I take it that development is nearly at the stage where this thread can be locked and all communications can be made via the wallet's encrypted communications channels.

If that is the case, I suggest that Proof of Support is enabled and that only those with a balance greater than 10,000 VTR can be included in the devs communications channels on project development / updates.

What exactly is "Proof of Support" here (it usually means running X nodes to support the network)?

Specifically in terms of staying in touch when you guys "lock the thread".

I suppose, saying "Proof of Support" coins101 meant the "proof of share ownership" (10,000 VTR).

Don't think "locking the thread" and switching to private conversation is a good idea. It might be good for investors and for big "whales" who are supposed to join, but is bad for coin, its acceptance, and is not in accordance with open-source, open-discussion approaches, and in general looks strange in crypto world, where "open"-ness and decentralization are the keys.

... this space is not for rent ...

Srysly, after seeing relentless attacks on trackers last year I instantly thought, why not distribute it? ? Truly excited for the potential here. (Whoah bittrex!)

Yes, I am also working on encrypted group chat in our client and devs communications channels would be really good fit for it in the future.

One of the challenges we have now with the torrent implementation is to design a system to identify fake or bad torrent upload.

Our upcoming beta will most likely get Push Notification to mobile devices for VTR transactions and other things including messaging.

I'd be ok to lower the Proof of Support to 1 or 2 BTC equivalent.

Anyone showing proof of support can still see what is being discussed and they can participate.

That is more like it ...but believe it or not personally I'm not interested in dl/seeding any movies, music or porn - there are much serious content that can be shared with others

speaking of torrents... any reason we shouldn't be able to download the blockchain (using the VTR client) in the same manor we would any other file using bitTorrent protocol? To allow super fast syncing? This seems to be a prevalent issue in the cryptosphere. Is the real problem here just not enough nodes? Or is it the manor in which the blockchain is transmitted and pieced back together?

As of Bitcoin Core version 0.10.0 or later, Bitcoin Core now uses ‘headers-first synchronization’. Which on initial sync, block headers will be first download from peer and when the headers have been validate, client will start downloading the blocks in parallel from all available peers which is very similar to how torrent works.

Upgrading core code of vTorrent to 0.10.0 in next major version would be better solution for fast syncing.

Thank you for your suggestion.

Just as to vouch for this developer:

I am an early user of vTorrent and had one of my wallets lock out (password bug which has since been fixed); I provided the dev my password and waited patiently thinking the project had been scrapped.

I got busy with work but after finally being able to sit down and get vTorrent sync'd up I was able to open up my wallet again and find all of my original funds in my wallet.

A big thanks to the dev for fixing this issue.

Its very easy to be blinkered by Bitcoin, but torrents are the biggest use of p2p:

And you can legally download torrent software:

http://download.cnet.com/1770-20_4-0.html?query=torrent&platform=Windows&searchtype=downloads&sort=downloadCount~desc

And this is one of the leading projects working in this new space.

Dev - When you are ready, please think about finding a way to list vTorrent on download.com

Even in Beta form, we could have 1m to 10m users within 12 months.

@coins101

If VTR succeeds it will make torrents invulnerable to takedowns.
But people torrenting will still be tracked down, so it is not the full solution.
You will still need a vpn service.

I guess that is why Mega build encryption into their uploads and therefore downloads.......

so why can't you have VPN & torrent client capabilities built into vTorrent? A one stop shop! Other coins are adding VPN, why not vTorrent!

I agree that rights holders are about to get much more vigorous prosecuting jo & jane citizen to create a deterrent effect, and when that happens people aren't going to feel good about paying for stuff they've been getting for free, especially under 30's who'll freak out if they were suddenly charged  $30 for a CD, which is what I used to pay regularly in my younger days.

Whoever offers a user friendly one-stop-shop that offers anon torrent downloading will seriously clean up. Might as well be vTorrent!

edit: as an aside, IMO the only viable route for rights holders is to buy out ISP's on a global scale, then 'tax' everyone via their broadband charges. Like a VAT or GST charged on every MB downloaded, so digital content is given away free, but everyone pays a little bit for genuine distribution to copyright holders. Can anyone seriously be downloading 100 GB a month without downloading a lot of movies, music etc?

Hello all,

Unfortunately, ancientOne1 is right about this issue, I don't have any plan to prevent problem with ISP tracking down users downloading or uploading illegal content with torrent at this point, but when we have torrent implemented in our client, torrents should be invulnerable to takedowns.

Keep in mind that any feature can be implement in the future, there will likely be many more functions add to our client to improve functionalities and not limited to torrents.

My ultimate goal is to bring in and introduce new people to crypto-currency with our project and our currency.

Regards,

vTorrent

This. +100. Smart dev with us.

*We will need some kind of rating system for the community to filter out bad torrents.

*SEEDERS WILL NEED GOOD INCENTIVES TO KEEP TORRENTS HEALTHY

* We will need a way to moderate the torrents somehow so it doesn't get filled up with viruses and spam. I think the only way to do this would be a rating system? Also I am a member of some very large private torrent groups that have been around for years. IPTORRENTS.COM ... etc I can put word out there and get these guys over here. They will have many great ideas and a lot of good content to bring on board. Iptorrents.com is an amazing site btw. All about speed and rewarding its seeders to encourage a healthy community.
