Looking at where this great project is going, I'm planning to hold for another 1.5 / 2 years and don't want to discover that my FCT are gone when I try to "dig them up".
For a long cold storage it is best to transfer factoids via FactoidPapermill on paper wallet, see information on links:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=850070.msg13501297#msg13501297
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=850070.msg13538069#msg13538069

The website says this about Papermill:"This is early beta software you should use this guide at your own risk, we suggest not to use large amount of factoids in case there may be issues and/or bugs."

Thats not too reassuring for me to store any factoids long term.  The koinify passphrase is not as secure??

Thanks

I have already explained earlier that this program "Papermill" (earlier program was called "freshkeymaker") safest and I use it since November 2015 and has generated more 50 addresses FCT.

Read here - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=850070.msg13538069#msg13538069

Program "Papermill" it is just a program to generate new FCT addresses and secret keys.

This is much safer than trust you FCT to hold third parties (eg koinify), and you just generated address and transfer you FCT to store in the FACTOM BLOCKCHAIN (Factom Explorer (www.explorer.factom.org)) and be sure to make multiple copies such as a USB flash drive and be sure to print out your address and secret keys on paper, to there was a guarantee that in the event of damage to the USB drive, you will have saved a copy on paper.
Believe me it is very reliable.

I recently tried twice to send some FCT from my Factoid Wallet GUI to Poloniex.  I followed the guide exactly and it seems both tx have failed.  In both cases, I received the "Transaction x has been submitted to Factom" message, and both times - nothing.  I don't have a lot of exp using this wallet but I have executed successful txs, however, it doesn't seem to want to cooperate now.  Does including spaces in the Transaction Name cause a problem?  That is literally the only thing I can think of.  Thoughts?  Advice?
Edit:  I just tried another tx with no spaces in the Transaction Name - still nothing.  Ugh...

Dear sir
First l must admit that l m not computer expert at all but followed Factoid Wallet GUI Guide
l have installed  Factomd and walletapp from the link provided by Factom.org and have tried to run Factomd to sync to Blockchain but keep getting,
Error reading config file
System cannot find the file specified
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by an other process
Invalid argument
l would appreciate if you could spare some of your precious time to guide me how to solve this issue to sync and create a Factoid address to move my Factoids as you may aware of that Koinify is shutting down by 15 Feb 2016
Kind Regards

Do not worry about losing factoids due to koinify shutting down.  The 12 words were the only way to move the factoids, with or without koinify.

Koinify closing only will have a small drawback.  Their password reset feature was a good way to check if you had the correct 12 words.  We will lose that as a debugging feature.

We are aware that on windows the log file does complain a bit, but it does not stop you from using factom.

as far as the config file, there is an internal one which uses the defaults.  only when you need to do development or something like that would you need a config file.

1. see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=850070.msg13544457#msg13544457

2. also keep in mind the backup strategy.  humans have much more experience preserving pieces of paper than they do digital media.

Will the master passphrase (which I got from Koinify) be valid "forever" to recover your FCT?

Is it something like a private-key?

Looking at where this great project is going, I'm planning to hold for another 1.5 / 2 years and don't want to discover that my FCT are gone when I try to "dig them up".

There were a few lucky people who had problems with the token sale.  I would recommend running keymaker on the 12 words to make sure your address contains the on-chain balance that you expected.  The koinify wallet did not look at the factom blockchain, so there may have been some disconnect for some people.

also, depending on your paranoia level, you were online when the koinify sale happened.   if you want offline security, papermill can be run offline, and never touch an online computer.  the conterbalance to that is that latent bugs in the software may have bad results, and inaction might be safer.  It depends on what your risk tradeoffs are.

as far as the importing, we do plan to support it for a while, but the mapping between the 12 words to the private keys is publicly documented, so it will always be possible with enough effort.

Can someone pls explain to me what s the total number of Factoids to be available and how are they generated? No PoW, no PoS? Is it is a finite number and no more or what?
Total Factoids: 8753730 (today).
When used Factoids they will be converted to Entry Credits and burned (removed from the system)
After completed the final stage of Milestone3, every month will be added 73000 factoids.
Factoids that does not coin, this token, it is not generated and no mining.
All detailed information can be found in the document "Factom Whitepaper" on the official Factom website- www.factom.org

Now the maximum amount - 8753728.56 FCT (-1.44 FCT for 24h).
So in the last 24 hours it has been spent 1.44 FCT
Amount FCT is not fixed, it can be reduced when someone converts factoids in Entry Credits.
But now to the final stage of Milestone3, amount FCT can not be more than it is now there, amount FCT can only decrease.

What do I use these Entry Credits for? - please read this document "Factom Whitepaper", there all is written.

The market did not react. 30 thousand dollars is a paltry sum.
In order to become a competitor, Radium must first get to the Microsoft Azure, I very much doubt that it will be.
Thus Radium is not a competitor.

There are just some claims what they would like to be and to do, but it's a simple PoS-Coin and not really a competitor of Factom. There won't be any reaction.

The reason Radium is not a competitor is pretty simple: Radium coins let you hash data into the Radium blockchain. Factom lets you hash data into the Bitcoin blockchain. Which one is more secure?

not out yet, when it is then be interesting. cant see it equalling fct cap without a major brand, but levelling with emercoin possible to level with emer coin price would be near 0.005( 500k sats). lets see
