Oh and the payout just confirmed also Smiley

Had the web/ckdb stop working unexpectedly a couple of times tonight.
As usual, that's no affect on mining.
I've disabled the payout address change page temporarily while I try to work out if that's the cause or something else.
I'll post again (tomorrow) when I've enabled it again.
